What an amazing journey this project has been. Hope you enjoyed this slightly different style of video. 😊
Question is…is that the end of this journey or are you going to aim for greater success?
Congratulations!!!
Such a good video and awesome project..Always love your channel!. Sorry for the bad ending.. Hope you rebuild. All the best!
Still have to finish watching but I had to stop. I had to tell you to align your antennas, I can't not.
Both vertical or both horizontal.
Loved the more formal style - less shake cam is always more good!
Congratulations on the world record! That's a significant and fantastic feather in your cap, even if you might feel that the car was capable of so much more. Older and wiser you will be for your next attempt ;)
I'd love to see version 2 of this car. Not sure whether steering was an included component of this build, but adapting the 'take off' or auto-recovery modes which I believe are built into RC aircraft such that you can hold the car in the middle of the runway could be helpful. An AI algorithm with a camera to assess position must be available somewhere, because how you'd steer the thing at 200+mph I just don't know. The results also speak to incremental improvements - did you take measurements of crosswind speed and have you measured how far that pushed you off track? I'd also love to see your take on active aero and ways to keep the car pressed down onto the track once you get to the point where you need solid tires. As discouraging as the final result was, I'm sure you're already itching to rebuild and get back out there...
I’m calling out now, you may have beaten the world record at 94.76, but after knowing it has the “potential” to blow that record literally away, I can’t see you giving up now. This may be a record, but you will have to come back, because that drive to go faster and farther is there.
Massive congratulations to you and I hope to see you again!
Like you said, seeing what the car can really do, makes me feel the 'real' target to beat is those 141mph. The next version of the car might be a consolidation of everything that went well, plus some minor improvements, so i'm very curious for that!
first thing that came to my mind when i heard 90mph was... that cant be the wr thats not even fast and after 1 minute on google ive seen plenty of cars that claim to be much faster. like this: /watch?app=desktop&v=fL6XDIV0R8o
@@pizzapower95 that's a regular electric powered RC (and unofficial), not jet-powered, James's record is for jet-powered RCs
the current record is now over 200 mph
202.2 officially
I was honestly heartbroken to see how it ended but what you have built and developed over the last year can only be described as incredible!
The best part of NASCAR is the crash. He’ll come back better after this, I’m sure of it.
@@Sniperboy5551 follow the SpaceX philosophy. Push things till they break and learn. If the car is in one piece you dont know its limits.
@@pin65371 Yeah. The benefit when you don't have to worry about any occupants. Just costs a lot of time and money.
The good thing is that he only lost the physical parts. The engineering and lessons learned stay, so he can rebuild better!
@@pin65371Though he didn't push it to it's limits, it just didn't like the wind.
Tremendous achievement to break a world record - don’t loose sight of that - you are the first! As others have said, progress comes from failure and I look forward to you going further and indeed grabbing that overall record at 200mph+
So when he said the record is 93mph that would be for an rc jet car? I know I’ve seen videos with rc cars doing over 200 or damn close to it at least
Thanks for putting all the hours in, James. Been watching these videos today and they've really helped me get through a tough time. Fabulous engineering.
Great Video James. It was one of the highlights of the weekend for me, and I felt your pain on the last run. Guinness World Record, and as we all witnessed, it had so much more to give and I know at some point you'll be back to push that Jet record even further. 😎
Thanks! It was a big shame but we’ll see if I rebuild it and go again. 😊
@@Project-Air If you're anything like the cambell family. You will, it's an addiction. You may sit on it for a while. But when someone takes the record, you'll be looking at that pile of parts again 😃
@@Project-Airplease don't give up on this car. Your design was beautiful and everyone could see it's potential. You will smash that record if you keep at it. Well done on the run and hopefully we will see this beast again in it's full glory. Keep the head up and thanks for the entertainment.
@@Project-Air you must! A jet car can't have a record that's lower than held by a wheel driven car, it's just not cricket, or other British saying as appropriate. ;)
Tu mama
Was good to see you again. Epic build, star of the show! Sucks you broke it but atleast it gives us content!!
Could have been worse. Could have been yours 😂
when is your 200mph vid coming out?
@@tanishq3227yesterday
excited for your build for the new car, been waiting for ages
If its not him I know a jet car will own the record. I'm starting to think you know that Kev. Your smart enough to know content is worth more money than a speed record.
Perhaps for the next project you could add a first person POV cam with live feed on the car along with a trajectory mapping failsafe that will make sure the car drives straight with good steering.
Spectacular job none the less and kudos to you for getting to 140 with such a great concept. It's got an incredible amount of potential and as the aim was to learn and experience, all I see is a massive W mate! Cheer up!
great idea, commenting here to boost this up and hopefullly he sees this.
That failure is nothing less that inspiration to all of us engineers and technicians. Failure is the best opportunity to become the best in whatever we do. Thanks for your hard work and great video.
Incredible to see those speeds and what you achieved. Would love to see you have a go at it again if possible.
Why are you here Zollo?
Zollo is into RC?!?!?!?!?!?! 😮

The passion and perseverance of engineers is always a spectacle and always leaves me in awe. Great work and love the RC!
The experience you've gained is phenomenal. Things like this sadly happen. I really enjoyed the journey and I'm looking forward to more engineer videos from you !
Your best project yet. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Amazing series to watch. I sure hope jetcat will be willing to sponsor an other attempt at this. I think you've proven yourself capable of pushing that record way higher.
You didn’t make the wrong call, boss. You made the right one, not giving up and choosing the competition. Well done mate!🎉
Congrats and sorry to see the car ending up the way it did in a bad way in the end. I’m sure you’ll be back again and will continue to do amazing things. Great inspiration to all Rc enthusiasts
Congratulations on the record James. It’s clear there is a lot more to come from you! Sorry it ended in pieces, but you certainly put on a show for us all!
Thanks David!
I don't quite understand why their 137mph run didn't count since the footage clearly shows the nose cone came off AFTER it passed the speed gate. Do the rules say that it has to come to a complete stop for the run to be over?
@@aaronmicalowe I’m assuming so. If that wasn’t the case someone could literally just make a missile with wheels and record the max speed it reaches, even if it tears itself apart after. The rules are probably the way they are to make sure it is still a car and still functions like a car and not just a missile.
@@conorstewart2214 I thought of this after my comment, but they probably also have to prove the thing can stop safely in order for the owner of the land to cover their liability.
@@conorstewart2214 a rc jet car IS a missile with wheels 😀
You absolutely can not leave it here
You have the potential to do so much more
Please carry on young man
BRAVO, Every set back just makes you stronger 💪 Looking forward to whatever you have in store for the future 👍
To prevent future incidents like the one with the nose cone, a pre-launch checklist would be a good idea
Being organized doesn't seem to be his strong suit...
Make yourself a foam pad with labelled holes in it for the parts that you remove during maintenance. You can easily check that you don't have anything left over before you run.
Seeing the progression from your early days to now is amazing, great work!
Congratulations my friend from Australia. Incredible work.
Thanks to JetCat for their (in the end) generous donation. :) Despite the dramatic finale, you should be super proud of what you've accomplished, and the potential it open up in your future! Great work, all around! Congrats!
Congrats on record! All the progress you made here was great, and there's definitely room for more. As a suggestion, aviation uses check lists to avoid missing important steps. A list of each step needing to be done when preparing the car probably would've caught the missing screws. Including weather conditions might've stopped the final attempt as well. When doing a failure cause analysis, it's never just one thing, and failures can be an opportunity to identify process changes which are capable of eliminating entire classes of failures in the future.
The single most important part to remember is, youre probably the weakest link.
The car doesnt forget screws, you do.
The car doesnt device to drive in bad conditions, you do.
A list is a great way to somewhat support that weak link
@@Nick-hm9rh that, and modify the design where a human error can cause critical failures so that human error no longer happens. Like, if missing those screws out resulted in catastrophic damage to the car (through a crash), design the nosecone mount to require fewer screws, or for the car to be unable to run without them fitted. Poka Yoke.
If you put wings on it it could fly at this point 😂
You wouldn’t be able control it and would crash
@@DTAM-Aviationshorts290 but it would fly tho lol
If my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike - that Italian guy
@@aabidtumbi no if your grandma had wheels she woulda been a cripple
Call it a "wingless aircraft" just roll with it
I think you’ll have no problem in getting support for a rebuild…truly inspiring
The beauty of RC hiobby is nothing is really ever destroyed. Every part can individually be replaced, most definitely for that turbine. Best of luck to your future endeavers and good for you to get the record.
Huge congratulations. Not too many people get to say they set a world record. We’ll all be anxiously looking forward to see what you do next.
Great run James! The main takeaway is to learn from your mistakes, apply them to continual improvement and mount another attempt! Kudos for your record!
Congrats on the official record!!! This project was a blast to follow!
I came across this video by chance this morning. Great video and well done on getting a record. Your last video insert of Richard Noble took me back many years when I was lucky enough to see him test run his car (Thrust 2 I think) at RAF Culdrose. Reaching that 137 mph speed must encourage you to build another car and have another go. You’ve come so far, learnt so much it would be a shame to let that knowledge and experience go to waste. Go on, you can do it😊
I am sure, if you had the choice to lock in the record at 94mph, at the start of the quest you would have been happy to do that. It’s hard not to count what could have been… but chin up, you have taken us on a great ride… and I, for one, appreciate it. And selfishly happy that there is likely more to come from this project. Well done!!!
Yeah it's very sad but if you're, as an example, an American that spent all your money, lost your house and gained some astronomical debts in an attempt to cure a cancer and after that learn the cancer is still there thriving inside of you... You can then watch this video and think: At least I didn't crash my remote controlled jet racing car during a world record event!
@@Alfred-Neuman Are you going to post that reply to every single video on TH-cam that isn’t purely about helping/saving humankind? Maybe TH-cam is not the place for that example American person to find solace during a cancer battle?
@@MrGoat73
I wasn't but now that you talk about it, I realized it makes a lot more sense that I initially thought. Thank you for your input!
Congratulations on the record James!
Shame the car did not make it in the end, however, the goals were reached, lessons were learned and the experience gained during the build and runs will help future projects succeed!
Absolutely great video mate and that record absolutely worth the effort you've put throughout the journey .
Excellent job, well done! You are in a row with all of these heroic British land speed record breakers! You will be the one to set the land speed record for RC cars at 200mph! Go for it!
I was literally on the edge of my seat while watching the car's final run. Was heartbroken looking at the run. Awesome work man and congratulations on your WORLD RECORD.
great job bro its been a wild ride
Spelled great wrong bro 💀
That was amazing to watch. I'm sorry it ended so soon for the car, but this was probably the best RC series I've ever seen.
All to learn more to apply moving forward. Great job! Never give up!
If rules allow, I'd have to put a FPV module on this rocket. I hope you find a way to go to the next level with this concept - it's a great charter for engineering of every type. Congrats on the world record too!
FPV will be useless at those speeds and vibration levels. Even an FPV on a regular RC speeder is shaky as hell - footage from this will be straight down unusable.
@@zusursthe new DJI O3 system with vibration isolators would do the trick, the main issue with such a setup is the fact that the camera is so low to the ground it’s hard to see the edges of the tarmac
@@WestonNey You would think that from how we dampen cameras on fpv quads but I experimented with dji on my Vendetta and the best/most tolerable video to drive with came from having an aluminum bar hard mounted to a carbon fiber center brace with the camera hard mounted to the aluminum bar above the roof of the car. I tried tpu flexible mounts like we'd normally use on a drone and it was horrible, no way you could drive with it. The biggest issue is even at 50-60mph you feel like you are hitting light speed and you kind of get tunnel vision and it's hard to see boundaries. inside a parking garage I was good because the walls formed an obvious boundary. Outside it's really hard to see low curbs when you are at speed.
@@zusurs Might be worth it, from his point of view, to approach the major players to see if someone wants to contribute, be a major player in an outstanding world record attempt. 🙂
@@WestonNey Could possibly follow a marked line though? Or aim for a landmark the other side of the finish gate?
Such a bittersweet end. This can't be the end though. Unless you have other plans for that second jet already. That setup definitely had the potential to double the record. It sucks to have to start over, but you've already come so far!
Major congrats for your accomplishment! As so many others have commented, I was heart broken for you on that last run. It was a fantastic looking build. Looking forward to watching whatever comes next from you.
Awesome project! Always heartbreaking when something thing gose wrong and you can pin it all onto 1 bad decision, but I really hope this dosent put you off to try again the design had a lot of potential and having a chance to redo it givea you the chance to make it even better! I love to see you really put a jet car thought its paces and see what it can really achieve.
I didnt know we had this in the UK! I'm defiantly going to start working on my rc car :D
Huge congrats on the record! Hope to see you back at Rossa again when there's better conditions so we can see what your design can really do!
Well done! "My aim was always to try to get as near as I could to the maximum power and efficiency from a jet engine." - Frank Whittle. He's proud of you mate. We are too!
even if in a small way, CONGRADULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! understanding the farther you get into a project, the more you learn. within every project there is always much to learn. you have proven to yourself that you can do it and the car can do it!!! have you tried FPV to keep the car on the road? mike
You still got the record, and this series has been so awesome to watch. Huge win. Cannot wait to see what you do next.
Sucks they didn't count the last run, since you did go through the finish line. Well done fellas, these things happen and at least you learned a lot and did achieve what you set out to do. I call that a win. Congrats on being a world record holder
He brought up the tailgating tent and I got all excited
Honestly amazing! Dont let the bad bits get you down and keep smashing it out. Big fan of both you and DIYperks so was cool to see you together. More of that please!
Absolutely awesome job, well done!please keep on with this project, I'd love to know what that car could really do
Congratulations James! Sad to see that the car was destroyed in the last run but I do feel like you'll be back to claim a much greater record in the future! Loved the edit on this btw and almost 200k views in 13hours WOW!
You obviously have a great talent for this. I hope you keep at it, without letting this stop you. Good Job
Congratulations for the Record, the first two runs looked really amazing and I think the car you built is really good!
I'm so sorry that the third attempt went out like it did! Hopefully you will be encouraged to rebuild it and try again.
Best project yet by far. If you ever decide to try again id recommend air brakes in addition to your disk brakes
I hope that your sponsors can help you out with some parts for V2. This has been an awesome build series and you should definitely be proud of what you achieved!
Amazing project, and thank you for taking us with you on its journey. Life is full of mistakes, and learning from them is how to move forward. You got this!
you did a fantastic job my friend!! don't give up!! keep going for a new record!! 🇬🇷

Well done on the World Record ❤
Shame it ended the way it did, but huge congrats on getting the record!
What a fantastic set of videos, well edited. You can feel the excitement and tension building with each phase of the build and test runs.

I used to have a RC P51 mustang that I build from nothing. I got it flying on rails, and after tinkering when I should've have, my next flight ended in the complete destruction of the plain. That feeling is devastating!! I totally feel you man!!
Youve gotta keep going , you can and should do more . I wonder if a pulse jet would be worth a build . I am going to binge your videos now
congratulation James breaking the speed record wish u best of luck in your next project
Awesome work, good reminder that nothing worth your time, blood, sweat, and tears will ever be easy. Keep up the great work kid!!
that car went out in a blaze of glory. it's heartbreaking because of the immense effort you punt into it but somehow also fitting its own nature: it was built to be a shooting star.
This is about as real as video documentation for a project gets, and I respect that deeply. Engineering skills have been appropriately held in high esteem within civilized culture precisely because they embody the fine art of solving real world physical problems. Being an engineer is not easy, but the rewards of learning far overcome those most educational moments of heartbreak and failure. In the end, it's practically magic when we watch what was once considered impossible, taking place before our very eyes.
You did it James good job man

The sound of it starting up brought back memories of being in the field on exercises or real missions and hearing the Power Production shop starting up the -8 generators, or dash 8.
I don’t know why that one squadron had those things instead of the regular diesel generators of all the other squadrons I went to.
Rebuild, wait for perfect weather and go for 200MPH!!!! Amazing skills and driving James.
Don't give up! You've got this in the bag! You can't let England weather get in your way of being great!
