Minor correction; DirectDraw and DirectX8\9 are not the same things. DirectDraw is the 2D API of DirectX ( which was actually removed from DirectX from 8+, and instead packaged with DirectGraphics ). So error here has nothing to do with DirectX 8\9 games, but rather any game that relies on DirectDraw for their 2D drawing ( which is most games older than DirectX 9 ).
Sims 2 on origin? I'm currently having issues where I click to play and it goes like it's going to load but then nothing happens. When I go task management to close out of it, it says not responding. I really hope this works. I did get some massive upgrades to my pc recently so it's probably that but it sucks as sims 2 is my favourite. Hope this video works for me as it did for you!

I don't know why this is happening, check the net but it looks like I'm the only one having this problem lol.
