    Today is 2024 and your video still helping people like me. My scenario was a little bit off at the beginning, but your video helped to understand a lot of hidden secrets.
    Only one tiny thing. When you had a problem installing the angle sensor @27:00 and removed the orange tab because it didn't fit, you could just spin an internal white ring of the angle sensor, so the wide tab will match the grove on the clock spring assembly accordingly.
    Thank you. I don't know i you still read the comments from the video that you uploaded 3 years ago, but if you do, then know that your help is greatly appreciated.

    Removing the plastic clips and connectors can be one of the hardest parts of a job! Showing exactly how those things are removed makes this one of the best repair videos I've seen. I Liked and subscribed. Thank you.

    Many thanks for this video it really did cover everything you need to know if you need to change a clock spring on 3rd Gen Prius. Living in the UK my Toyota dealer wanted to charge £689 for the clock spring and another £200 to install it. I did the job for £35 thanks to eBay. It turned out that even once I changed the clock spring there was a second fault with the horns but now it's all fixed

      Agreed, only problem is I can’t find the correct part. Napa claims their $150 Part #: NOE 6653005 will fit a gen3 Prius but it doesn’t come close to having the correct wire harness for all the steering wheel controls. I called Napa and they agreed they don’t actually sell this part for the Prius and I should buy one from the dealer.
      Can you tell me where you found the correct after market clock spring that looks like the one in this awesome video?

    I went to my local Big Island Toyota and they said the price for the clock spring was $1,060. What crooks. So I watched a few videos, bought and after-market clock spring for $25 and will give this a go. (I have watched many - this was very helpful, though not the one I will use when I do the job, which has more detail about the potential trouble points.) Thanks

    24.40: Never ever ever EVER remove the sensor from the clockspring!! I followed this video precisely, and that was the end of the steering angle sensor (SAS). The VSC light (vehicle slip) came on, and couldn't be reset.
    Had to buy a second hand part clockspring+SAS, one from which the two had never been separated... and do the process again. Then it was resolved.

      @@my2daylife932 Hi thanks again! - I'd like to have a channel sometime for other reasons but I really liked how clear your presentation was in its step by step, seeing in real time without cuts in the vid (made me not have difficulty as you did with that last yellow connection-thank you) - gave me encouragement to do it on my own - I did it with a slight change - got my part replacement from a dismantling yard and thankfully its working (my horn wasn't functioning, dealer wanted 160 just to "do an electronic analysis" - was never going to do anything with the dealer anyway but asked bec I wanted to make sure the clock spring was the problem before thinking of doing anything - assumed it couldn't be anything else when the horn was functioning only when the wheel turned more than 90 degrees). The part I got was connected to the signal and wiper controls and so didn't have to take it completely out. Took a couple of hrs but done w steering wheel remover - not possible without it. Didn't remember to get the paste at the end for the nut but took for a drive and the wheel was not exactly aligned so went back and took the wheel off again and corrected successfully to proper alignment. All in all saved maybe 6-700 (mech was seeking 200-250, said something about "electronics re-setting for a different car key" - junk yard guy said no such thing is needed --- and part price range online was 350-650 --- its just a dam piece of plastic with wiring for God sakes - auto manufacturing profits at their best). Was afraid of getting after market ebay 15-50 dollar ones and didn't want to do anything to risk airbag malfunction. Took some research on forums and multiple vids and Very glad to have found your vid to see how DIY can be done. And your wife did a great job with the clear vid! Thank you again to you both!!

    I saw for many Prius chat comments that replacing the clock spring can also fix the issue with the two buttons on the steering wheel trip and display... Being unresponsive... They also used to work if I turned it 90° occasionally and then all of a sudden they don't work I'm going to try this video and see if it fixes that issue too do not have an issue with the horn or any of the other buttons yet

    The “guy” you are putting back in the new clock spring is the steering angle sensor and what if it is broken, i haven't seen anyone change it because it costs more than 300 dollars whereas the clock spring can be bought for15 bucks or so. BTW to me aligning and marking the bolt with steering is more critical than marking nut with the bolt. Have fun😀

    Question: I watched this TH-cam while I was replacing my clockspring in my 2013 prius. I started with no horn, airbag warning light lit all the time and all buttons in the steering wheel not working. After I installed the new clockspring the first day I drove the car everything works perfect. The next day everything works except that the airbag light stay lit. I reset the harness in the airbag itself ( i.e. red, black cables and ground at the back of the airbag) and tried it again. Again, everything works but the airbag warning light stayed lit. What can I do next to get rid of that airbag warning light to turn off? Thank you in advance.

      @Alex D Welcome to MY2DAYLIFE! When i replaced my clock spring the first thing i did was unplug the hybrid battery and the 12v battery just to make sure i don't trip any codes. Try unplugging your clock spring with out any power to your car for about 10 minutes then plug everything back in hopefully that will reset your cumputer and solve your problem, if not check your fuses and relays. Best of luck! 👍

    Thank you. Your video ran about 45 minutes. I am guessing that the project actually took more like 2 hours(?). What is the function of the part you had to use from the old Clock Spring?
    I am not mechanically adept but a relative is and he is willing to do the job for me.
    I have a 2010 Prius. More than five years ago the Clock Spring Assembly was destroyed and an incompetent independent mechanic replaced it incorrectly. I have done without cruise control ever since then.
    This week the audio/visual system went bonkers spontaneously switching sources (1 AM band, 2 FM bands, 3 Satellite bands, multiple CDs, Blue Tooth, Navigation system, On/Off, Etc) when I turn the steering wheel. The dealer says that replacing the Clock Spring will cost more than $1,100 for parts & labor. That assumes that my diagnosis is correct. Given the cost of the after market part and the value of our time, I can afford to be wrong.
    Again, thanks for starting us to think outside the box.

      @James lang Welcome to MY2DAYLIFE! A bad clock spring will definitely act very weirdly. I have heard of different issues with this part. The other part I'm using from the existing clock spring controls other functions on the steering wheel not to sure exactly what it's called. Thanks for watching! 👍

    So, Amazon has this part, but it shows that it fits 2004-2009 Prius models. It looks exactly the same as the one you got. Do you think it would still fit my 2010 Prius?

      @my2daylife932  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Marco Almeida ▪︎ Welcome to MY2DAYLIFE! This definitely sounds like the clock spring does need to be replaced but before you do, check your fuses. It might be that some fuses are burnt out, if fuses all check out then it's going to be the clock spring. Best of luck! 👍

    YEAH HOW DID YOU REMOVE C1231 CODE AFTER REPLACING CLOCK SPRING?
    I HAVE SCAN TOOL NO LUCK IN ERASING CODE

    • @my2daylife932
      @my2daylife932  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @21boxhead, I didn't have a code when i replaced my clock spring. The reason I replaced it was because my horn wasn't working. For C1231 you would have to do a abs scan and then under the abs scan you could erase it. All obd2+ABS codes on the 2010 Toyota prius are permanent even after erasing it, meaning that you have to cycle the cumputer by driving the car until the cumputer receives the correct information showing that the sensor got replaced/repaired. Then the code will no longer be a permanent code. Best of luck! 👍

    Napa sold me the wrong part which led me out of the original alignment as shown at 28:24. I rotated the inner ring just about 10 degrees which led to a traction control light. Fortunately resetting this light looks straightforward th-cam.com/video/ohkuvZNT2f0/w-d-xo.html
