Thank you Bart Simpson for this video. Every April I start to have football withdrawal. Unfortunately Covid-19 has stopped the combine & the draft. So I find myself watching old games. Hopefully this won't last too much longer. Everyone stay safe.
I'm a Steelers fan from Pittsburgh and I was in San Diego when this game was played. I watched at a Dave and Busters and was the only Steelers fan in the entire bar. I tried to keep a low profile but ended up pissing everyone off with my cheering!

Everyone remembers James Harrison's 100-yard return in the Super Bowl. What you may not realize is that the reason it happened was because of this SD touchdown at 1:47:18. NaaNee is Boldin on a virtually identical route. Harrison said in an interview that he remembered that Cardinal formation from the Charger game. (th-cam.com/video/5GEtlF6Zftg/w-d-xo.html)
Santonio Holmes was the MVP of this playoff series. In this game he woke us up after being stunned by the early SD TD with his punt return TD, In the AFC title game he made a similar play on a catch and run for a TD that we needed it that slugfest with the brutal Ravens and then in the Super Bowl he made the greatest catch to win the game in SB history.

Man I miss being younger, drinking a lot of beer, and watching that second coming of the Steel Curtain defense with Dick LeBeau as the coordinator. Sure we all recognize the greatness of Farrior and Harrison then, but a lot of credit to Foote and Woodley. Farrior/Foote and Harrison/Woodley were just a nasty linebacker corps. Aaron Smith, Hamption and Keisel, and Troy and Ryan Clark in the secondary. God to have that defense back. And something about throwing it to Hines Ward and Heath Miller seemed to make Ben throw a little better. Santonio Holmes was incredible all through the playoffs that year. Good times.
This game is important and historical. The Chargers were the first team ( besides the Patriots back in 2001) who realized how you had to play to beat the great defenses of the Steelers and Ravens of the 2000’s. You had to spread them out with multiple receivers , tight ends, and possibly running backs and get their linebackers, corners, and safety’s in the open field. You couldn’t play from under center all game with all the exotic blitz and such. The Cardinals did it in the super bowl but lost. Packers did it in 2010 and won. Patriots did it all the time. I mean there’s obviously more that goes into who wins and loses but spreading the defense out and heavy shotgun sets became prevalent at this time
Yeah the packers beat the Steelers in superbowl 45 but only because of the pick six that ben threw and that late turnover by Rashad mendenhall, if not for that the Steelers would have 7 superbowl wins ,,,,
Boy I forgot Limas Sweed dropped a long bomb in this one at 2:05:11. He dropped a similar one the following week against the Ravens in the AFC Championship game. Poor guy man, he was open on that route too.
Remember a couple of long drives and the D completely dominating the 3rd quarter. Chargers ran like 3 or 4 offensive plays (not exactly sure). Crazy performance!

The Chargers were a very good team that year and almost beat the Steelers in the regular season game, several weeks before. But the Steelers were more prepared for the rematch, healthier and more focused. And the D woke up quick after SD burned us early, with that huge TD pass. Then everything started to come together on both sides of the ball. The Steelers were destined to win it that year, as they would eventually prove.
I'm a michigan fan so I was more excited for Woodley being drafted to us more than any other player come draft day the dude was always an underrated monster
2:05:06 Limas Sweed ughh! One of the rare times the Steelers got it wrong drafting a WR. He would drop another sure TD the next week against Baltimore. Luckily it wasnt costly in the end.
It’s ok, I feel like at 1:20:20 James was ok with letting him have that one seeing how he’d get another relatively soon in an even more important moment 😏 #100Yards
I remember the Chargers and their fans going into this game talking a bunch of shit. They were red-hot and came off a big wins over Denver and Indianapolis. They jumped out to a fast lead, then Santonio ran back the punt and it was curtains. The air went out of the Chargers.
2:05:07 Sweed has been a meme for Steelers fans for years but you forget the great passes he dropped including this one since it didn’t really matter. But holy hell what’s a drop
Yeah sweed was the biggest disappointment at reciver I can remember he was horrible we have been trying to replace the great plexico for so long I thought it was gonna be sweed it wasn't than I thought we found him in Bryant we didn't than claypool after his phenomenal rookie year he gets traded I know Pickens is a little smaller but maybe he will be the guy he has great hands and looks like he has some speed here's hoping actually now that I think about it we have wanted to find that antwan Randal El type also maybe it's Calvin Austin minus the threat throwing the ball
Another year when the Steelers didn't have to see The Pats. They were gift wrapped a couple championships. In Steelers fans hearts they even know it's true. Haha Woooooo!!!!!!

Chargers will never win a Super Bowl if they keep running Zone defense against Brady
Guess that was the script that day.
@FuckingHateTwilight Dude, "pro" football is just like "pro" wrestling.
@FuckingHateTwilight He's just a salty chargers fan guarantee if they had Won this game You wouldn't hear shit about the "script"
back when the the back street boys where the chosen ones.
Good Ole days.
I used to love the PHILosophy.
I'll never forget how much ass the offense kicked in the second half. Big Ben was locked the fucked in.
The chargers look so surprised when the Steelers score like they thought they couldn't lose.
Thk u! back when Tomlin took less risks.
I would take Santonio Holmes over AB everytime.
Haha Woooooo!!!!!!
that Sproles late TD is a preview for the Arizona late TD
In 1982, the game time temperature was 40 degrees. San Diego 31 Pittsburgh 28
In 1994, the game time temperature was 60 degrees. San Diego 17 Pittsburgh 13
In 2008, the game time temperature was 26 degrees. Pittsburgh 38 San Diego 24
Can you explain the pattern I'm failing to see it
@@its12gagebruh31 When the Chargers beat Pittsburgh in the 1982 and 1994 playoffs, the weather was decent. During the 2008 playoff game it was snowing and cold. Chargers have never done well in temperatures under 30(1981 AFC Championship game windchill...-59)
@@keithclark7266 I was thinking that too but you put the game where they won in 40 degree weather and that's what confused me
@@its12gagebruh31 40 degree weather in Pittsburgh in early January 9th for a 12:30pm kickoff is warm
@@keithclark7266 to Pittsburgh standards yes but that's still cold for someone who lives in San Diego is all I'm saying 40 is still cold
Whats the song in 1:04:15 ?
R.I.P. Vincent Jackson (CTE)
Don’t worry. I’m sure that’s the last pass Limas Sweed ever drops, and I’m sure he will have a huge career.
Im just gonna watch the 3rd quarter real quick, remember seeing it live
52:50 "scifres can get them more off the kick" ball is fielded at the 20 lol
also 1:26:00 "good job of block" is clear holding but ok
