    Hi Vince, your wonderful piece of information for the day is up coming! You stated during the video that you were unaware what one of your Scale 75 paints name means! The paint in question is the Scalecolor SC-02 Nacar. This is the Spanish spelling for Nacre which is the technical name for Mother of Pearl!
    There you go Vince , you can rest easy tonight and get a much better sleep! Haha.
    Thanks for another fantastic, insightful video.

    This made me go and order these shades. From my understanding, I could use the glaze to make my own glazes, but damn that was painless and easy! Worth the price for the ease of use. I like your attention to detail. I took painting for years and like that you understand how to build layers and what not. Your tutorials are great. I really appreciate it.

    Vince, I love your videos and this one is another perfect example of the process needed to reach the higher levels of eye candy. I do have a huge gripe with what you are doing though and I have no hesitation in saying it's criminal that you are holding that piece in your hands.touching and handling makes me cringe to see this , especially with such a time consuming piece. Thank you so much for another fine video.

    • @VinceVenturella

      In general, I do try to ever avoid touching the pieces, this one just proved very challenging to manipulate with a holder (though I would certainly have one now as well as a glove on that hand).

      +Vince Venturella My Krypyonite seems to be tusks and horns. Any chance you have a tutorial coming up in the future for that?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +subversive1219 I am happy to add it to the list. In short, use the same tactics I describe here, just work the low tones down near the base of the horn, and extend it out to almost pure white near the tip. Then just plenty of glazing back and forth. Always dark at the base, white at the tip, I have a real thing about that.
      Probably the real hiccup is that you can also do striations, in that case, it's the same tactics, just brush control to drag the darker colors in lines towards the base and then glazes to smooth the edges of the striations.

    Really cool video! Especially useful for those of us that follow Nagash :P I was curious if you use zenithal for your bones as well? Do you think you'd do a video on non-traditional bone? Cold bones, or a skeleton that looks like magic is seeping through the joints? Just a thought! Thanks as always for the dizzying amount of great content.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, I still zenithal bones, though sometimes I do paint over them completely as the project continues and reset them to neutral ivory. A video on cold bone is a great idea, I do it all the time, you can basically make bone any color int he middle, as long as the base or tip is dark, there is some striation and it travels to the opposite.

  • @thomasdebone
    @thomasdebone 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great vid as always! Say, what's the best bone-coloured paint you've tried? What colour do you undercoat bones with?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I don't have one color, I actually vary it quite a bit to match the tone of what I am doing. So if I want a traditional bone, I like Vallejo Randome Tan or Vallejo Aged White. FOr cold bone, I like Vallejo White Grey. Other colors I like are White Sands from Scale 75, Vallejo Duck Egg Green, Vallejo Light Brown amongst others.

    This is great and awesome work! Quick question....
    I don’t have a “Bone” colored paint to begin with. What colors mix to make a base Bone color? (I do have Ivory). Ivory seems to yellow however.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ivory should be fine. Bone can be lots of different colors. We will still read it as bone, especially with this shading.

    Vince, in doing a unit of deathwing terminators that have bone colored armor. Would this work the same for them or would there be any different steps to take with armor?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say the same steps would be appropriate if you were looking for traditional warm colored bone.

  • @hobbithubby5076

    Really silly question, but what do you mean by “Smoothing out the blends?” Does that mean glazing over the color transitions from shadow to highlight?

  • @acrylicchemist1432
    @acrylicchemist1432 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Vince,
    If you were to paint bone on a model with grey-white flesh, what would you change from this video? Concerned that the bones will blend into the flesh (this is for mad max style bloodbound models, particularly khorgoraths. (war boy reavers, etc.))

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would add a slightly stronger dark red shade to the bone. So where I add the orange, add a dark red glaze (it needs to be quite dark or it will appear pink - think Hull Red). The bone becomes your opportunity to bring color into the model.

    Hi Vince! Hopefully you'll read this. Looking at doing an army of the ossiarch bonereapers, and this recipe looks really neat. Can imagine it would look fantastic on the larger models especially. Is this recipe near enough, similar to what you would use now? Are there particular colours you would use instead now, and/or a contrast paint as a glaze also? Once again, awesome job though and cant wait to try and replicate!

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, this is pretty much what I would do now for this type of bone. You could certainly insert some contrast paints like Aggraros Dunes for the browns.

    I am working on a 1/3rd scale skull. Does this work on large stuff? Would stippling be a viable addition?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it certainly works, but you are right, with something of that scale, you want more detail, stippling and some of the cracks showing in the skull we all have (they have a name, but I don't know what they are called, but where your skull sealed when you were a baby).

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could certainly paint it the same, you see it both ways in art, I would say it's your choice to make. It could always be ornamentation and metal or it could be a real skull. In the end, I awlays say it's your figure and your art.

  • @bartek_ewertowski

    Hey Vince, just wondering what your favourite base colour for bone is?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally any kind of off-white/ivory. I vary colors depending on the bone I am creating, you can use almost any color as the interference color (Red, Brown, Blue, Purple, Green - anything), as long as the transition goes from very dark to white tips and/or striations, it will seem like bones.

    • @bartek_ewertowski
      @bartek_ewertowski 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! So you generally mix your own bone colour for the base instead of using one straight from the bottle?

    • @bartek_ewertowski
      @bartek_ewertowski 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VinceVenturella Also, when you initially shaded your bone with Seraphim Sepia before the start of the video, did you wash it all over, or just place the shade in the recesses? I'm trying to follow the process so I put down Mojave White as my base, and then washed with Seraphim Sepia, but it tinted the base colour orangey-brown much more than how your bone looks at the start of the tutorial.

    When you're glazing you said you're using a few drops of paint,thinner,water and false medium. Why not use just glaze medium and paint? If it's to thin the glaze why both thinner and water? What purpose is the water providing?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well two reasons. Water is going to thin more aggressively than medium and will weaken the paint overall more than thinner. It also makes it easier to flow as water has a higher viscosity than medium. That being said, if you push it too far with water, you will get the paint breaking down, even with highly pigmented paint, and can get a fuzzy effect. The medium helps to counteract that as that retains the paint's basic properties.
      The second reason is just cost and efficiency. I keep some drops of medium on my palette when I am working, but that is an additive. It would be more difficult and costly to do all my thinning with medium water is easier to bring the palette, and cheaper and works just as well for the majority of the thinning work. Hope that helps.

      @artyfreeman7916 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vince Venturella absolutely! Thank you for the thorough explanation. I've been using deionised water with thinner just because I heard it some place but I wasn't sure myself why I was doing it beyond that! Now I know!
