G’day from Australia mate. I am transitioning from star drag to lever drag system. I have a shimano TLD25 reel on a 5’10” solid fibreglass rod. (Rod maker unknown, possibly custom which I bought second hand). I have this rig loaded with 22lb mono line. I found your instructional video to be quite informative as I did not have a clue as to what setting for the preset nor that it should not be adjusted while in strike position on the lever drag. I am testing the strike/drag setting before I go out to field test. Cheers again mate... Tight lines folks! :) Uluru!
Whoa. None of the three tackle shops I go to and none of the TH-cam fishing gurus ever mentioned anything about this 😳 Thanks for the tips. Will find that spring scale and calibrate the lever drag on my SLX-30ii.
Very nice video sir but I'm just a little bit confused about the drag numbers...For example,if the max drag of my reels for strike is 15 lbs. then my main line is braided 80 lbs. test,so 25%=20 Which numbers should I used for setting the drag 15 or 20? Thank you!
I sent this question along to our product department. Here is the response that they sent: If the reel has a max drag of 15lbs @ strike, fishing it at a maxed out drag or exceeding the max drag can cause the reel to lose freespool and minimize casting distance as well. Also once you exceed the maximum drag ratings you start putting side load on the ball bearings which will eventually lead to a loos in performance and bearing damage.
Your line is too strong for that reel size. Do the math for your strike drag # (÷ by .25 - .30). That will give you the appropriate strength line for your reel.
Wished I watched your video before attempting to set the drag on my first lever drag reel. I tightened the drag preset knob on full and its now jammed. :(
I have a sealine tournament Diawa 50w and I'm having problems with the drag moving loose on it's own. White I'm trolling the drag loosens and line start coming out of the reel. Do you know what's the problem?
Then you’re using line that’s inappropriately heavy for that particular reel. Either the reel is too light for your application, or the line is too heavy.
Straightforward, accurate information. Take note TH-cam creators. Thank you.
Congratulations to all the guys at Okuma, you did a great job!

I set my reels to 30% of line test with line going through my rod guides

LMAO
Thank you so much for this sir
Where can I find top drag specs for the old Okuma Titus 50w silvers?
awesome, thanks for the education!
Excellent info!
why when i tighten the knob. the jig wont fall on free spool but once i loosen the tension on the knob, then it work fine.

You may want to check with Daiwa. Completely different company.
You are the best thank you!
What if I am using a line which's 30% of the breaking strength is greater than the maximum drag of the reel?
Then you’re using line that’s inappropriately heavy for that particular reel. Either the reel is too light for your application, or the line is too heavy.
simple but I have no idea. I run my drag when I fought with the fish and the drag failed.
I'm very disappointed in your product and will make fun of anyone I see using one ! My'n didn't last it first trip
Sorry to hear that Roger. Did you reach out to our service team?
