I applaud Traxxas for making some decent improvements to the truck and most importantly, getting a brushless system price-wise more inline with the other manufacturers. Just wish they had updated the shocks!
I'm impressed they added the MAXX axle extreme HD upgrades to these models. In my experience the axles and hubs break far more often than the shocks do. Aluminum caps on the stock shocks is really all they need for extra durability, and the stock shocks are spring tuned better than GTR shocks are IMO.
@netcruzer Agree 100%. I dont know why ppl complain about the ultra shocks. Aluminium caps is all thats needed against the only flaw they have: cap popping. Function wise they work awesome!!! And the other improved parts look awesome too, indeed!
@@netcruzer yeah the old knuckles were a little weak, but I didn’t have much issues with the rest of it. I found the shock shafts pretty poor unless you upgraded to TiNi versions. GTR shocks are nice because there are a couple of piston sizes and Tekno 13mm springs fit, so a lot of tuneability.
The Ultra Shocks can be hit or miss, but look what Traxxas puts them through in their videos. Pretty decent abuse and no cap pop offs. Maybe they’ve revised the shock caps, though I’ve put the aluminum shock caps on my trucks that still run Ultra Shocks, and they are pretty good with being able to tune them to your liking. I seem to have more issues with the GTR shocks and rear end sag with just the truck weights, and that’s with using both TLR SCT springs and Team Associated Factory Team springs with various oil weights from 30-80.
Greg, I admire how you can get such an information-dense video out AND with so much running footage and still keep the total runtime to single digit minutes. You're a pro, of course - I'm just saying it shows and I'm a fan. Kudos!
You really can't beat Traxxas for an out of the box do everything vehicle. All ages of people can enjoy our hobby and that makes our hobby that much better.
Great review👍 This is promising. So many needed updates addressed. Loving the added HD parts. Totally agree with the driveshaft not being metal. Wished they at least put metal shock caps if they are going to put the same shocks on it. Looks like Traxxas is doing some overhauling with the ESC and motor. No more brushed🤔 Not bad if you are getting the same or better speeds.
Great run down as usual 💯 I think that's gonna be a reliable system...plus the heavy duty parts on an already tough truck, can't go wrong racing or bashing or just having some fun in the yard!!!!
These cars with the lower speed compared to the vxl + the extra top durability features from the vxl are going to turn into completely unbreakable rcs. The slash even gets the xrt and raptor R body mounting system omg!
@@gregorholmes1837yeah the one that came with it!! Looks like a brushed motor, what's with the holes in the can? Those will fill up with dust and burn that motor out in no time, think that's there angle tho, keep you buying! I keep disliking newer Traxxas electronics more and more.
Ah come on guys. They damn good trucks at decent prices. The 30$ over a brushed is defin worth it. Although ford taught us to use all the same parts to keep price down. Can’t imagine this new system is more then 2$ more expensive to produce. But that’s the American dream
They did good with these trucks. The extreme duty kit is hiw they should have been built from the beginning. That being said, arrmas offerings still gove you much more power with 3S capabilities for similar pricing.
I love and hate it! I have like 60 clear bodies to paint for the slash, better get them out and sold fast, before they all go that route of no pin clips! 🙄! Great video thanks for keeping us updated 😎👍🏻👍🏻
Its a great product. Only thing that still sucks are the shocks. The plastic shock caps to fall off after some time and i would recommend the aluminum shock caps. Its like a 20$ tuning part.
I wish they would stray away from 2S systems. 3s is so much more efficient, It doesn't have to have more speed just a lower KV so that you get so much more run time. I'm guessing they do it to keep it lighter and for certain spec-class racing. Most people are going to bash them though and the slash is a super tough truck that can take a serious beating. I remember my 4s converted one at the skate park would not die. I wore out before the truck broke. Excellent platform. The best part is the thorough reviews you do so we know exactly what to expect.
Change out the '' powdered compressed metal " Spur & Pinion and Plastic Servo as soon as you get it and it's not bad. It's a dirt/mud/tarmac racer so don't expect it to survive full sends. Great little racer canvas.
Looks like a sweet truck and definitely a good move for traxxas but that price point is just to high for $10 I can get a Arrma senton blx which can take 3s and is much faster and better in my opinion
Then go buy one? This is the entry level 4x4 system from Traxxas now instead of their titan brushed motors. This isn’t meant to be a 3s truck, it’s for beginners/others that don’t need 3s speed or power. Sometimes too much power puts people off. This 2s system looks have plenty of power and grunt to keep things exciting.
This is pretty neat I think I might get this for my Buggy to upgrade from brushed but I recognize the Field this is pretty cool to see just how small the world really is.
Definitely picking this up for racing. Was looking for a 4x4 SCT and they are expensive. This gives you brushless and beefed up parts for a great price
As unfortunate as it is they didn't make the esc 3s capable for those who want an upgrade, at least traxxas didn't pull some stunt like make a 3S compatible esc, but restrict it to 2s until you buy some sort of upgrade card.
The bottom tier models are meant for beginners/others who aren’t looking for speed. You want the 3s system go buy the model equipped with the 3s system, or buy this model and put in the power modules of your choice 🤦🏻♂️🤔😂😂😂😂
This is cool they finally updated the standard Slash 4x4 i wonder if Traxxas will come out with a VXL and an LCG Ultimate style model. I also wonder if the older Slash bodies and body mounts will fit older Slash 4x4 models. Still a cool truck and i hope Traxxas comes out with more updated models in the future.
My kids have been racing/bashing the Losi's 4 plus years now. Have only changed bearings & replaced a spur. They are also double the price for just a chassis, have to add everything else.
@scottmerryman1862 what losi? The race kit or the 22s rtr? If it's the kit then ofcourse but it's premium. All tje upgrades are there. Rtr is a stripped down version so they can add the electronics in and make money. The pro4 sc10 amd is 3s capable but the 2s only slash is the exact same price. 339.00 no way would I buy chinsy slash over a tlr or associated rtr
So the big question, lol, will that clipless body mount kit retrofit to the older slash bodies with pre drilled mount holes. Like maybe use that hole to hold the locating pin on the kit?
I predict in 2 years are less they will replace the vxl 3 with an updated version less prone to overheating. Its overdue for an update. Great video and great truck.
Nothing earth shattering, but it seems like a solid "first truck" for someone getting into the hobby, or looking for a simple extra RC they won't spend too much time working on
Greg, is this truck any faster than a brushed setup running a 2s lipo? Say xl5 system stock in the stampede? I wouldn't mind putting the bl-2s in my skully.
What’s this mean for spec slash racing? Will spec slash racing switch over to this power plant to accept new racers or will people be forced to buy this then replace the brushless system with the older brush system?
what a wierd kit , but nice parts for my existing one, i would still recommand a 4x4VXL + extreme heavy duty kit over this , that looks slow, like the clips
So I'm confused. The new brushless are slower and can only do 2s but the old brushless is 3s and faster? Are they getting rid of the vxl? Or getting rid of the brushed versions all together?
No, this new BL-2s system is replacing the Titan 12T brushed motor and XL-5 brushed esc. It will be faster, have more torque, and last much longer on a charge. This is going to be Traxxas new entry level 4x4 system.
I checked the price, and I can tell it is value. Most of the time, Traxxas doesn't like to give more, but I think Traxxas wants to compete with others by giving a platform fully upgraded. The HD parts cost $60 from bid, but at full price is $100 - $120, depending on the seller. Is value the only word I can say
No more BMX track. They used to be ok with it. But apparently some people have been trashing the place. So I don’t blame the track. I always fixed any divots I made, cleaned up trash, took debris off the track when I was there to do my part. But I’m a different breed. Unfortunately it’s a case of a few ruining it for others.
@@rcdriver That's a shame, like you said, it only takes a few not so caring people to wreck the fun for everyone. RIP BMX track, you will be missed. Appreciate the reply.
I put a 4s Arrma esc and motor in my Stampede 4x4. I can run 3s or 4s. I can break the wheelie bar off on 4s after about 5 minutes. Much more fun to be able to run 3 and 4s.
So there are some things I like and some things that are just okay. I like the more competitive price. It's now in range with the Arrma Senton & Associated Pro4. I still think both the Senton & Pro4 are better given you can run 3s on those (I don't know much about this ESC yet) but I do like the reduced price & upgraded parts. That's nice. If you run at a track you have to run 2s so the non 3s thing isn't that big of a deal for me. While I'm generally anti body clips on scalers, bashers I don't really care so that doesn't do much for me here. If anything it just means if you upgrade to another body say something with air cutouts, now you have to replace your posts too. :/ This clip system kinda pigeon holes you into their bodies only which stinks. Still at least this offering puts the Slash more in line with other trucks out there and Traxxas's parts availability is 2nd to none so there is that.

Why put all the heavy duty parts on it when it has less power then a 3s Slash 4x4
So people getting into it can beat the heck out if it without breaking it.
Idk about $550 for this especially since its only 2s capable 😂
So they will boost the price of 800$? 😂
