    Ang author ng lyrics ay “anonymous Jesuit father”. Si Fr. Hontiveros kaya iyon?

      Highly unlikely. "Simbang Gabi" was published in 1963; The Second Vatican Council ended in 1965, and it was only after that when Fr. Honti started writing songs (as a result of the Vatican II innovations). So it's likely that the anonymous Jesuit priest who wrote the text that LSP has set lived many years earlier, probably even as far back as the Spanish era.

      @@paolobarazon I doubt na ang origins ng song goes as far back sa Spanish era given na masyadong contemporary for the 1960s ang secular references kagaya ng “puto't suman”. May suspetsa ako sa gamit ng salitang “langkay-langkay” to refer sa kumpol ng tao. Iba ang meaning ng langkay para sa isang taga-Panay na si Fr. Hontiveros (nalaman ko recently na mas musical composition ang ginawa niya kaysa magsulat ng lyrics). Maraming pwedeng candidates eh. I don't even know kung nasulat ever si Fr. de la Costa sa Tagalog.
