      and if I had a Magnum ride manual it would probably say that its only 39 trips per hour (which might be more because the dispatch times would show it having about 41 trains) lowering it even further because apparently consing messed with the lift speed when they re-reprogramed it... I mean theoretically if I did have that manual

      I remember being stacked in the final approach of Iron Dragon for like 20+ minutes as something was happening in the station with the people on the previous car. The first time I rode Blue Streak I left the station with no restraints. I tried desperately to get it buckled and tightened which of course didn't happen before the top of the lift hill. I remember wedging my feet up under the seat in front of me to hold myself in the best I could. Those negative gs almost knocked me out. Looking down on the top of a telephone pole really lets you know just how high up you are!

    I was one of magnums ride mechanics for 3 years, its honestly on of the more reliable coasters in the park. sure it has little hiccups now and then, but all in all its a solid ride!

      I don't think maintenance really needs to worry about downtime for Arrow coasters, since they operate almost 95% of the time ~~ S&S providing necessary parts probably helps you guys too 😊👍 Kudos to parks who have Arrow coasters and can still maintain them to this day. 👍👍

    Its funny to see you mention larger riders. I have been going to Cedar Point for decades. I remember showing up the year they added the seat at the entrance to the lines of certain rides to see if the seat belt would latch properly. It was a wake up call for me when I could no longer get on my favorite rides. I lost 40 lbs that winter just so I could get back on the rides.

    Interesting video. I worked at the park in 1978 and '79 (yeah, I'm old now), when Gemini was first opened. At that point the park had no more than six coasters, so obviously every one was heavily used, but a big day, like July 4th weekend, was around 30-35,000 total park attendance, which meant the park would stay open until 11 pm. That only happened three or four weekends a season. Gemini was the furthest out, and they opened a new midway walkway to get to it and an additional crossing for the railroad, which is where I worked. They had more than a few teething problems with Gemini, it didn't open I think until June of '78. It took a long time for the wheel bearings to wear in, and the test trains, even weighted down with sandbags, often got hung up about 2/3, 3/4 of the way through the ride. As we ran the train around you could watch the testing over the course of a day. The speed brake on the first return curve wasn't there for probably the first 10 years of the ride's existence, until the wheel bearings really wore in. BTW, and you may know this, it's possible to control the speed of a roller coaster train through the weight (thickness) of the oil in the wheel bearings. The thinner the oil the faster it goes.
    Anyway, a few days before the official opening of Gemini, they put the word out that any employees who wanted to could help test ride it as many times as they wanted for several hours. When I got off the day shift on the train I went over and rode it 9 or 10 times in a row, from every position on a train, and on both trains. Gemini has always been a sentimental favorite of mine partly for that reason, and also because it's generally a very smooth ride.
    In this era, the vast majority of park employees were regional college students, and most stayed in employee housing. They were also heavily fraternity and sorority members, who really, really knew how to, and liked to "party hearty". This was the 70's, and a lot of them were pretty much like the gang from the "That 70's Show". There was no random testing, or limits on alcohol in employee housing, or rules about sexual harassment. Some of supervision partied almost as hard as the seasonal staff. Oh, and "Animal House" came out the first Summer I was there, so there were also toga parties and other stunts. It was pretty wide open.
    I relate this to set up my story about the Gemini. The second season I was there, 1979, as an engineer on the railroad, the crews of Gemini and the railroad came up with a little bet. When it first opened, Gemini was a female-operated ride, as was the Mine Ride. (They changed the Mine Ride eventually to a male-operated ride because there was too much long-distance flirting going on between the male engine crews on the railroad and the mine ride girls when the trains went by). So the Gemini ride operations girls and the train station/conductor girls (there were no male station/conductors in that era, and no female engine crew, ever) cooked up a "totals race" between the two rides for a busy Saturday. As your video said, when the ride first opened, Gemini could handle up to about 40K riders/day. Well 40 years ago the CP&LE was the most patronized ride in the park. I believe the single year record was something like 3 million, nearly as much as some commuter railroads haul in a year (I understand it's still the 5th highest patronized ride). We regularly operated three trains at a time during peak hours. Could not begin to do that now, they sold the oldest train set over 20 years ago, and don't have six operable engines anymore. During the week, one train is the standard operating practice. We were really "turning and burning" 40 years ago. One train always had to be in motion between stations to operate three trains simultaneously.
    The bet was for a keg of beer. Both ride crews kept very careful track of the turn style ridership totals the entire day. I don't remember whether it was an 11 pm closing day or not, since I just about always worked first shift. That day went by faster than just about any other work day I have ever had. We made about the quickest station stops you can imagine, and pushed the speed limit of the trains as well. At the end of it, the mighty CP&LE bested the Gemini in ridership for the keg, and honor. I don't know what the final tally was, but we may have exceeded 40K riders. I don't drink, but I was into the spirit of the competition, and I no longer remember whether or not I was at the party with the keg, but I had fun helping win it.

      Awesome story sir! I Loved to hear the history of my favorite coaster, also my mom very well could have been with one of the school bands that play in the park I also used to march at cedar point but this was (2007-2011) and then be turned loose to enjoy the park with my friends. So many memories were made here!

    As an overweight person myself, I cannot imagine arguing with staff who said I couldn't safely ride. That's crazy. They have restrictions for a reason.

      I guess some people think they can hold down the harness throughout the ride which is insane. -1 g of force sends your entire body weight into the harness which I imagine would be difficult to hold down

      Right? As an abnormally short person, I feel the same way. If a ride operator tells me I’m too short to ride, I might be disappointed or embarrassed, but I’ll get off the ride! It’s obviously a safety issue and a roller coaster isn’t worth dying over!

      bandit wasn't a hyper. a drop in the middle of the ride went really low, making the lowest point and the highest point over 200 ft.

      Or too tall. If these trains are pretty much Arrow mine train trains, then they're probably pretty tight on legroom. I physically cannot fit on Arrow Mine Trains like Carolina Goldrusher due to my height and leg length, and it's possible it's the same situation with Magnum.

      Not fitting on a roller coaster was my motivation to lose weight. My reward was to go to Cedar Point to celebrate when I got close to my goal. I’m close to my goal but it’s not worth it to go this year because of everything going on right now.

    i hope Magnum sticks around for a long time, it’s one of my favorite coasters at Cedar Point. I didn’t even know the tracks are hand-made but it does feel really unique

      I dunno. Finally made it to CP for the 1st time. Of all the rides Magnum disappointed me the most, and it's such a shame because it is a really fun ride, but at a cost - especially the bunny hills, they're just painful. Not a lot, but I have ridden coasters for decades. I was so blown away by the silky smoothness of SV I truly felt RMC had built the perfect coaster. So, in comparison, this thing hurt. Perhaps different restraints or different trains might help? It's difficult for me to imagine it used to be much worse. Again, I loved the ride, and it probably would be one of my favorites at the park, in the top 2 or 3, if I didn't feel like I'd been gut punched along the way.

    I remember going to cedar point back in the early 2000s with my best friend, his older brother and one of his friends. There was absolutely no one riding Magnum that day so we decided to ride it about three or four times in a row in rapid succession. After hitting those little bunny hills and the tunnels at the end that many times I'm pretty sure all of us thought we would never have kids because the lap bar literally crushed our junk due to the excessive airtime lol

    Could you imagine discovering yourself waddling down the street in one of those news clips about obesity where they crop the faces out of the people in public they use as an example while they talk about the "Battle of the Bulge". Talk about instant depression. Great video ElToroRyan, I learned more about Magnum from this than everything else I've learned about it combined before seeing this. you send it every time with your well thought out videos!

      There's an article online called "Headless Fatties" by Dr. Charlotte Cooper in which she talks about these images that circulate. Almost all of those photos are taken without the person's knowledge or consent and its just gross and dehumanizing.

    You're killing with the in-depth analysis. The fact you worked at two of the most premier parks in the country are adding a layer of complexity nobody is bringing to this hobby. I remember reading about this coaster in 'Boys Life' 30 years ago when I lived in Memphis, TN. I now live in the Cleveland area. I can always invite friends and family to the area because of Cedar Point and I love it. Good job. Keep up the great work!!! You're getting a comment and a like. I rarely give that out.👍💯

    I'll preface this by saying that I haven't been to CP since 2016, so I haven't been on Steel Vengeance. But Magnum is my all-time favorite coaster. I'm sure nostalgia plays a role, as I first rode it in 1991, and was just tall enough to ride. It was terrifying in the greatest way possible lol. And you described here all of the reasons why I love it. You'll never mistake a ride on the XL-200 for any other ride. It has its own personality, and is still a thrill ride.

    Magnum is not just my favorite coaster at Cedar Point -- it's my favorite coaster in the world! I'm sure it's not objectively the best anymore, not even at the park, but it will always be the most special to me. I've completed almost 250 laps in 20 years of riding it (I started in 2001... I was 8!), and I still get a kick out of every airtime moment. Also, a night ride on this thing after a hot summer day? Transcendental. It takes me back to some of my most cherished memories.

      It's honestly pretty simple and easy to not be fat and to actually be in shape and strong ha. Most today, especially Americans (lol) are just lazy people who refuse to take accountability and responsibility and love to make/use excuses because than they don't have to be forced to know its their own damn fault.

      @@averagejoe6031 I feel like its a combination of diminishing returns (a slightly taller coaster for the sake of a record doesnt really make for a more fun coaster - see Kingda Ka) for the amount the rides cost, as well as rides like Maverick & manufacturers like RMC showing that you can make an unbelievably fun ride without going 400 feet in the air.

      Mark Shull that’s true as well. I think the crash forced the industry to spend less and because of that they found that they could make smaller but more intense and creative rides rather that sheer stats.

    I was pretty young when I rode the Magnum and its a wild experience. I barely remember the second or third hill and even with the trim breaks I was whipped into my dad. But after the initial insanity the final hills are pure fun but we got setup out of the final tunnel so that was another rough whip and some wait.

    I rode this on opening day 1989, it was cold and even snowed a little bit...so worth it. This post was well put together and very informative I didn't know they made alterations to the tracks, thanks ELToroRyan

    Great in-depth video! Magnum Team Leader (I think they call it Supervisor now) from 2010 here - over 1.8 million riders that season, and the last time Magnum had truly high numbers. Also worked the ride 2007 and 2008 when we still had to run out to the safeties for setups. I believe 2009 was the first year the crew no longer had to run out to release the safety brakes - I know that by 2010 we could control it from the station. Magnum was the most fun ride I ever got to work, but I would have LOVED to work at Gemini when three train ops were still a thing!

      Hi there, great work on these videos. I have enjoyed this series so much. I can just imagine what these roller coasters are like. As you can tell, based on what I’ve said, so far, I am a blind viewer. So I don’t see what happens with these roller coasters when you show it. However, I do enjoy them nevertheless. I have a question, can you review the comment that came out in 1995 at what is now called Six Flags great escape? I’m not sure if anyone really knows about it, but I have been on it and I have to say it is wicked cool. The airtime is awesome. sorry.

    Best chance of a trimless ride is Last Ride Of The Day I've heard. Apparently Cedar Point operators are often pleased that you "chose" their ride before finishing off your day.
    So get in line at closing time and cross your fingers.

    Ryan, I just have to say thank you. Among all the videos, including those from many of the enthusiasts, that you'll find across TH-cam that spout false claims, opinions and just generally incorrect information, your videos are the exact opposite and offer the general public a true, factual, well-researched look into the workings and history of roller coasters from all over the world. As someone who lived and breathed roller coasters growing up, worked at Cedar Point and pretty much majored in mechanical engineering with the intent to design them myself one day... your videos are the only ones on here that get me so excited that I get a taste of the passion for them that I once had. I often find myself jumping up to my feet and exclaiming things like, "Yes!", "Amen!", or "Exactly what I've said!" I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that and thank you for the content you put on here and the hours you spend making it.
    Ok, so having gushed a bit over your videos, I'll finally comment on this one. I worked on Iron Dragon at Cedar Point in 2007 and amid all the drama that comes with a bunch of young kids working together and miserable one-train operating days after two Magnum trains collided during a particularly heavy rainstorm in late May, I spent a lot of time that summer analyzing cycle times of the trains, just passing the time noticing things while working. It's hard, but yet easy, to define "set-ups" simply as something that happens when a train isn't loaded within a set time. Although, I can't tell you the number of times that I've disappointingly said, "Ready Ready. ...Hold" over the PA at that ride or told someone that Iron Dragon "may have been the slowest ride in the park, but we had to have one of the fastest load times, 30 seconds and we were done, the ride set up." In reality, the timing of a set-up varied directly with train cycle times and relative train spacing, all of which were pretty fluid in measurement. At Iron Dragon, or really any of the Arrow coasters, one of the biggest aids to prevent a setup was something we always lost early in the day or soon after a set-up and that was keeping the trains from coming to a complete stop on the final brake run. Losing that momentum on the train was a HUGE detriment to preventing the ride from setting up and as much as I beat my head against the wall trying to explain that to the other ride ops, I never got that point across to them. You can tell by the way the ride's computer always double-applies the brakes as the train is lethargically parking in the station, it was intended that the train would be moving into the station having not stopped at the final brake run, just trimmed. If the train stops on the final brake run, that was already nearly 10 seconds off your load time, almost guaranteed a set-up was going to happen soon. You couldn't sustain that pace, it was like trying to finish a marathon when you had broken one of your legs halfway through. From my mental notes on timing, factors like that one fluctuated our load times to prevent a set-up from 27 seconds minimum to 36 seconds maximum.
    It's ironic that one of the slowest rides in the park had to be loaded the fastest. Only because of the train length did Magnum put through more riders each day than Iron Dragon and there were a few days we nearly matched or beat them anyway. The set-ups were frustrating, to say the least, and as ride ops, there is so much you are expected to keep secret from the general public, like how their sudden indecisiveness on which seat they wanted to ride in or making us wait for a friend to join them that wasn't even to the top of the stairs yet made the entire ride shut down. Viewed in the light that Cedar Point probably saw them when they came up with the idea, set-ups could be positive enforcement to keep things moving, keep the energy high and keep guests happy. I still, to this day, remember the Saturday (of all days) that we made it until 6:37 PM before we had our first set-up. I nearly cried when I had to call it in, lol! We all did! After that, we set-up 11 more times in the last 3 hours of operation. The worst day I remember, I think we had 32 or 33. When we were moving though, it was just magic to watch and be a part of. We moved in such sync with one another, we had great energy and were probably way too pumped up on the spiel, but we got people excited for one of the least impressive rides on Cedar Point's roster, or tried anyway! It was a great big, first roller coaster for the kids and they could make your day sometimes. They were so excited to be riding one of the big coasters there and they were so polite and full of smiles when you helped pull their harnesses down. As an enthusiast, I loved seeing the kids enjoy conquering their first big coaster. The Iron Dragon ride ops today, or at least the last time I went, are as boring as the ride is. There's zero incentive for them to move with any pace or efficiency. They took so long that they even stacked the second train behind us on the brake run. So in my ridiculously long comment which involves a different coaster than is the subject of your video, I guess I just wanted to express some praise for the set-up, which I truthfully never put together was unique to Cedar Point until your video. The one thing I remember from my first trip to Cedar Point in 1998 was how fast and efficient the park seemed to run. No matter how good your ride ops are, you will have set-ups, which can cause negative views from riders that "got stuck," but for the most part, they encourage ride ops to put energy into their work, hopefully not while sacrificing safety. I agree with you, that's commitment to making your ride ops work, bust their ass, all for the greater good and I would take it all day long over the alternative.

    Honestly my top3 in the park. I love all the little quirks and features that you get on this one that make it unique. The lift sounds cut through the midway and are so pretty to listen too. Makes me feel like I'm living in an 80s movie about summer break

    Could not agree more with saying that magnum is like a wood coaster! Awesome video on my favorite coaster. I can't wait to operate this beast once the park opens this season!     I find it fascinating how Gemini operated when it ran 3 trains, it seemed like a blast to operate it back then.
    The operating goal for Gemini (along with a lot of the older Arrow Coasters) was for there to be at least one train on the course at all times. So let’s say that the Crest of the lift hill is point A, and the final break run is point B, and we ignore the safety breaks. The goal was for there to be one or more trains between A and B. This is why in a lot of old videos of Gemini you’ll see a train drop off the lift hill while the train in front of it is still going through the final bunny hills. I just thought that was fascinating.

    The bit about the different feel of this coaster vs modern coasters, I really feel it. It breaks my heart at all the wooden coaster conversions that really take away the true grit of the wooden coaster. It's their charm! Hybrid coasters are fine and all, and have their own merits and their place, but if all the old school wooden coasters are converted, people in the future just won't get what makes them special.

    It did overshoot the last brake run in the rain and caused a collision. I have a picture somewhere... Only minor injuries to passengers, but the fiberglass trains took a beating.

      Yes they were, for the guests and the ride ops both. In some ways, I appreciate the "set ups," which I'm now learning were a Cedar Point thing, not an industry-wide standard, but things like that kept the day moving, the energy among everyone was high, people were happy, it didn't feel like you were working your 4th 12-hour day that week (well, not as much). Those one-train days were miserable.

    I'm loving this series, dude -- amazing information you can't get anywhere else. On this video, I especially appreciate the 80s flavored background music. It's very subtle, and as a child of the 80s, those songs are never far from my mind anyway, so I had to check that the soundtrack was actually there and not in my head.

    I love this coaster. It’s so amazing. It’s like the vortex that used to be in kings island That one had loops but it was a right that just had insane character. If you rode it a couple times in one day you started to learn all its little imperfections that gave it so much character.

    Once again, excellent, in depth analysis of one of my all time favorites! Magnum is my fourth favorite in the park. As far as the trains, I've said for some time I think those S&S trains like they put on the Arrow hyper style coaster Titan Max that was very similar to Magnum in Japan would be awesome for Magnum. Titan Max was the same model and featured the same exact trains as Magnum originally, so maybe those S&S trains could work? They look so comfortable and open, and I'm sure are likely much lighter than Steel Dragon's B&M trains.
    I remember watching Magnum making test runs for many hours on opening day 2019 and it was absolutely CRAWLING over each hill. I was just watching waiting for it to valley. Any slight wind would have done that I'm certain. So yeah, I see how Magnum definitely needs plenty of time to warm up like you said. It didn't open until about 2pm that day.

    I don't know how I missed this last year, but I'm glad it popped into my feed today. Great video with incredible in-depth information. I waited 3+ hours to ride Magnum in May of 1989 and witnessed a maintenance crew using electrical tape to install new padding on the lap bars. It was well worth the long wait, and I managed a couple of rides during that summer. Now, Magnum is a must ride on every CP visit for me.
    I'll be riding it early on Monday morning for the first time this year.

      Road Magnum twice yesterday. The first ride was toward the back and it was just as I remember...a great ride with incredible pops of airtime on the bunny hills during the home stretch. The second ride was in the "Magic Seats" of row 3 and did not go as expected. The riders in rows one and two weren't paying attention when the gates opened and did not get on the train. Car one was then really light, with the only riders being the two of us in row three. We bounced around the track the entire time. Even though we weren't stapled, every transition was rough and painful, especially the final bunny hills. BY FAR the worst ride I've ever had on Magnum.

    I remember first season it opened.... I was too young to ride. But that day at the park it got stuck at the top of the first hill a couple of times. I remember after sitting for a long period of time, the riders had to walk down the hill. I’ve always wondered what caused that and I couldn’t imagine having to make that walk down the hill. Great series dude!

    Great video and I learned a lot! I grew up 20 minutes down the road from Cedar Point and fondly remember the Renaissance CP went through starting in the late ‘80s. However, I’m really surprised that on a “problematic coasters” video that you didn’t mention the early problems Magnum had with trains getting stuck on the lift hill! I remember seeing trains stuck halfway up the hill 30 minutes or more! Maybe a follow up video on that would be a good idea!

      Man, I was there in the early 90's and I have fond memories of watching the guests scoot on their butts down the hill after the train stopped, and watching park employees going up and down the hill like it was nothing trying to restart it.

    As a coaster nerd, Magnum fan, and former member of the crew, I want to think you for putting this together. I really enjoyed it and the info within is extremely accurate. I especially enjoy talk of Magnums operations, capacity, set ups, blocks, etc and of course the modifications that took place early on in the ride's existence.
    The only part I'd disagree with is where you said it was possible to put two trains on the lift prior to 2014. I can't speak to the original state of the programming, but this was not the case when I worked there in '01, 03, and '04 (last year to hit 2 million! :)). I could think of a way to MAYBE (I wouldn't have tried it as I liked my job) get two trains on the lift if you stopped the lift with the train above the set of proximity sensors near the bottom and then powered down the ride, cleared the blocks so the system would "lose" that train followed by powering up and sending a train as soon as you started the lift with the train already on it. This would essentially be what happened in the Smiler tragedy (manual clearing of a block that was actually occupied) except with Smiler, that train had rolled back on the course, not in between sensor sections on the lift.

      I vaguely recall being told something similar when I worked on Corkscrew in '05 & '06, that it was theoretically possible to end up with 2 trains on the lift hill if the ride was shutdown with a train on the lift, and was something we needed to be aware of when starting up the ride in the morning

    Great video Ryan.
    I am a former Knoebels Ride operator, having worked Phoenix many a time during my 5 seasons with the park. We could cycle a train for load/unload within 20-25 seconds. So when train A was on the double up double down, we could be dispatching train B by the time Trian B hit the lift Train A was already docking in the station and prepping for load/unload.
    It is one of the fastest operations I have been a part of and I think to this day is still the fastest cycle time for any park.
    Many parks like 6 flags wait for their woodies to hit the brake run before they will even cycle the loaded train for dispatch, which is beyond absurd because it kills rider capacity and just wastes time.
    6 Flags in Maryland has the WORST cycle time for both ROAR and WILD ONE I have witnessed.

      I hate rough rollercoasters, but Magnum never seemed that rough to me. Blue Streak, on the other hand, is terribly rough, gives me a headache every time and I won't ride it anymore.

      I just rode it 2 days ago tbh my expectations weren't high since I was more hyped for maverick steel vengeance and millennium force but when I got off this ride I was blown away the airtime hills are so intense! I was dreaming about going to cedar point since over 15 years I finally could go there and I bet you will go there at one point as well!!

    I've ridden Magnum a few times, last time around 2006 when I was there last. It's one of my favorites and don't mind it being a bit rough. Another time I went was during a middle school trip. I was with my gym teacher and he tucked his hat down between him and the seat, we ride and come back around to the station to discover his hat was missing. I'd love to get back to Cedar Point to ride some old favorites (Magnum being one) and some of the new stuff they have there. I'm a bigger fella but trying to lose some weight so I can ride all the rides. I was a bit bigger last time I was there and barely got the ok to ride Dragster and couldn't get the belt to fasten on Force. I'm hoping to be skinny enough to ride Force again. Thank you for the great videos, i'm enjoying them.

      As problematic as x2 was/is, Ryan was a ride operator at cedar point and great adventure, so he has an easier time finding information on their rides.

    Magnum is a rough ride, but Cedar Point is my home park and there is absolutely no other coaster like this - the airtime is insane and is full of quirks and character that you don't see on other coasters. It was my favorite when I was younger - not so much anymore, but it's still a classic that I will always enjoy.

      Magnum is Magnum. And The Beast is the Beast.
      Clearly, what the Beast is to KI, Magnum XL-200 is to CP.

    I love rides like Magnum for their imperfections, but it also shows just how good Schwarzkopf was - he was of the same era (pre-computer, pre machine bending), yet his coaster profiles are so natural and fluid.

      They were also nowhere near the size of the Arrow installations, which may have something to do with it.
      Love Schwarzkopf though! His rides have aged much better than most of Arrow's.

      @@jumpbacktome I think it's true even when you compare to smaller Arrows, but they're both totally different manufacturers and I didn't mean for it to sound like I was playing both off against each other :) And yeah, I rode Olympia Looping in London recently - totally ferocious ride but glass smooth :O I have such a soft spot for old school Arrows though!

      @@torezcoasters6043 The roller coaster with the biggest drop and also the fastest roller coaster in the world was at the amusement park in my back yard for a year or so. It took the record from Magnum in 1991.

    Ride ops were killing it on Sat 10/12/24 and it was a pleasure to see more than half the queue full. Magnum deserves the riders!

    People always act like we had to settle for rough Arrows back in the day, and like it was impossible to make a smooth steel coaster before 1990. But like... Schwarzkopf showed we didn't have to settle

      Absolutely. Schwarzkopf, with the help of Stengel, was building smooth, heartlined roller coasters since the late 70's.

      It was made after Arrow started copying B&M and learned after the Drachen Fire failure

      My local park (lagoon) has two Schwarzkopfs, Colossus: the fire dragon and the original Jet Star 2. Colossus was my favorite ride in the park until they built Cannibal and is buttery smooth to the day and in the past couple years has had no lines (probably because of cannibal ngl), it’s a masterclass in rollercoasters. Jet Star, on the other hand, is not. I understand it’s historical importance, but man, it is ROUGH. I only ride it maybe once or twice a year one because it’s so rough and two, I can’t ever convince anyone to ride it with me and you have to have two passengers per seat because of the toboggan cars. Besides the Bat (which is a glorified kiddy coaster) it’s probably one of the least liked rides at the park. I don’t know if there is anyway to improve it but the contrast between Jet Star and Colossus is insane

    Road this the first year it came out and did again 20 years later and it felt the same. Great classic coaster. Never had a problem riding it when I was there. 😁

    Great video!!! Brought back a lot of memories from 05' and 06' when I worked at Cedar Point. I mostly worked on Corkscrew, and we had to deal with the "C Set" issue, but we could at least release the safety brakes from controls without running out there. You'd still get written up with an "Operational" and would earn yourself a "Step" towards being fired if it happened while you were working controls. Our ride also didn't automatically advance the trains through the brake runs. We had separate dispatch buttons for the station and the waiting brakes. With a train in the station, the next train would hit the waiting brakes and would come to a stop while occupying 2 different block sections. We had to manually advance that train to free up the previous block or the following train would set up in the safety brakes. Fun times. 2005 was also the year we had a restraint failure in one of the train cars, and had a train return to the station with guests showing us that their harnesses weren't locked anymore. After that incident, they added seat belts to the harness overnight. Our crew motto that year became: We screwed so hard they had to give us seat belts, Screw Crew 05'

      The trains on Phantoms Revenge actually aren't completely Morgan, they are the old arrow trains from Steel Phantom but with a new fiberglass body and restraint system.

    The Magnum will always be my favorite. I love how it's both smooth and rough. Modern coasters are too smooth, if you ask me. I love Millennium, but it doesn't give the same thrill. In my opinion, smooth coasters don't give the fear and intensity of older rides. When I was a kid, the Magnum was king, and it scared the living daylights out of me when I first rode it at age 6. It is much more hardcore. Nothing can beat the air time on the Magnum. It is quality air time. The "air time" on rides like Steel Vengeance can't even compare. The lap bars are too constricting. You really fly out of your seat on the Magnum, thanks to the old-style lap bars. Car 6, row 3, black train is the best seat, though. And yes, the sound of its lift hill is pure euphoria.

      Completely agree. It’s been my favorite roller coaster since the first time I rode it. Before millennium opened man the lines were long but ever since then you can nearly walk on magnum any day you’re there.
