The Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals dueled in a Super Bowl for the ages that featured plenty of iconic moments. The first moment came with the Cardinals threatening to score to take the lead at half. However, linebacker James Harrison intercepted Kurt Warner's pass and took it 100 yards to give the Steelers a 17-7 halftime lead. Arizona would not quit as they battled back from a 13-point fourth quarter deficit, only to see "Big" Ben Roethlisberger drive down the field and hit Santonio Holmes in the corner of the end zone for the game winning touchdown.

Larry Fitzgerald’s slant should’ve been until Ben and Holmes ruined it.
What a great year for Pittsburgh sports it was in 2009! It starts off with the Steelers winning Super Bowl 43 and concludes with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Sidney Crosby winning the Stanley Cup! This was also the year that I graduated from grad school, so this was a totally epic year for me personally as well! 😊

Juan Ayala He was even better with the Rams. The offense he ran there was borderline revolutionary and nearly unstoppable. He was named the league MVP twice in three years, and won a championship in 99. The 99-01 Rams are often considered the greatest offense of all time, led by Warner at QB.
Had the upstart 2001 Patriots not beaten them in super bowl 36, they likely would have become a decade long dynasty. Unfortunately that super bowl loss shattered the ego's of both the Rams and Kurt Warner really badly. Warner didn't recover until much later with the Cardinals. The rest is history.

Joe J ...ehhh not really. This game didn't really get interesting til about the 4th quarter when the cardinals finally decided to show up. For the most part they looked like they didn't even belong in this game.

I was heartbroken that Kurt didn't go out a underdog champion like he came into the league. But, I was also happy that Big Ben won it for Pittsburgh. Ben never gets enough credit for this drive. One of the greatest drives in SB history. To go that far in that little time. People probably forget about it because there was time left on the clock, so some don't consider it a "last minute" drive, but that's what it was. People point out Ben's SB numbers, and while they're not great, like Madden said, it's also about WHEN

I'll tell you who all would have to agree with you: all of those people in Pittsburgh who left Superbowl parties after Arizona's last score and arrived home, turned on the television and wondered what had happened, especially in that little bit of time. There were so many stories like that: many fans saying that they missed that last amazing drive because they thought that with 2:37 left, the game was over. But after Fitzgerald scored, Ben picked up his helmet as if to say, "Okay, now let's get to work: it's time to report; just another day at the office." It seems even more amazing now and every time I watch it again."

I missed the first 2.5 quarters waiting for a helicopter, but managed to find my living quarters, drop my gear, and get to the DFAC in time to see the best parts of this game. I'm from Pittsburgh, so this win was a big morale booster. A few months later I watched the Pens get game 7 revenge over the Red Wings in a particle board shack.

Loved watching it again. No commercials , It sounds silly but, I wish they would offer complete seasons, for each team , All 16 games as a box set, edited just like this one was. And do it as far back as the 80's. or 70's. They do it with Seinfeld, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Friends, Sooo why not do the same thing with the America's number 1 sport. Wouldn't you like to watch the 1985 Bears again, or for you young people, who where too young to remember, or alive in 85.

Rewatching this the day after losing John Madden, and just a few days before what will be Big Ben's last home game at Heinz field. This was truly the golden age of football. When the production quality and technology were so great, but not to great. When players and quarterbacks were safe, but not protected by the rules. I love the game today, and it's certainly gotten safer and arguably more skilled and nuanced then it was before. But if this exact game was played today, there would be at least 2 flags on every play for holding, unnecessary roughness, roughing the passer, among others. Rip Coach. Thank you for all you did for the game, and everything you're still going to do for the game, even after you're no longer here. John Madden truly was football, and there will never be another.

I wanna just say how utterly impressed and completely blown-away I am by the performance of *Heath Miller (#83-PITT)* in the first half of this contest. If you just look at this guy's contributions to the first 10 points the Steelers scored before halftime (and just before the incredible, unbelievable, near impossible pick-6 by James Harrison (#92-PITT)) I honestly don't know how the Steelers win this game without Health Miller.
1.) First, he catches an early pass (@ 4:35), just 3 minutes into the game that set up the Steelers 1st and goal... you literally cannot run a route better than Heath Miller on that play. The ball (perfectly thrown by Roethlisbuger I might add) is already sailing his direction before he even looks back and makes a flawless catch, dragging THREE defenders to the 1 yard line. (3 points - Steelers) Unfortunately, the resulting TD run by Roethlisburger (#7 PITT) was overturned and the Steelers were held to a FG.
2.) Then, towards the end of the 1st quarter, Heath Miller comes up clutch again on what appeared to be a hopeless 3rd and 10 (@ 19:15) making a killer snag from a pressured and scrambling Roethlisburger and saves the drive with a 1st down.
3.) Then, not even 2 minutes later, and during the SAME DRIVE, he delivers another critical performance snagging ANOTHER first down (20:53).
4.) Finally, in the 2nd quarter but still part of the same offensive drive, Heath goes in motion (@23:57) and takes a brutal punishing from the Arizona Defensive line to advance a few yards and set up short yardage for Russel (#33-PITT) to run it in cleanly* on the very next play. (*as opposed to the earlier goal line attempt by Big Ben who ultimately came up a few inches short) and a clean point after attempt. (7 points - Steelers)
Heath Miller was critical in the first 10 points of the game, which ultimately set up Pittsburgh to never lose the lead in this contest, save for 2 minutes near the end, which they came back from with possibly the best catch in a Super Bowl EVER.

Santonio Holmes’ TD is one of the reasons why this is my favorite Super Bowl. He really shut down the Cardinals and whisenhunt on the cardinals victory. Here we go Steelers, Here we go!
It was, indeed, a TD. I don’t know why some think that it wasn’t. If you watch the slow motion replay, you can see one foot down and the second one hit right after. You can tell that the second was down because the laces on his cleat suddenly go downward quickly. That would only happen if his foot came to a sudden stop on the ground.
I remember having our entire Steeler fanatic family over at our house to watch the game. There was easily 30-40 people in our house. My parents had been cooking food for multiple days in preparation for the night. I’ll never forget how loud it got every time the Steelers did literally anything. I only can vividly remember the pure adrenaline rush I got watching James Harrison gallop down the sideline 100 yards. I also remember storming off to my room when the Cardinals scored before that final drive. Of course I couldn’t stay away from the TV for long. I came down when the Steelers were on 1st and Goal. I watched the entire sequence live. When Ben threw that dime to Holmes everyone went silent when the ball was in the air. It was almost like time stopped. My Dad and uncle screamed so loud my ears rang. The house shook as everyone jumped up and down in eachothers arms. A true cherished memory of mine.

The greatest Super Bowl ever played crazy, dramatic end to the first half. crazy dramatic end of the game. You cannot beat this game in terms of entertainment value, and then the Steelers being victorious. So good

I feel so bad for Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald.
Both are class acts. Warner did win one with the Rams 10 years earlier. Fitzgerald would have made a great Steeler.

I've said that for years! That was the thing about the Patriots. They got criticized sometimes for piling on, but nobody came back. When they were 20 ahead they played like they were 20 behind. We always got real conservative, stopped doing what was working all day long, played not to lose rather than to win! Drives me crazy sometimes!
@@alansach8437 yeah no doubt. Cowher was big on that too. A 10 pt lead 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter and Cowher wants to run it up the middle 3 times and have the CB's 20 yards off the ball.

The ending of this game, particularly the Santonio TD and the final strip sack, was one of the rare instances watching a sports game of any scope, where I broke down and cried because that's how close Arizona was to winning.
And unfortunately, I don’t think they’ll get this close again in our lifetime.
This was their golden opportunity, but also their ceiling.

The blocking on James Harrisons TD return was unbelievable. Just taken out 1 by 1 all the way to the end zone. One of the most clutch plays in superbowl history. This game had a few of those moments that will go down in history, this is best superbowl I can remember watching in my life time.

As a paleo-Steelers fan (circa 1955), John Madden used to be a nemesis along with his great Raiders team. Nevertheless, I just can't help but like him and to hear his voice once again. Helluva a game. Props to Warner and the Cardinals.
