You may have missed out on a few maintenance/ addressable issues on these cars. 1 - If you launch these they will eventually snap the rear axles. 2 - The diff mounts love to break on these cars destroying the diff and the driveshaft. 3 - Valve stem seals usually go bad if you are in a climate that shifts dramatically across the year. 4 - Clutch packs will slip eventually on any tuned car ( literally the same clutch packs as the E92 m3 though the e92 produces half the amount of torque). Lastly 5 - Intercooler housing splitting. Again this is usually happens from heat cycling with massive weather shifts throughout years.
I had a 2018 BMW X6 M with that same engine and fuel economy was appalling and I was coming from a 5.0 2017 mustang gt, honestly it is shocking to see, be careful people!!
Agreed, just replace the rod bearings every 50k miles - they are simply consumable items on any M car. With regards to failing injectors - there's more noise about it than real failures - but again, those can be replaced and one BOSCH injector for pre-LCI M5/M6 is about 100$... so 800$ + labor. If you can't spend that for preventative maintenance, then don't buy an M car in the first place
You can literally get a set of better rod bearings and never have to touch them again. They're not consumable. King, BE, and VAC all offer bearings that fix the bearing issue.
@@f32_boost52 that's nice to hear and I'm not arguing, but if we're talking S63, have not heard about anyone who would have used after market and drove 60k+ miles on them to be able to check the condition. I frankly would check even the after market ones, after that mileage
@alfworks if you look at Carbahn's built motors for S63, they use a coated motorsport bearing. They are made for repeated abuse. As are the other bearings I mentioned. The B58 came from thr factory with coated bearings and have already shown that they are extremely reliable. BMWs history with rod bearing issues came down to clearance, too thick of oil and bad bearing design. All new gen motors finally got it right.
With BMW M motors and their tight tolerances, you MUST follow procedure to warm the oil before driving hard - period. I drive my E92 M3 I bought new like a grandma never going above 3K rpm until the oil is up to temp. I’ve been using Steve Dinan’s CarBahn shop for service and mods forever, and he told me years ago that if you follow that procedure plus regular oil changes using the correct oil you’ll get at least 80K miles out of OEM rod bearings, and my Blackstone numbers when tested are always perfect. It’s also the same for my 991.2 GT3 - always fully warm these type of cars before matting the pedal.
@993mike warming up any car is imperative in my opinion but still, the OEM bearings shit the bed at 80k miles. Pretty terrible lol. Aftermarket bearings are the way to go.
Purchased my ‘14 coupe in 2018 with 39k miles and used it on weekends ended up spinning a bearing last year at 55k miles. Thankfully extended warranty paid up after some back and forth with a refurbished engine at the BMW dealer. Still holding onto it, the most good looking modern BMW in my opinion

I have one of these a stage 2 tune won’t get you that much power.. 680 is the the most you go without having to jump on e85 n also the clutches can’t handle more than 700 wheel
These M6s and other S63 engines have a much bigger problem than rod bearings alone. After 60k miles they need a lot of maintenance done especially if you’re planning to tune it just so you don’t blow it up. My e92 m3 on the other hand is solid and really the only V8 BMW that’s the most reliable.
hey man, great video. had one like this recently. Definitely recommend michellen pilot sport 4s' all the way around of at least the rear 2 wheels. helped a lot with traction. was wheel spinning in 1st to 3rd gear. those tires really really help.
I’m currently on 305/30/20 Pilot Sport 4S’s for the rear, unfortunately still have loads of traction issues below 4th gear but, to be fair, it grips fairly well once you get some heat into them
@@EthanYorke damn so you’re running pretty wide too. Yeah definitely agree used to have to get rears up to 30c for decent traction which is very hard in the UK. You must have some crazy torque figures to be spinning that much with PS4s wow
bro paying 45k for a 2015 m6 with 70k miles is a robbery. Bro got flat out scammed 😂 I bought a 2017 m6 competition with every single factory option, carbon ceramics, night vision, carbon fiber diffuser, spoiler, extended leather, etc. Cost me 52k with 21k miles on it. I did shop for 8 months though lol
To each their own, the colorway of the car was a massive factor in the price of my specific car. I’d guess there are maybe 20 other M6’s in North America with the Tanz Blue/Amaro Brown Combo, some people place value in that and some don’t. There were plenty of options available around that price point, I just didn’t want them.
Honestly, it’s a great looking car. But at 8+ years old it just ain’t it for me. I get it was worth 140k at one point, but paying 45k for a decade old bmw just doesn’t seem right. You can get a 2022 m340i right now for about the same price, with better performance and a warranty. The m340i is half a second faster 0-60 as well. 3.8 vs 4.3. So I just struggle with this car being a good option with so many alternatives. The m6 may be more luxurious than the m340i, but we’re talking about decade old luxury. Just ain’t the same
Few things I’d like to counter here: You definitely cannot get an M340i for around the same price, my car was on the high side of pricing for M6’s of this age and the cheapest 22 M340i’s around are pushing $50,000 with low, undesirable option sheets. You’re also comparing a pre LCI car (G20) to a LCI car (F06). The 22 340 already looks extremely dated compared to the LCI 23+ models, the F06 has a timeless interior without any gimmicks to make it show its age. Also, there are a million cars with the 340i recipe. TLX Type S, C43 AMG, whatever Audi makes, Supra, etc. I’m not trying to put those cars down, but there is VERY little that compares to the M6. Certainly not Acuras and Toyotas. Most people buying an M6 know exactly what they want, I’d imagine. If an M6 doesn’t make sense to you, it’s not the car for you. But if you want something with Bentley-esque levels of luxury that still kicks the ass out like a proper M car, the M5 or the M6 is really your only option. I didn’t really care what the cost was, I was going to buy one at some point in my life regardless.
@@EthanYorke Nah, theres actually nothing out there that compares to the m340i in terms of performance for the money. Look at all the reviews, they are raving about the 340. Most of the reviews Ive read about the 2015 M6 are...uninspiring to say the least. I cant even believe you tried to compare a TLX to a M340i....a TLX is a front wheel drive car and has much less HP/torque. The only 340s that are 50k+ plus are the brand new ones and the ones that are all wheel drive (x drive), which is actually the less desirable option if youre into a real sports sedan which are rear wheel drive. The other cars you mentioned, C43 is 60k plus, so no thats not a comparison. Although the performance is similar between a c43 and m340i the price range is about 10-15k more for the c43. Supra is also not even comparable, its not a luxury sports sedan, its just a compact sports car. The Audi comparison to the M340i is the rs3 and that car is 65k but doesnt perform as well. I just find it hilarious that you compare the m340i to Acuras and Toyotas. We get it, you like your M6, but theres a reason its selling for 30k after being 100k+. You well overpaid. Im looking at a 2015 M6 with 76k miles right now for 32k lmao. I can send you the link if you want? its selling in West Palm beach right now. You can call the dealer at 561-867-2090 if you want to inquire about it. To me it seems like you well overpaid, even if you dont live in Florida you can get this car shipped out to you for less than 1k. M6 doesnt have the looks, performance, OR reliability. You can lie to yourself but you cant lie to me pal.
@@EthanYorke I can also provide you the number of a dealer thats selling a 2022 M340i with pretty much all the upgrades. 33k Miles with an price of $45,899. Selling, RIGHT NOW. So you're wrong again bud. You shoulda kept that M3 cuz the m6 is wack.
@@EthanYorke I agree its not comparable, unless the m6 is 9 years old. If it were 2014 id say the M6 is a great car to purchase. I hope you enjoy it for many miles
@@shanefowler9443 I think the V10’s are sick, I’d love to own one some day. But it wouldn’t be a car I’d own in a collection of “only” 3-4 cars, maybe in a collection of 12-15. Lots of other cars I’d rather have imo
I don't know much about engines, but I'd get the B58. It's not only reliable, but has massive tuning potential. You could tune it to be as powerful as the stock M6 in this video and it will be more reliable. It's considered one of the most reliable modern BMW engines, but the owners at least. It's the same engine used in one of Toyotas Supras. I think the Mark 5. I'd for for the newer Gen in the B58TU or B58TU2. I believe those versions are in your 2019 and later 340i's, 440i's and SUV's. It's a great engine.
I would never, ever buy a car that had downpipes changed. It's mostly a symbolic mod, but you KNOW that car has been wrung out to within an inch of it's life, repeatedly, the entire time that owner had it. Which, whatever, it was their car, but no way I'm buying that.
From my understanding, the injectors are an early car (2013,2014) issue so getting anything newer than that would help you avoid that. As far as rod bearings, it’s an extra $35 to have your oil tested after each oil change. If you keep an eye on the oil test results and treat the car properly, I don’t think you’d need to replace the rod bearings for quite some time. I’m about to send out my oil for the second time, will make an update video with the results
Lease dont own if you intend to beat it and ride it hard... Much like if you like a new model every few years and enjoying the ride, dont marry. 😅. Cost you a ton of cash in the long run owning rather then leasing.. and you get a bigger smile and a flex with a newer model on your arm.
You’re way off the mark here. Do you understand that leasing a $140,000 car comes with a payment anywhere from $1,500 to over $2,000 a month? Not to mention needing to put down 5 figures to qualify. With an $800 payment on this car, I’d have to spend $14,000 a year on service to equal out to what a lease on the newer equivalent model would be. If you think this car costs anywhere near $14,000 a year to keep running, you’ve been severely misguided.
Sorry to be that guy, but thinking about whether or not you can afford a car by what monthly payment it is a terrible idea. trying to maximize putting nothing down you’re just getting r*ped with interest charges. You should always be looking about 20 to 30% down.
Seller did not mention an upgraded clutch and it feels just like my F80 used to, so my guess is no. Trying to set up a dyno day soon, have just been really busy
It’s not 780whp 😂, maybe 600whp at best on 91 , his timing will be low on 91 , I had stage 3 DME tune with 93octane 23lbs of boost , made from 650-670 whp , 4th gear was slipping on a pull . Now I have fully built engine , PG intakes and charge coolers , Fabworx dps , Akara exhaust, XHP stage 3 trans tune with SSP spec R clutches, stage 1 pure turbos , Methanol injection , JB4 for logging ,Meth control & 3 map changes , to 28psi , makes 860whp on Mustang dyno , I can go higher in boost but the intakes can split at 32-35psi so I keep it safe , you have to pull the engine to change the intakes , ask me how I know 😂
I haven’t driven a G80 yet, but I’d imagine it feels bigger than an F80 but still smaller than the M6. G80 probably gives you a lot more confidence on a mountain road but doesn’t have the brilliant freeway composure and feel the M6 does. I’d guess G80 feels faster to 60, M6 would feel faster past that
Purchased from a small dealership in Hayward, California who purchased it from an auction in Florida. Looks like it spent most of its life in the Midwest, then down to Florida for about a year, then to me in California

Previous owner installed paddle shift extensions, the + paddle fell off but the - paddle was held on by an extremely small Allen key I didn’t have a tool for. Just got it taken off a few days ago, feels much better imo
Have not had them changed yet, but have been “rough quoted” $2,500 - $3,000. There is a possibility the engine in my car is near brand new, I’m going to keep getting the oil tested and will change the RB’s once the metal content becomes a concern

@@EthanYorke Sadly no. Being a car enthusiast in Greece could very well be a capital offense. Anything above 1800cc is extremely expensive regardless of age or country of origin. Imagine that I'm paying €1.000 in traffic fees every year because I own a 3 liter Z4 from 2006...
all older v8 BMWs are super unreliable they can't build a good one to save they life back then the ones now in the which i believe is the s63 is really good but took them so long to actually build a good v8 engine. AMG has the best v8's on the market you never really hear bad things about it. Audi idk but i know its good now.

I'm having to daily my truck that gets 12 atm. When you get down that low, it really makes you think about where you go. And you aren't going to drive it slow because why would you?
It doesn't seem much different than 15, but each mpg is a multiplier of your tank
Still one of the beat looking bmws

I have one of these a stage 2 tune won’t get you that much power.. 680 is the the most you go without having to jump on e85 n also the clutches can’t handle more than 700 wheel
680 for a 4400lb car isnt enough for you?
May be setting up a dyno day soon to confirm. All I know is that it’s fast enough, lol
@@EthanYorkeplease do!
Man missed owning an ///M , my neighbor has an f10 m5 and a 640i gran coupe ,I’m always admiring those cars meanwhile I have my f13 coupe 640i lol
Damn Ethan! Didnt know you were making videos. Subbed
I appreciate you Nick! I hope all is well :)
At least in europe 6 series BMW are way rarer than 4. So u actually see more M4 than any even regular 6ers not mentioning the amount of regular 4s
In the tri state area (nj,ny,ct) I see a M4 or M3 everyday I see a good amount of M5s and 8 series but it's so rare I see an M6.
hey man, great video. had one like this recently.
Good video dude! Wishing you many more subs!
Thank you, I appreciate it!!
Nice one, straight to the point and honest!
Thank you!
There’s no way this car is making 780whp on 91 octane without upgraded turbos…
I’m gonna wait patiently on an m8
No where near 780 wheel on 91 octane. I have LCI f10 m5. Tanzanite on amaro is beautiful
bro paying 45k for a 2015 m6 with 70k miles is a robbery. Bro got flat out scammed 😂
I bought a 2017 m6 competition with every single factory option, carbon ceramics, night vision, carbon fiber diffuser, spoiler, extended leather, etc.
@@EthanYorkelet him know 🤣👍
Good video.. looking at one as we speak 😊
Good luck!!!
@@fr00bers you can argue as much as you want, a 340i is not a comparable car to an M6. Have a nice day
@@EthanYorke I agree its not comparable, unless the m6 is 9 years old. If it were 2014 id say the M6 is a great car to purchase. I hope you enjoy it for many miles
Friggin' amazing cars
bro, if it aint that v10 M6 then why should i care? nothing was more iconic about an M6 than the E63 gen with that S85 NA 5.0L v10 engine
You cared enough to watch and comment, dingus
@EthanYorke idk what Brent is talking about. The v10 is great but the transmission is trash. Dct in a v8 twin turbo is definitely legit.
@@shanefowler9443 I think the V10’s are sick, I’d love to own one some day. But it wouldn’t be a car I’d own in a collection of “only” 3-4 cars, maybe in a collection of 12-15. Lots of other cars I’d rather have imo
@EthanYorke well said brother. I have the f13 M6 and a shelby gt350 so far in my collection. Going for 5. Not sure what I'll get next
Amazing vid your 6 is beautiful and there is another dude on TH-cam RNR motorsports that do 6 series vids
Much appreciated, thank you!
Good Video , nice car!
Weird how every m car needs rod bearings along with hot v issues but the price goes up.
This is addressed in my latest video. Ultimately, aftermarket rod bearings fix the issue for relatively low cost compared to what the cars cost used
Good review..
Definitely not 780whp 😂 rod would have gone bye bye by now
Probably crank hp, they make around that at stage 2
@@MrAleB305 yea definitely pushing almost 800 crank prob high 600 to low 700 whp
Such a sweet car.
Thank you Ray!
I’m getting one for $16k in two weeks can’t wait.
BMW cars seem over rated in reliability department 😬 I am interested in a B58 but I’m nervous about it.
I want one but I don’t want the engine to blow up on me, ain’t no way I’m gonna pay to get the rod bearings replaced and injectors every 50k miles lol
Never met an owner that actually had to do that
From my understanding, the injectors are an early car (2013,2014) issue so getting anything newer than that would help you avoid that. As far as rod bearings, it’s an extra $35 to have your oil tested after each oil change. If you keep an eye on the oil test results and treat the car properly, I don’t think you’d need to replace the rod bearings for quite some time. I’m about to send out my oil for the second time, will make an update video with the results
You seriously not telling us the quote to replace the rod bearings
i have an F10 M5 in the exact same color!
I know what dealer ship this came from I was going to buy it
With my negative balance bank account I’m sure the bank will approve an m6 loan it being the easiest car to buy in 2023
easiest car to buy....then says took him 6 months to negoiate..............
Nice spec besides the wheels
Agreed, really want a set of OEM Version 601’s
Sorry to be that guy, but thinking about whether or not you can afford a car by what monthly payment it is a terrible idea. trying to maximize putting nothing down you’re just getting r*ped with interest charges. You should always be looking about 20 to 30% down.
That mpg is due to the tune.
780whp? Is this on a stock clutch? Or did you upgrade the clutch?
Seller did not mention an upgraded clutch and it feels just like my F80 used to, so my guess is no. Trying to set up a dyno day soon, have just been really busy
It’s not 780whp 😂, maybe 600whp at best on 91 , his timing will be low on 91 ,
I had stage 3 DME tune with 93octane 23lbs of boost , made from 650-670 whp , 4th gear was slipping on a pull .
Now I have fully built engine , PG intakes and charge coolers , Fabworx dps , Akara exhaust, XHP stage 3 trans tune with SSP spec R clutches, stage 1 pure turbos , Methanol injection , JB4 for logging ,Meth control & 3 map changes , to 28psi , makes 860whp on Mustang dyno , I can go higher in boost but the intakes can split at 32-35psi so I keep it safe , you have to pull the engine to
change the intakes , ask me how I know 😂
Where do you think the g80 m3 is in comparison to this and the g80?
I haven’t driven a G80 yet, but I’d imagine it feels bigger than an F80 but still smaller than the M6. G80 probably gives you a lot more confidence on a mountain road but doesn’t have the brilliant freeway composure and feel the M6 does. I’d guess G80 feels faster to 60, M6 would feel faster past that
G80s cost $70k for cheapest ones versus you can easily get an m6 for 35k
Yeah plus g80 on downpipes and e30 is already like 640whp+ at around 37-3800lbs depending on drivetrain
5:32 y dont they just fill oil when its low
What about a newer 840i even with higher mileage the b58 is a good engine
You’d definitely have lower ownership costs with an 840i, and the B58 is a beast of an engine!
I replaced a peer steering rack for $5k within 45k miles
got an 18' m550i loaded 23k miles extended warranty. $46k
duuuude where did u managed to find this one ????????
Purchased from a small dealership in Hayward, California who purchased it from an auction in Florida. Looks like it spent most of its life in the Midwest, then down to Florida for about a year, then to me in California

rod bearings. valvetronic actuators. water pumps. coolant lines. oil lines. all these parts will go bad on the s63 regardless of the maintenance you do and the generation of the s63. truly one of the worst engines made by bmw along with the n63 and the n57. the s55 b58 s58 however are marvels
and if you use launch control add clutch, flywheel, diff and rear axles to the list
The rod bearings are nowhere near as bad as the V10 M5s and M6
wats with the - paddle shifter
Previous owner installed paddle shift extensions, the + paddle fell off but the - paddle was held on by an extremely small Allen key I didn’t have a tool for. Just got it taken off a few days ago, feels much better imo
How much did you pay to change your rod bearings?
Have not had them changed yet, but have been “rough quoted” $2,500 - $3,000. There is a possibility the engine in my car is near brand new, I’m going to keep getting the oil tested and will change the RB’s once the metal content becomes a concern
oooohh buddy... pay the 2.5k to replace them instead of being out 45k on a car, ur trolling if u dont@@EthanYorke

Meanwhile, a bare bones stock M6 with a lot more mileage easily costs double the amount in my shitty banana republic...
I’ve always been curious, does this balance out in anyway? Like are European and American cars more expensive but cars that are expensive in the US are cheap in Banana Republic?
Ye, the old V8s seem to be one of the worst things ever built in human history.
This m6 and F10 M5 had the S63, but the ones today are S63TU(Technical Update), which is found in the M8 and F90 M5.
The modern ones are good, but the old ones... 😬

I was watching your video and had respect for you until i saw that you bagged out your f80 🤮
Believe it or not, the bags actually performed surprisingly well. Much better than I had anticipated, the handling characteristics at MY limit were basically the same as stock.
My taste has changed quite a bit over the years, don’t think I’ll be adding airbags to anything unless I can get my hands on an older 7 series
