    I switched to pure software synths many years ago when it was really uncommon. I still think that way. But this is the first time since decades that I was feeling pushed to buy new hardware. Very well done!
    Polybrute is pure analog power with digital interaction, this is best of both worlds, compliments to you: it is brilliantly reported here.

    • @Mike__G
      @Mike__G 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I, too, switched to software. And a couple of very good midi controllers. Perhaps my hearing has deteriorated over the last few decades that I have been using hardware, but I cannot detect significant - if any - differences sonically between hardware and software except that software through a good audio interface is essentially noise free. This raises the question of why one would invest in hardware at all.
      One of my favourite hardware synths was the V Synth GT. However, the more I dove into its architecture, the more I concluded that it was essentially a special-purpose computer with internal audio interfaces running a stripped-down version of Unix or Linux. I could be mistaken.
      I guess that hardware has that visceral, tactile dimension. What am I missing here?

    • @furiobisotti8150
      @furiobisotti8150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Mike__G I am surprised by your answer. It's obvious. Hardware synth is sexually hotter. You can touch many sliders in seconds, you get a physical feedback. Using a mouse on a screen gives much less pleasure. On hardware you arrive at a sound you have in mind in less time.
      Obviously is a desire I will not fulfill. Hardware is extremely expensive and heavy.
      But I was expressing my pure admiration for such a beauty.
      I use live Diva, Massive X, Pigments that allow an incredible palette, but feedback is completely different.
      Yes, modern synthesizers and workstations are little embedded computers with basic operating system and some software, but this is not changing my tactile opinion. Have fun with your VSTs!

    • @Mike__G
      @Mike__G 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@furiobisotti8150 I guess the difference is that you’re either “playing” the synth or “playing with” the synth. The former is creating music. The latter is creating patches/sounds. BTW, I did keep my ARP 2600 Behringer clone. I just find it very limited compared to Reaktor, Pigments, etc. I find my Expressive E Touché helps with the sex appeal of VSTs. And the sliders/knobs on my Keylab 49 map reasonably well to the V collection synths.

    for someone who has only had this for a few days you have a very acute understanding of this synth. I've had my Matrixbrute for just short 2 years and I still feel like a novice. I have 17 synths now. And have worked 10s of thousands of hours to pay for all my stuff. I plan on getting this synth as I have always wanted it but it makes me ill to know you got yours just for promoting a non- bias review. Not dising your video which is amazing just frustrated I have to sweat blood for 75 hours a week for years to get all my acquired gear. I love Arturia

      @valecito.33 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jefgibbons Very interesting statement and courageous to share it publicly - thank you for that. I feel there is some dichotomy in this whole music gear scene that all of us are somehow a part of: In the end we all just want to create music, but this goal is clouded I feel by the desire and identification with all that gear, and the persisting thought that the setup is never complete. In our culture a sentence that I like to remember is „stop consuming, start creating“. It always seems like the own creative space is just one synth away - so I think it is important (and takes strength) to take a step back from looking outwards for things to acquire next, and instead look inwards and contemplate what it actually is that one is trying to achieve, to what extend one feels comfortable being bound by all this materialism, and whether it is shadowing the spark of the own (creative) spirit.

    Had to pause the VT just to agree with your opener. It is hugely difficult to deal with hardware, patches and historic changes. The Virus TI is a major game player because of this. I have some great synths. The ones I use most are the ones I can sync with my computer and DAW. I don’t want 3rd party editor software that becomes “too difficult to manage.” I want innovative companies to help me out. If Apple made a synth, what would it do? Well done Arturia. Most synth sounds are not polyphonic so I might overlook 6 voices for ease of use.

      @@jefgibbons The Summit is brilliant. Beautiful sounds, especially the effects. Keyboard is very nice. Great quality digital oscillators, analog filters, 16 voices. FM, Wavetable, Subtractive. It’s also multitimbral and has a great layout. No sequencer though, and it doesn’t have the morphing knob that the Polybrute has. No morphe or ribbon either. You can have dual, layered, and split patches. There are also “mediators”.

    I think we are about the same age...curious what you were when you were in the 90's. Raver? I was indie rock. It's weird how we all (who stayed making music) all kinda came together. Weird comment...admittedly. Post a funny pic of Jeff circa 2000. Good to see a TH-cam hero as a newby. Like....what weird sh*t was Gas wearing before the grey beard.

      Ha! Love this. I'd love to see Gas pre-beard! I grew up on electronic from my old cousin, got into alternative rock for a long period, studied classical in Uni, then discovered virtual instruments in the early 2000s... composed for animations for a long time, then finally got into jazz in the 2010s... and yes, I had long hair in high school!

    Why not just play the song and record it track by track without all of them steps? This way the song will have feeling and not be so digital sounding. Old school still sounds the best, sometimes people just get lost in the technology and don't utilize the feelings and emotions music can create.

    How getting sent software and even expensive hardware like the Polybrute isn't supposed to be seen as being sponsored is beyond me. I guess it's logic the 2021/2022 way smh. OF COURSE you're gonna be biased in your review, doesn't matter if it's cash or goods that you get as payment.

      Never said I wasn't "sponsored" just said they aren't paying me to make it... The video does say "Paid Promotion!" which is more than a lot of other TH-camrs do. But I can definitely change the wording to "they don't pay me cash". Always working on being as transparent as I can here.
