I like the new system. Great for the kids. Extra heavy duty, runs cooler and that means more reliable. Kudos to traxxas for the refined version of an awesome platform. Slash 4x4 a truck for the masses that you can personalize!!
These come with the extreme heavy duty components?! Thats the headline for me. Good move from traxxas. Interested to see what slipper and spur comes in this and if it'll take 3s.
I think these are great 4x4s. Cheap, extremely durable, and designed for 2s, pretty unlikely to overheat. The vxl combo is also geared for 2s only out of the box but absolutely no one listens to that and honestly idle the price of the vxl version is a bit underwhelming anyway. Most experienced hobbyists upgrade to bigger 3s and 4s systems anyway, so I see this as a win for everyone. New hobbyists get a cheap fast brushless 4x4, experienced hobbyists get a 4x4 for much cheaper and with better parts than before. These will fly off the shelves and honestly there’s no good reason to buy the vxl 3s powered trucks now. The new raptor r maybe after the price comes down.
The brushed slash 4x4 also used 3.89 ring and pinion gears so you’re still significantly over gearing the titan here. I’m considering buying one of these slashes since I really haven’t owned a slash in years and I’d say this is the best built one yet.

Definitely excited about this new 2l 2s brushless system 👍I want the new stampede version hopefully you will get one to review. Thanks for the awesome video 👍👍👍
But it's a tiny 2s motor and esc that's priced alongside competitors 3S trucks. That's what makes it a traxxas. Very exciting if you abhor power and speed.
@@arthopferwell less heat should mean you can gear it higher so it might shake it up quite a bit. The website also says up to 60% more speed which I have to assume has to mean when you gear way up
These cars with the lower speed compared the vxl + the extra top durability features from the vxl are going to turn into completely unbreakable rcs. The slash with xrt/raptor r body mounting is sick!
As far as the bl-2s trucks and the xl5 trucks. the new bl-2s truck also has the vxl diffs which adds the the speed discrepancy you were noticing between the 2. my old brushed rustler 4x4 had to be geared to the moon to overcome the brushed diffs ratio. would be interested to see the comparison to the actual old xl5 truck as a whole not just the power system.
One could have a hard time deciphering when Mark says "brushed" or "brushless"...seems like he says it so fast that it blends together and could make this video hard to understand for those who are relatively newer to the hobby.
I built my my Slash 4x4 from scratch, with giving it a clipless bodymounts, im running mine with a 19 tooth pin, it also has the Velineon® 3500 brushless in it.
Wait...so putting the same level of power train, that has been industry standard for the last 10 years, into a 20 year old chassis, instead of the 20 year old cheap canned brushed motors is "raising the bar"? I mean, I guess if you set a pipe on some flat 2x4's instead of on the ground, that's "technically" raised.

Is it just as smooth as the Titan 12T with initial punch from a standstill? Like does it feel like a sensored brushless motor like the Titan 12T does? What about how smooth it rolls? Is it just as smooth as a Titan 12T or the old 2 pole Velineon motor?
Well, I guess it depends on your definition of "raising the bar". A bit cheaper than a VXL, the heavy duty plastic is good and, of course, the new 2s brushless system is a great upgrade from the XL-5! Nothing really revolutionary about that and, at only 2s, certainly limits power and restricts your battery choices. Good, I guess, at reducing breakage? Sorry, not really that stoked but good review.
The way I see it, there’s absolutely no good reason to buy the 3s version of these trucks right now. Being it’s extremely common for people to throw out the vxl 3s combo for being weak and overheating on 3s. This as a whole is a great entry level RC, better than brushed, and even for experienced hobbyists lowers the price for people who were going to upgrade beyond stock electronics anyways. These basically only need a center driveshaft upgrade to handle much more powerful systems.
@@dylanwhite6539 Yep, I think you have some good points there. It could even come back to bite Traxxas in the butt and reduce sales of the 3s line? I guess, we'll see how it works out but still don't think they are "raising the bar" - just a calculated business decision 👍
@@jerryvolpini7987 personally, I predict sales of these will boom, and traxxas plans on or already has halted production of all current 3s vehicles. The hoss is the one I’m most interested in as it’s only major drawback is the driveshafts, and these maxx duty driveshafts have proven themselves worthy of the hoss motor. If I where running the company the vxl 3s 3500kv combo would’ve been put to bed a couple years ago, but now especially they should do that, come up with either a better 3s motor or just say to hell with it and give all 3s models the 540xl 2400kv motor that the hoss uses, as well as the 6780 center diff. The new raptor R is proof they have no intentions of doing that
Traxxas fans are like Aplle fans. For them everything old is revolutionary as soon as their favorite brand realeases something, no matter if other brands sell this for a long time. What bar is raised? Their own, for their own old cars? A new car on a new chassis with new never seen features would raise a bar, but a brushless system in a car older then 10 years not 🤷🏼♂️ Don't get me wrong, Traxxas might be good for someone to have fun and bash the shit out of them, but there is a reason they not comped in the racing scene.
Kinda cool! Finally something NEW. Should be good for kids compared to the 3s systems and a lot more fun than a brushed system… kinda wish they’d put a brushless 2s system in a 2wd lineup, maybe one day
Makes sense tho… put it in the platforms that are a bit easier to handle (4wd vs 2wd is less squirrely) and see how it’s received. Then if all goes well start putting it in the 2wd versions.
By the looks of it... it connects to the old mounting points so the plastic cross bars that hold the clipless mounts just go into the original holes and connect them.
So is this going to be the new Spec Slash power plant? A 20% power increase is way too much to run together with brushed systems. Does Traxxas offer the upgrade on their trade-in program yet? Sincerely, someone who still loves his Spec Slash.
Aside from the pinion gear, the Slash 4x4 VXL and Slash 4x4 XL-5 had different ring and pinion gears in the diffs for even more gear reduction. I can't tell which gearset was used in the BL-2, but I'm guessing they kept the VXL gears, so even with the XL-5 in that truck with an 11t pinion is probably faster than stock. A true XL-5 Slash 4x4 was probably running right around 20mph, so there's certainly a performance jump with the BL-2 electronics. Glad to hear temps were not an issue cause I'd love to see how the motor holds up to 3s. I saw the motor wires had a strange proprietary connector on them, but it looks like they should be able to be snipped off and have regular bullet connectors soldered on I think. Would love to see this tested as it would be sweet if you could essentially upgrade it to a full on VXL by just dropping in a different ESC, solder up some connectors, and maybe go up 1 or 2 teeth on the pinion to adjust for the KV difference. Also, I'd love to see a more in depth motor comparison. Wondering how big that motor is compared to the Velineon. Kinda looks about the same size, but I'd like to see them side by side for a better comparison. Other than that, seems like pretty sweet trucks and they'll be pretty much bullet proof out of the box. Only thing that sucks is that at $330 it still competes with proper 3s BL trucks like the Arrma 3s line or Rival MT10 which cost about the same, are just as durable, maybe more durable in some cases, and when you're tired of beating your friends 2s Slash with an equivalent truck on 2s, you can go ahead and drop in a 3s pack just to rub it in his face. Think if these trucks were $250, $260 around there, then they'd be in a price bracket to compete with comparable 1/10 brushed models, but none of those brushed models would be close to competing with these 2s trucks on performance and reliability.
wondering what your neighbors think of your rc cars? lol. my one neighbor hates when I drive up and down the road b/c their dogs go crazy...even electrics...and her husband has his own cars/trucks that he hobbies with...
So what does this mean for spec slash racing??? Since all the new 2WD brushed models are getting this new brushless system and the price bump. Will spec slash going forward be the BL2S power train or keep the old brushed system?
@@V8chump they are currently brushed in spec slash but Traxxas has discontinued the slash 2wd brushed model and the brushless model is coming out in October for $259. So going forward anyone that buys a base 2wd slash will be the new brushless system. So it’s going to cause a split in the spec slash series
My $85 car that goes 10mph faster has a metal driveshaft. It probably doesnt matter at the end of the day, and I have a deep understanding that the Traxxas cars are reliable and dont break nearly as much. With that said, why is everyone throwing a party because Taxxas has brushless motors now when UDIRC, HyperGo, etc have had them for years at under twice the cost..

@@V8chump Are you so sure? After all, their new slogan, tied directly to the BL-2S release, is, "The Future Is Brushless". With a 'statement' like that, seems to me that's a "clear indication" of the direction they plan to head. I'm not saying they'd immediately discontinue everything 'brushed', but would be more likely to...say...over the next few years, slowly replace the 'brushed' systems in all of their RTRs with 'brushless', phasing out the 'brushed' models. On one hand, the cost difference with this low-end 'brushless' system is very minimal. On the other hand, while it does have a slight performance increase, the increase is minimal. And, as for "beginners to RC", I'm guessing the BL-2S, like the VXL, probably has a "training mode", lowering the max speed by 25-50%.
hey msm, Love the vids. I have a question if this happens on your 4x4 bl-2s. So with the throttle curve its all or nothing I can't ease into the throttle with it like I can with my spec. slash but with the bl-2s 4x4 slash there's no curve, also is there a way to solve this with one of the racing modes on the esc without changing the performance.
Well it’s not replacing the brushed systems, the brushed 4x4 cars were 329 until they recently got dropped to 299 and now these new systems will be 329 so it’s just more options for a better price

And, as for "beginners to RC", I'm guessing the BL-2S, like the VXL, probably has a "training mode", lowering the max speed by 25-50%.
Might have to be my next purchase over an ARRMA Senton... Idk.. I've wanted a Senton for a really long time, but these seem epic.
Follow your first instinct and buy the Senton.
@@guymarotta2596 yeah, $330 for a 2S Slash, or $10 more for a 3S Senton, I think I'll still go with the Senton, but still a cool lineup!
It would be nice if they went with a clipless battery strap like the other cars.
Love these new. vehicles
So cool!!!!!!! Will you be testing Rlaarlo's new product? I heard there might be news on September 15th?
great video
Ive blown so many of those titan motors everytime i see one i get scared
So is this gonna be the new "brushed" set up, do they plan on going g everything brushless
hey msm, Love the vids.
Awesome luv the clip less body
Is that a fan in the motor
Wonder if the parts for a clipless body mounts will fit older slash
They will. Conversion kits and individual parts will be available. Conversion kits: 6928 for Slash 4X4 and
6929 for Slash 2WD
How long is run time with this vs brushed?
THIS
Think it will eventually replace the power system in the 2wd also?
Well it’s not replacing the brushed systems, the brushed 4x4 cars were 329 until they recently got dropped to 299 and now these new systems will be 329 so it’s just more options for a better price
Is the VXL3s being discontinued?
Good evening brother. Cool video nice review
Sounds to me like its strickly set up for racing 2 s system all ready installed I've been on a Traxxas Rally kick since you been talking about yours and now the clipless Slash 2 s out of the box is calling my name and if it's ready to race then that's more the better for me and the same price point as the brushed slash just get a light kit for it and your good to go sounds like a win to me.
When will you get the BL-2S Stampede to review? I can’t afford the Hoss and thought this might be a good alternative.
They just basically killed off the Hoss with the new Stampede 4x4
I want a 1/16 scale XO-1 type of on road car. Something to compete with WLToys and rraallo or what ever.
