    I here ya bro. But lets keep it real the Industry as a whole always hated on the west coast. They had to deal with it in the 90s. Once they found a way to cut the coast out. They did it!

    • @apollosungod2819
      @apollosungod2819 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That wasn't the "industry" it was particularly some NYC labels and faction and there is old video footage from back then where some of them will mention or admit that west coast rap was killing East Coast rap on the charts by request and sales
      As well as one particular video jockey or rap show host who claimed that NYC people should not buy west coast rap and that they should support their local NYC rappers months before Biggie came out and Biggie was basically marketed and pushed no different from how old rock and roll fans complained about corporate rock aka groups that were invented by labels cause that is what Badboy Records and Biggie was basically and no hating cause look at his first album having tons of collaborations for a rapper's first album? Something was different and something was up cause back then most NYC rappers were expected to make their own first album without help or training wheels.

    Im West Coast Biased, however moving from Long Beach and gaining Knowledge of Self; I learned gang banging and Black Self-hatred that's prominent in LA has made us dependent on others/ The elders truly sold the youth out for crumbs and likeability. DJ Hed talking some truth but he's not politically savvy to explain it thoroughly. Overall though White people buy more music than everybody, so basically there's no profit in rapping for Black people in any region, especially when they don't control any mass media corporations.

      Exactly,. too many west coast artists cater to Mexicans because thats who pays their bills. Its a reason Power 106 has minimal black staff, Most Blacks have been pushed out to the inland because of that attitude.

    What’s considered trash on the west coast that the people out there are supposedly supporting? The west did have a resurgence within the last ten years or so and none of them I thought were just flat out BFI status. What’s wrong with supporting your own anyway? People always criticize NY like you only prop whoever up because they’re from NY but that’s WHAT THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO DO!!! You should support the home team if nobody else does. People are just goofy like that but whatever. Having said that, I’m from the south and when people overall say the south music is garbage I would have to agree. If there wasn’t an OVERWHELMING amount of garbage from down bottom I’d have a southern bias too possibly. We’ve got some great rappers down here but I can’t defend the wack music. J Cole is from the Carolinas but you can give that fool back to Germany where he was born.👎🏾👎🏾

    This dude said black folks on the West Coast make music for the Mexicans by his logic of black folks being the 7% in California this got to be where people like him are out of the conversation so Hip Hop. Just because you work for the corporation that has dealings with playing music doesn't mean you know what the hell you're talking about

    • @SMOOTHCUTPRODUCTION
      @SMOOTHCUTPRODUCTION  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If that's what you got from what he said, you need to be thinking about going back to school.

    • @Whiskey_Tengu
      @Whiskey_Tengu หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@SMOOTHCUTPRODUCTION doesn't even sound like he's from Cali either. I'm Mexican, grew up in Oxnard, and my wife is from Echo Park and she's Asian. If you from Cali, the likelihood you have homies that are black, white, Mexican and Asian, and probably dated someone not your race, is very high.
      In fact, maaan I met black dudes who spoke more fluent Spanish than I do. Some Asians too 😂
      Yeah there are race specific sets, and they often went at each other on some race shit, but that's a lot of what Hip Hop unified during the 90s as well, especially after Pac died. Our concert scenes were always a melting pot of races from Cali, but it was all Cali culture.

  • @Whiskey_Tengu
    @Whiskey_Tengu หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It wouldn't be LA without Mexicans, black love, brown pride in the sets again." - 2Pac
    "Fifty-n***a salute, out the Compton zoo, with the extras
    El Co's, Monte Carlos, Road Kings, and dressers
    Rip Ridaz, P-Funkers, Mexicans, they fuck with you
    Asians, they fuck with you...nobody can fuck with you" -Kendrick Lamar
    I see no cap in his explanation having been in HS when Pac died to seeing how hip hop shifted from East Coast, to West Coast to what I would describe as now a predominately Atlanta sound.
    These two different lyric samples of Pac and Kendrick, highlight the melting pot of culture that is LA, however.
    Not many places going to give you Korean/Mexican fusion bulgogi chilaquiles 😂

    • @willisbreedlove8347

      Your logic is saying 2 MCs out of the 500 in California speak of Latinos being special in California like what the hell dude or are you saying just because they're big MCs they outweigh the other 500 MCS and what they have to say. These people don't make music for Latinos they make the music for black folks Latinos just want to be part of black folks

    • @Whiskey_Tengu
      @Whiskey_Tengu หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@willisbreedlove8347 calm down bro. No one going to read 500 other MC quotes in CA about Latinos, Asians and everything in between.
      I grew up in So Cal as a teen in the 90s. Asians, Latinos and Black's were intertwined in the same struggles of the lower class communities. Latinos had their own Chicano rap that never hit mainstream in a big way, and I don't consider Cypress Hill to be Chicano rap in that vein, they were just mainstream rap.
      If you lived in So Cal, you likely had homies or dated someone who wasn't your race. So yeah, they're making music for their hood and set, but they also make music for the entire So Cal or Nor Cal communities, plenty of shoutouts to be heard. It's all in the music and it's why we all celebrated it at the concerts. Sometimes shit went down, but mostly it was a unified Cali scene. If you from here, you know.
