The referees are trying to get their money from the odds maker, by keeping the final score close! There was no illegal forward pass, that was a touchdown!
That was a TD at the end and Steelers should have kicked the extra point but ref botched that. Calls it a TD after review and then takes the points away two minutes later? Final score should have been 18-10 Steelers.
About an hour later the NFL confirmed it was a TD. They, however, did not change the score. Despite the fact that it would not have changed the outcome of the game.
This is the game that proved the NFL can be affected by gambling. First, SD was the 10th team that season to travel from the west coast to east for a daytime game. The previous 9 failed to cover the spread - blow outs. I was a bookie at the time. This was a 4:00 start. EVERY bettor on my sheet loaded up on the Steelers. I mean everyone. We usually dumped any one sided action like that, but no one would take it. In Philly, we could always find a book to dump our heavy one way action. Not this time. Well, as you see in the video, the Steelers were NOT covering the 4.5 point spread the whole game. The books were happy. On what would be the last play of the game, SD tried the old Cal vs, Stanford lateral miracles. Unfortunately but predictably, the ball was eventually fumbled and recovered by Troy Pualamalu and run into the endzone for a TD. Pitt kicked the extra point and both teams hit the locker rooms. After a bunch of lingering around, refs were on the phone on the sidelines several times. The next thing was nuts, they brought both teams back on the field and had SD run a play and call it a game. The problem was they took the spread covering TD off the board. This shouldn't have happened, for several reasons. A. They said it was an offensive penalty, but no flags were thrown. B. Game cannot end on a defense penalty, so it wasn't that. C. Once a play is run , there is supposed to be no going back to the previous play. D. The NFL agreed , eventually, that the TD was legit. They took the points off the board , but only long enough to settle all bets. Officially , Pitt did not cover, but won the game. Then by the time the game recap & hilites we're shown , the final score was officially 18 - 10. You tell me why the hell all of that shit happened. Cause Pitt wasn't supposed to cover. It was surrea
I muffed a detail or two, but my point was made. They literally took a legal, legit TD off the board for NO reason , other than to make sure Pit did not cover the spread. This was blatantly sketchy on the part of NFL. They even put the TD as legal, so WTF?
@@thomasfulcher1276 No they didn't. I know your comment was a year ago and you'll probably never see this, but you are absolutely wrong.
