- Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate Part 7 - my first attempt at the hardest game mode. I can't believe I actually got a run past floor 4 this soon. Will it be strong enough to beat the onslaught of difficulty in King Mode?

Can't believe it even got past the queen, I was dreading it'd have to be as much of grind as very hard!
Can’t wait to see what’s next for this game!
Wonder if Hikaru or Levy would like this game
play fortnite
League of legends when?
Two things; 1 There is a True ending to the game; 2 love your content, it’s always so good
“When’s the last time you saw a queen move more than three spaces?”
Proceeds to lose because of a Queen moving more than three spaces
This would probably be quite fun multi-player, with when/how the white pieces move having a player control them wouldn't require any reworking of the mechanics
The devs replied in a Steam update thread that they don't have any plans for multiplayer as it would apparently require a massive rework/balancing, so unfortunately not soon.
A big part of the game is White pieces play with no cooperation between pieces, hence why you can bait rooks and queens into the same line like Aliensrock did. With a player controlling the white pieces, and the ability to move pieces simultaneously, checkmates would be trivial to execute
There is a multi-player game very similar to this one. It is called "chess". You should try it.
@@tim8679 yeah, but both players can only use the white king's move set
@@baconeko then they should enable modding or something like that so others will do it
at 17:16 the queen was still poisoned and so there was no risk of discovered check. Just proves that you gotta play perfectly on this ruthless difficulty.
Aye I noticed that too
And at the end of he doesn’t kill that pawn the rook doesn’t move and he doesn’t lose. It seems really tough
even if this were not the case: the extra turn from killing the knight would have been sufficient, courteous joust is incredible
@@googliechewtoy2878 any piece can kill the king even if its not its turn
Yeah, he took poision but only noticed the +2 knights, he may be good at chess but still not enough at ww1 american trench chess
2:35 You can actually hold down the shift key to enter "unsafe mode" and make it so the folly shields aren't used.
But wouldn’t he just die then?
@@christophermoore6110 In most situations, yes, but in this situations, it's guarantied he kills the king, so the Folly Shields are just wasting time
oh yeah that's what i want
it's kind of useless because it only takes 1 second to use up all your shields
@@Jordan.... It's quality of life. When you make "risky" plays often, clicking several times and waiting for the animations to play out is annoying. You don't need to use it, but it's nice for those that want it.
On the last floor, The queen was still poisoned, you had a few more turns that she was limited to 1 move speed. You could have made the shot and moved in, without her getting you.
Glad someone else saw this!
It's at 17:17 for anyone curious, and yes you are correct, he could've just fired away on that turn. If that saves him however, I don't know
Even if the queen wasn't poisoned he could have still made the shot because he would have gotten extra turn from the knight
I don't think that's how that works. Even if the piece isn't moving, the king still dies if it is in check.
Nvm lol I misunderstood what subtle poison does
Everybody talking about the poisoned Queen not being able to kill him, but nobody noticed at 16:53 when he said "no discovered checks" with that bishop totally able to target him if he happened to kill that pawn.
A discovered check is when a piece is moved (or, in this game, killed) in a way that instantly indirectly puts the King in check. An example of this is a Black Pawn moving out of the way of a Black Rook allowing it to see and target the White King, forcing them to move on their turn.
Here, that Bishop would've had to take another move to put the King in check, so that is NOT a discovered check.
@@paradoxbees3280 oh, I didn't see that third one, my bad
i wonder if there could be a mod or new mode where you play as the white pieces, i feel as though that’d be cool
Anyone remotely familiar with chess would win 100% of the time as white unfortunately.
@@tbpotn Assuming you follow the same rules as the game (you only make a decision when a piece is shaking), what would your foolproof strategy be?
@@Patashu push a double rook on the corners on the guy and put the queen in a guaranteed checkmate area, though since they move when shaking. Just more hoping and carefully moving.
@@darkness4839 What if i’m that mode the black king has 4 soul slots that corresponds to knight, bishop, rook and queen respectively?
@@10503. then, I’m getting shotgunned instantly.
And the queen moved 4 spaces in the end answering the question "when was the last time you saw the queen more than 3 squares?"
Leave at least one bishop alive when clearing floor 12 with the red book and theocracy for a special event.
I would love to see him try this.
I think you only need the red book and 1 bishop alive
yes this. 1 bishop and theocracy
Hopefully this game does not end any time soon as it’s very refreshing and a new take one chess that’s easy to keep up with
17:13 - when you have Subtle Poison, game treats queens like kings till turn 15, so you would not be in check
14:50
If the AI knew what to do, they could've gotten you into checkmate with just that Rook and Queen.
I was thinking that. A truly smart AI would be a really tough challenge.
17:20
Subtle poison is chosen and then immediately forgotten about!
I think at 17:16 you could taken that shot because of the previous card you took, which made it so the queen could only move one space in the first 15 turns, might have saved the run lol
17:20 the queen couldn't have got you, it wasn't round 15 it could only move 1 space.
It’s like he knows when I get ready for bed and open up TH-cam
15:06 if that queen went B2 you would have died regardless of ammo, if you move you're in check by one of the two pieces and you can't kill both in one turn. Only chance would be to strafe jump the queen and hope you kill, but since you didn't have strafe jump that isn't an option
In other words, you got hella lucky. Now why doesn't the AI let me catch these kinds of breaks?
"when does the queen move more than 3 spaces anyway?"
-guy who got killed by a queen 4 spaces away.
And to think, the unintentional reqs for the secret fight. Still a beautiful run.
I was thinking that too
No he needed theocracy too
Well, yes.. I said unintentional because he wasn't trying to get it. He just happened to get some of the reqs without realizing what they were for.
I cant believe at 17:15 you didnt see that you get extra turns for killing a knight so the queen wouldn't kill you AND the queen was poisoned from the last card you picked so it could only move 1 space
There is also a secret boss, the black bishop you need to get the red book while having 2 bishops on the field and not having secrifical dagger, then youll have a white card named theocrasy appere which makes bishops kings then in the finel fight you leave one bishop alive and kill the king
To clarify;
You don’t need red book to get theocracy (not sure if you need 2 or more bishops tho)
Fun card facts:
Theocracy deletes the king, and links ALL bishops to victory; you have to kill ALL BISHOPS.
The red book only allows bishops to MOVE orthogonally, NOT ATTACK.
@@blitzkriegorsmthn i was preatty sure it was a preruqusit for theocrasy to apper thanks for correcting me
you dont need theocracy(I think) in order to get the secret fight. all you need is red book and 1 bishop alive
I cannot believe how confident you are taking the court debuff, that scares the crap out of me and you just roll right through it. Great run my dude.
Same thing with Pikemen. Taking then when your main strategy revolves around having a ton of pawns is a bit weird and did ultimately cost him the run
I've been hooked on this game since a friend gifted it to me.
I've found that the biggest hump in difficulty is on Very Hard when you lose your Soul slot. That's just brutal.
17:15 you didn't have to worry about the discovered check from the queen because she was still poisoned and limited to 1 move per turn, but I don't think it woulda saved you in the long run
You inspired me to play this game and my main trouble is hard mode (3rd mode, where you lose 1 shot in shotgun)
imagine how hard it would be to play against an opponent like fairy stockfish
this ai has a lot of pieces but it doesn't even know how to ladder mate 15:00
I don’t think this game is trying to ruin you with good AI, it wouldn’t be fun if the pieces didn’t just generally move towards you and weren’t forced to move and stuff etc
if you already don't know, you can get a secret final boss by taking ascension, theocracy, and the red book (or justice, can't remember which is which)
I think you only need the red book and 1 bishop to be alive at the end
Is Ascension even required?
hey, if you hold shift, you will enter unsafe mode. in that mode, as long as you hold shift you can make moves without the shields telling you no
On that last round where you decided not to shoot into the crowd in fear of a discovered check by the queen, it was still within the first 15 turns, so the queen only could've moved 1 space.
ironic how you said how the queen barely moves more than three spaces and that was your downfall
Hey Tyler, what happened to adding Leshy's camera to the outro art? Didn't the artist say they'd give you the model they made?
It does feel weird having the Silent from Slay the Spire in the banner and nothing from Inscryption, especially considering the length of those series on this channel.
granted I've only played the demo, but Blunderbuss has betrayed me so many times it's a blacklisted item, I will never take it again.
You were worried about the queen literally right after you got subtle poison. I'm pretty sure it makes it so the queen can only move 1 square at a time
Such a good run, sad ending but really glad you posted this one
Day 596 of telling Tyler that he never finished his minecraft series and that he should finish it.
Basically first day of summer today. It was aight.
Day 281
Today was my last day of school we did nothing
Day 556 of agreeing
Summer’s always nice
I cant believe he died because he didnt notice the queen was actually poisoned and he wouldnt have discovered check...
More cards
Three choices
I think that would make it even more fun
Oh and more bosses and maybe even special pieces
Your diction is insane i can still understand everything even in 2x speed
He comes from a place where the accent makes the words very understandable
"How many times you see queen move more than 3 squares"
*Gets killed by a queen that moved 4 squares*
17:20, queen can only move 1 space due to subtle poison (see the dots above her head)
"This is my optimist phase." Stuff like this, worth a nice chuckle. I'm going to be coming back to you more often because I discovered that I love this game.
I was hoping in harder game mode the ai would also get much smarter, but guess not.
during that last game you wouldn't have been in check by the quean for the first stretch of the level, she was poisoned and could only move 1 square, so you could have positioned better in that time.
I wish Tyler had gotten to floor 11 with the boss.
At 15:07 if the queen moved to the left one less it would been checkmate.
Wait was that >15 turns at the end there? I though the last card made it so queens could only move 1 space for the first 15 turns?
if you look at the bottom of the screen it will show you the turns. now you can see if it was >15 turns or not
The ultimate shotgun king challenge should be in 5d with multiverse time travel
nah. 6d multiversal time travel, warps and space bombs
17:15 you could have taken the shot because even if you killed the knight and the pawn you would have gotten an extra turn
5:18 that bishop hes just plain cheating my guy!
Man's just like oh look it's 4pm on Friday in NZ lemme give you something to do while you skive off
..and still waiting for white piece mode.
15:07 when you realize the chess ai is not that good...
"when have you ever seen a queen move more than 3 spaces?"
You know, if you'd just taken that shot you may have had it. That kill on the Pawn wouldn't have done anything since the queen was still poisoned so she wouldn't have been able to move more than one square.
I just finished Very Hard yesterday.
Died like 15 times on king difficulty and had to take a break. Floor 6 was the best so far.
It's really hard.
A game I just started playing called Floppy Knights is a tiny bit similar to this in that it has a grid, health, damage, and cards. I think you'd enjoy it if you haven't already played it and have the time
Am I missing something, on the last turn was there not enough time to reload and kill the rook?
if you reload then its the enemy turn, and if it's the enemy turn they will just kill you
The knight wall
I didn't know you could reload without moving!!!! I lost so many matches to thinking I was forced to move to reload, dagnabbit!
ME: *is born*
My Parents: 6:56
16:20 “let’s see what happens here!”
*Does literally no damage*
“I saw..” lmao
Amazing video, just to know, I am a beginner and with which language did you make the make and with which platform (unity or something else)
I thought turn 12 not killing the knight would be the biggest mistake (I don't think the queen would've been able to kill even if the pawn died), but holy hell I didn't realize that killing the pawn on turn 19 is actually what did this run in...I think the only option from that point would've been to move to move up and to the right so that next turn the pawns directly above could be taken out with a single shot (I would go for just one), at which point one shell would still be loaded.
16:53 me, even tough he can't hear me: NO DON'T SHOOT THERE'S A BISHOP NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO oh i guess you live
15:05 lol after moving down with your King this should've been an instant checkmate on the hardest difficulty, but they instead moved to one column... Bruh
I'm sure allot have told you already but the next big thing for let's play Indi game y-tubers is spirit hunters: Infinite horde. You have my favorite commentary so hope to see you pick it up and try it.
I have been playing this game for weeks, and didn't realize you could click to reload...
I want to die.
just one thing bishops are kinda useless since they can only see half(!) the squares. So if you are on the opposite colored square you will never be checked by a bishop, and can thus ignore them for quite a while.
I thought you were fine as long as the pieces threatening your square weren't about to move, but I was obviously wrong. That queen wasn't about to move but it still took Tyler's king when he moved there.
15:00 if the queen went to b2 instead of a2 (one square right of where it went) it would have been game over
Yeah. I was thinking about it. The AI doesn't play chess very well :p
@@MrElgate well in chess it wouldn't have been a checkmate because black could take the queen
god, that's rough! makes me wonder how with a combination of rng and my inability to not die to discovered checks could I ever even make it to the higher ranks (as the difficulty system is now outdated)
"It ain't easy..."
_Nah, he's not gonna say it._
"...being cheesy."
_Why?_
Man anything harder than hard is just plain not fair. Not challenging just unfair and mostly rng. Sure those same strats do give an advantage in easier and harder modes but that's just skill and you need both skill and luck on king mode. A lot of luck
He got a lot of pawns and the he gave them spears. What a genius strategy
"when do you see Queen moving more than 3 spaces anyways" proceeds to Die to a Queen that kill him from 4 squares
17:24 I hope you see this comment because the queen couldn't kill you. the poison stops it from killing from far I believe
They need to add a 1v1 mode where both of you have pieces and a king with a shotgun with both of you still getting upgrades
One thing I discovered: Knights are jerks, specially when there are 3 or more and are not synchronised
Earlier just before you died you said the queen would kill you if you shot but she was poisoned still and could only move 1 square
10:22 You could have killed the knight, it gives you an extra move to maneuver away/kill
17:15
Did you forget that your poison card limits the queen to 1 square move at a time, for the first 15 turns?
Thanks for having so much great content! Very bingeable
Playing as KING in KING mode?well that's new.
Tyler forgot how the queen was still poisoned from the card he had picked
Why is your webcam video spliced? Kinda obvious at 2:40
Kids today:
"Let's play chess with a new wayy"
"Let's goo"
I did not know there was a manual reload. I beat hard and got to floor 7 on v hard but now I think I can win it all with this information
17:15
the potion card he just picked limiting the queen: am i a joke to you?
i propose a harder challenge: go to settings and set your shield amount all the way down to 0
The moment the pawns stopped being your friend was the moment the tide turned
So the king watched all his men die and turned into CIV Gandhi?
woah look at me im gonna see the video on my notifs and comment easy in hopes of easy likes while mindlessly complimenting tyler
in all seriousness, loving the content
ha.. irony
You aint playing aggro. You are doing tempo attacks at most in this game.
*proceeds to die by queen moving more than 3 squares*
This game looks pretty fun!
At 15:05 if rook goes to the a file and queen goes to the b file you just lose
damn i was getting hopeful
next time maybe
why i see so much more pause cut screen
18:30 but can the pike attack you when there not going to move?
