Thanks! Yeah these pickups sound pretty good for the heavies. I definitely like them better than the 81/85 or 81/60 set. Still haven’t tried Fishman Moderns, but so far these have been the only active humbuckers I have liked the sound/feel of.
Love the new EC1000s, I’m seeing some of them stocked with Fishman Fluences. I just got the Jake Bowen sig Ibanez guitar, also has the Evertune upgrade and Gotoh locking tuners. It’s my current favorite.
The answer to that question probably depends on who you ask and what guitar specifically. Traditionally, a Japanese guitar will have better quality control, but in recent times, I’ve played guitars from Indonesia that are pretty much flawless, so it probably varies from guitar to guitar. Specs also sometimes vary with the Japanese version getting the nicer hardware most of the time. These LTDs are interesting in that the LTD versions have stainless steel frets, but as of right now the ESP Japanese equivalent still has nickel frets.
The EMG 57&66 are probably the best EMG pickups for Blues and Metal and everything between. I managed to finally get this model, it’s arriving in a couple of days. It’s going to be my first time using active pickups, but if they don’t sound as good as my Seymour Duncans in my current guitar I might go ahead and buy the pair you put in this guitar.
Congratulations! I hope you enjoy it once it gets there. A lot of people really love the way EMG’s sound, but it is definitely its own type of sound. You might end up really digging the stock pickups, especially if you like metal tones.
Thanks! I tried to film the pickup swap but A. Could not get a great camera angle and B. It took me WAY longer than it should’ve given how easy EMG’s solderless system is. As a result, I scrapped that footage so the video was watchable lol.

EMG has a lot of wiring diagrams on their website and since everything is just plugs and terminals, it’s easy to fix if you end up plugging something in to the wrong spot.
At first, I felt the same way regarding the locking tuners, but I think they don't put them on Evertune equipped guitars because if you are someone who goes back and forth between the bending and non-bending zones, you're going to need some string windings to pull it off. As you know, the tuners aren't "tuners" on an Evertune guitar.
I totally understand what you mean and that makes sense! Thankfully, even with the shorter “wrap” you get with locking tuners, I still have enough to maneuver between zones and at least a full step up and down. I would imagine that length/wraps would be handy if you used the same guitar for multiple tunings, since that’d give more wiggle room when getting the guitar in the proper zone when downtuning. Thanks for watching and for your insight!
E-IIs have locking, also the ltd ec1000t ctm and many te1000s - all evertune. Still facilitates quicker string changes. Do strings really slip that much back and forth?
I haven’t had issues with it personally since replying to the comment. Locking tuners are the way to go in pretty much every situation as far as I’m concerned. I love the convenience.
Thank you so much for watching and for your comments. The tuners are the SG 301 MGT tuners. On my guitar they dropped right in, but someone else commented on the video saying the screw holes on their LTD didn’t line up perfectly, so be careful.
I have to same guitar and upgraded to grover 502ck locking tuners. I'm still debating what pickups to go with, im leaning towards fluence tosin set just so se what they have going for them.
I have the Fluence Abasis, and they are very versatile. They are however voiced with clean tones in mind, so dialing in great high gain tones (which you absolutely can) is quite different from Fluence Moderns, EMGs, etc. I’ve had mine for a few months, and I’m still tweaking and testing to perfect the tone for each voicing.
Thanks! I remember needing to look up a wiring diagram, and honestly I may have managed to mess something up because there’s a little bit of bleed from the non-selected pickup, but the actual process of wiring it up is easy thanks to the EMG quick connect system.
I also plan on putting locking tuners on my LTD EC 1000 with Evertune bridge. Don't know if it's really necessary, but it's way easier to put new strings on. How's your LTD holding up to date? Mine will arrive next week - the dark brown sunburst with quilted maple top. I hope there aren't uneven frets ar other issues.
Thanks for watching! Mine is still pretty solid and the evertune works great. This is still my go to guitar for drop c metal and metalcore stuff, but I am strongly considering switching to passive pickups just because I definitely greatly prefer them over active. Either that, or I may finally try Fluence humbuckers, but I’m leaning more towards passive right now
I'm not surprised LTD's 1000 series Evertune models don't come with locking tuners as by design an Evertune system keeps tuning in check. Of course, locking tuners would be really useful for quick string changes at the expense of minor neck dive, maybe? What I am actually surprised about is them soldering.. EMG pickups? What's that all about? Anyway love these mods, hoping to hear more original riffage from you!
Thank you very much! Thankfully, there isn’t really any neck dive as the guitar is pretty well balanced even after the switch to locking tuners. My theory about the soldering is that the factory probably orders just the pickups themselves in bulk and does the wiring without the harnesses, instead using switches and pots they have in house. My guess is that helps save on costs.
These tuners are the SG301-04 MGT Magnum Lock TRAD Locking Tuners. Hope it helps and you end up liking them if thats what you go with. How’re you liking the guitar?
@@SethSilvaMusic Thank you for the details! I love this guitar. EMGs are indeed a bit dry/cold sounding, but I got used to them. The primary factor was the Evertune bridge, as my first guitar was an entry-level Ibanez with Floyd rose, which was a nightmare to tune and stay in tune. You should post more videos with this guitar :)
Glad to hear you love the guitar! Yeah, I know the hassle of floating bridges. I made that same mistake early on of getting a guitar with one because it looked cool, but that was definitely not ideal for someone barely getting started on the guitar. I have a few videos in the pipeline that I have planned, but I’ll definitely try to incorporate this guitar in some more in the future.
Congratulations! I hope you enjoy it. I definitely want another Eclipse. I’m hoping they bring the stainless steel frets over to the E2 range in the future. Also, thanks for watching and subscribing! It really means a lot!
@@SethSilvaMusic Dude, you have like 7% subs vs views on this content. The least I could do was throw you a sub. It's good content. Plus, cool T-shirt. I have the Juggernaut Bulb in Laguna Blue.
I really appreciate you doing/saying that. And that’s awesome! I have the Holcomb PRS, but I want to get Misha’s Jackson and Jake’s Ibanez just to have the whole set. The Laguna Blue is a great color. Is it the earlier runs with the ebony fretboard or the newer ones with the roasted maple neck/fretboard?
@@SethSilvaMusic I had the Indonesian one, liked it a lot, but saw the places where costs had been cut too much. I found a "Bulb", which is in earlier run, ebony fretboard, and the "P" with three dots inlay at the 12th fret, Bulb engraving on the pup covers, and all the groovy case swag. I got it from at Wild West Guitars in Pasadena, at a great pre-loved price in as new condition. The guys there were fantastic and made it a sweet experience. It's a great example of how the more expensive version can be totally worth the higher price tag.
That’s awesome that you got a good deal on it. Those are definitely really cool and its good to hear yours is worth it. I definitely want one for myself eventually.
Any thoughts on the esp ltd ec-1000t evertune? Comes with locking tuners and fishman classics. Im guessing you probably would not need to upgrade that one
Good question! In theory, yeah, you wouldn’t need to really upgrade that one. I’ve never tried Fishman humbuckers, but I do like the way they sound in most of the demos I hear. I love single cuts, so I’d definitely love to get my hands on one, but the one thing I think I prefer about the version I have here is the fact that it isn’t a full thickness body and has the tummy cut. Just makes it a little more comfortable when playing than my Les Pauls.
Ok thanks! I just bought the same guitar and tuners but the holes for the screws are off by a few mm so they wont fit. Also tried the adapter plates from graph tech but they also did not match the old ones. Seems like they used some weird grover tuners on my guitar 😮
That is really weird. I’m sorry that’s happening to you. On mine the holes lined up perfectly. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t on any other guitar like this. Are the screw holes on both tuners in the middle of the tuner on both the Grovers and the Gotohs? I know both brands make tuners where the actual hole to screw them in is slightly off center, but I assumed the model numbers would be different as a result. I even put a set of these Gotohs on a Les Paul and they dropped right in without issue as well. Another good option would be Hipshot tuners since they come with a universal mounting plate so theres no need to drill. I have some of those on other guitars and they work great.
Hi Seth, I want to say that this video is a really, really good work. Thanks to you I'm going to do something similar with my EC-1000 VB Duncan. However, could you please tell me which model of the Gotoh tuners have you used for your EC-1000? One of the Magnum Lock sets? But which one? Thank you once again for this amazing upgrading review.
Thank you so much! I used the Gotoh SG301-04 MGT Locking set. I will warn you though, I’ve had another person comment that the screw holes on their guitar did not line up perfectly with the Gotohs, even though it was the exact same model guitar and tuners. Sounds like there might be some slight differences from guitar to guitar or tuner to tuner.
@@SethSilvaMusic thank you so much for your reply and for the warning. Luckily, my guitar has LTD locking tuners, which do not use screws for keeping them in place, so I think it should be fine. 🙂Thank you once again and I will let you know after I will finish my "mod". ;-)
@@abiadairobbi8791 Hello there! My tuners are definitely the MG-T ones. The HAP tuners have height adjustable posts, whereas mine are not adjustable and have the thumbwheel locking mechanism on the back.
@@SethSilvaMusic I am patiently waiting for more E-II's from ESP to feature the Evertune system. Only ONE E-II has it for now. There are a few LTD's that have it but I am going to wait on ESP Japan. My E-II Horizon is perfect save for an Evertune.
Yeah it would be cool to see more Evertune equipped guitars from the E-II line, and it’d be double cool if they also start to incorporate stainless steel frets as well
Great video! Had a quick question about the pickups as I've just installed a set of these pickups myself. Do you find the neck pickup to be much louder than the bridge side even after adjusting the heights? I've set my neck side as low as it will go in the available cavity and its still louder than bridge
Thank you! I just played the guitar again to confirm, but mine are actually pretty well balanced output wise. Is it just a difference in output or does the bridge sound kind of anemic? It’s possible there’s a weird connection somewhere causing the output difference. If you have the TW version, maybe for some reason the bridge is permanently split?
Thanks for checking. It's not only louder, it's much fuller and big sounding. As for the bridge possibly being in single coil mode, I can confirm it's not that as I can split them now to get the single coil sound. I may reach out to EMG. Still, thanks again for checking and for this video!
Yeah definitely reach out to EMG or whoever the dealer was. Maybe there’s just a bad wire in the prewired kit that’s causing some grief. I hope you get it figured out!
Hi. Great video. When you replaced the tuners, did you need to get a specific size or anything like that? I'd like to change mine and I don't want to make any holes. Thank you very much.
Thanks for watching. I didn’t special order or anything like that for the tuners. I just found a pair of locking Gotoh’s that had the screw placement the same as the stock tuners. Some people have left comments saying that the screw holes weren’t perfectly lined up when they got their replacements, but on mine they just dropped right in with no issue. These were just the Gotoh SG301 locking, but there may be other brands that fit without issue too.
Hey, I appreciate this is an older video, I’m considering getting those same pickups to put in an old EC1000. Just wanted to ask, did you have any issues with the extra height of the TW pickups? I concerned they might be too tall
I do vaguely remember having the same concern once I took the original bridge pickup out, but everything fit in the guitar without too much fuss. I may have had to use the screws that came on the guitar itself rather than the ones in the EMG box, but at this point I don’t remember. I definitely would have mentioned something in the video if it was really involved. That said, people on here have reported some variability in the tuner mounting holes, so it’s possible there’s variability in body depth/clearance for pickups as well.
Do you know the exact model of Gotoh's you purchased? I want to do the same but I see several different models that look similar. Great videos, Cheers!
Question: Do you find that the sensitivity is somewhat lost when you bend notes? I have the same exact model and I swear the Evertune bridge reduces bend-sensitivity.
That’s awesome you have the same model! How are you liking it? From my understanding, with the Evertune, bend sensitivity is really determined by adjusting the tuners at the headstock, so if it doesn’t feel sensitive enough, try “tuning up” at the headstock until you reach what they call the “bend stop point”. That said, even when I have the guitar at the bend stop point, I personally feel like bends are just a little less sensitive, but it really isn’t so bad for me since I don’t bend all the time anyway.
@@SethSilvaMusic Well it definitely stays in tune perfectly but I bend all the time and it does seem a little less sensitive. It's the perfect non-tremelo metal guitar though. 🎸 Neck is fantastic.
Gotcha. I need to mess around with it a little more for sure to test bending again, but honestly I love the fact that I just pick the guitar up and its already in tune without me touching anything
Just a random lick I came up with for the video, as is just about everything else you hear in my videos unless otherwise specified. Thanks for watching!
The studio monitors are Yamaha HS8, and all the guitar is recorded from an Axe Fx 3 recorded straight into Logic Pro via usb. No software on the guitar tones.
Good question! The strap buttons on this are pretty wide, so it stays on a strap without much of an issue so I never really felt the need personally. Then again, I’m also not in a situation where I’m playing live shows, which is where I think strap locks are more necessary.
@@SethSilvaMusic Thanks for the insight! Also I forgot to ask in my original comment, but do you have the exact model of the gotoh locking tuners that you installed? I've been looking to replace my grover tuners (mine's the same ec-1000 evertune model) but wasn't able to find out what exact dimensions would fir into the slots. Happy New Year btw! :)
I thought about it, but I don’t have the necessary materials to solder, and honestly even if I did, I’m not very good at soldering. I definitely want to try the Moderns and the other Fluence humbuckers someday though.
@@SethSilvaMusic I agree. The install is quite tricky. I love this guitar but will probably go with the EC1000S due to the dislike of those EMG pickups. It’s the gloss black with the Fishman Moderns. Best pickups I’ve played. Cool channel! Keep up cool content! 🤘🏼
Hi Seth. First question, did you change the pickups by yourself. And second question, did you had some troubles with the evertune system to change them? I wanna buy the ltd ec-1000 evertune and i wanna change the pickups, but i guess with the evertune system, inside the guitar, it should be not easy.
Hello! Yes I did change the pickups myself, but because I installed a new set of EMG’s, the installation was completely solder free, so it was pretty straightforward thankfully. For your second question, the only thing about the Evertune you have to consider in regards to wiring is where the ground wire attached to the bridge, but this is no different from a tremolo style bridge. Otherwise, the Evertune and the electronics are in completely different cavities, so the Evertune doesn’t really affect the wiring at all. I hope that helps!
I actually haven’t used any cleaners personally on mine. I can tell you for sure to avoid anything thats a polish if your guitar also has a satin finish like mine. For satin, you want a straight up cleaner, since a polish will make the finish glossy. I haven’t tried it myself, but Music Nomad’s Guitar Detailer seems like a good cleaner for satin since there’s no polish and it’s purely for cleaning. Satin will naturally get glossy over time just from handling, so I personally tend to just let it be for the most part.
Great video and amazing upgrades! Those EMG 57/66 is my favourite pickups also. Just wondering that is the locking tuners really worth it with evertune bridge if it hold the tuning no matter if the guitar has locking tuners or not? Is it just a preference which makes it easier to change strings to? I see it littlebit unnecessary thinking about the tuning stability which i think its flawless even without locking tuners.
Thank you! For me, the locking tuners are absolutely worth it just for the time savings when changing strings, but having an additional layer of stability is always good too in my opinion. Its definitely not necessary with an Evertune in theory. Its just one of those things that I put on all my guitars if they don’t have them already.
@@SethSilvaMusic Thanks for the answer. Couldnt even think myself either putting a new strings on if the guitar wouldnt have locking tuners after buying ESP E-II Horizon 😅
I dig that title. Good knee slapper for those in the know. This one’s working title has been “Brucie”, but if I get my hands on the Killswitch Engage Fishman set to demo, ‘These Fire Birds’ may just have to be the title for whatever demo track I write. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for asking! Its just something I came up with for this video. All the demo tracks/songs/riffs are just things I make up for these videos, at least so far. I try to make sure its all original music in these demos.
Great video and playing! Good call on switching to the 57/66 set. Major upgrade. How do you think this guitar compares to a regular Ec1000? I had the see thru black version but sold it because it was very bottom heavy and was a little thicker than my other eclipse guitars. But I'm very interested in this model!
Thank you! Its been a while since I’ve played any of the other EC-1000s, so I can’t really comment accurately on the differences feel-wise. Feature-wise, I personally much prefer the 2021 line, especially the stainless steel frets. In regards to yours being bottom heavy, mine seems to be fairly balanced, but I haven’t played any other newer EC-1000s to confirm whether or not that’s the case across the board.
These guitars most likely don’t have locking tuners because that’s what the evertune is for. Unless you’re into the ease of stringing the locking tuners stability isn’t needed using evertune.
Totally fair and I’m sure thats their justification as well. Even still, an additional layer of stability is always good in my opinion even if its a little redundant. Plus, I can’t really imagine it would inflate the cost all that much. At minimum, the Evertune now doesn’t really have to compensate for the string unwrapping from the post (at least in theory). Thanks for watching!
Satin will develop a shine over time, but in my opinion it doesn’t look bad. How fast it happens depends largely on how oily your skin is. I personally haven’t done anything special to clean my satin guitars. If I notice theres a bit of grime, i’ll use a little bit of water on a microfiber towel and just gently wipe it away. Music Nomad also has their Guitar Detailer, which is just a light cleaner with no polish, so that will help keep the finish clean, but I haven’t tried it myself. I have used a lot of their other products though and really like them.
Gold hardware will wear down over time and start to look kind of flat. Not necessarily chrome but more like worn nickel. It’s usually just a thin gold plating so that wears off first revealing the metal underneath

It’s looks like my EC 1000 fluence but in satin finish, really nice. Making me think about stripping the nitro off of mine
Great video, the guitar sounds amazing! Can I ask which model of Gotoh tuners you got? There are a lot of options on their website...
How’re you liking the guitar and the Grovers? I thought about trying a set of Fishmans my self, but I’m not the best at soldering.
Thanks for the video! Nice tones! Was it easy to only use ONE tone pot with this setup? Ordered the same for my ESP today.
Thanks! I remember needing to look up a wiring diagram, and honestly I may have managed to mess something up because there’s a little bit of bleed from the non-selected pickup, but the actual process of wiring it up is easy thanks to the EMG quick connect system.
Very cool guitar I would love to have one like that cool upgrades to 🆒🤘
I also plan on putting locking tuners on my LTD EC 1000 with Evertune bridge.
Either that, or I may finally try Fluence humbuckers, but I’m leaning more towards passive right now
what tuners model did u use to replace ur locking tuners
Which Gotoh Locking tuners model did you bought? I have the same guitar and I need to update them asap. Stock ones are driving me crazy!
How'd you install the evertune bridge? I typed "how install evertune ec-1000" and it lead me here. The Internet is stupid.
I didn’t install the Evertune. This guitar ships with the Evertune factory-installed.
Good upgrade.
I just put a deposit on an E2 Eclipse in Granite Sparkle so I should get that pup set.
@@SethSilvaMusic
Do you remember what model of gotoh locking tuners you bought for this guitar? Gotoh SG301-04?
That is correct. SG301-04 MGT is what they were listed as when I bought them.
🙂Thank you once again and I will let you know after I will finish my "mod". ;-)
@@SethSilvaMusic are you sure it's MG-T one? Because i ordered that but it's too short than the stocks one. I think the roght one is HAP type
@@abiadairobbi8791 Hello there! My tuners are definitely the MG-T ones. The HAP tuners have height adjustable posts, whereas mine are not adjustable and have the thumbwheel locking mechanism on the back.
At 7:06 that sounds amazing
Thanks David! I appreciate it and I’m glad you liked it!
Good stuff!
Thank you! I appreciate it.
I have the 57/66 combo in my Horizon EII. I agree that they sound much better than the old 81/60.
That’s awesome! I don’t have much experience with the Horizon or the EII line. How’re you liking yours?
Thanks for watching btw!
@@SethSilvaMusic My E II Horizon is my first ESP. It has the best factory fret job I have ever seen in my life.
That’s awesome! One of these days I’m going to have to try and E II
@@SethSilvaMusic Thanks!
@@SethSilvaMusic I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! The tuners are the SG301-04 MGT Magnum Lock TRAD Locking Tuners. At least, thats how they were listed on Reverb when I got them.
Great, thanks
8:32 what is this? Iron Maiden
?
Just a random lick I came up with for the video, as is just about everything else you hear in my videos unless otherwise specified. Thanks for watching!
@@SethSilvaMusic ok, another question :) What monitors have you and what software ? :D
The studio monitors are Yamaha HS8, and all the guitar is recorded from an Axe Fx 3 recorded straight into Logic Pro via usb. No software on the guitar tones.
Hey dude cool video! What model gotoh locking tuners did you use? Have the same guitar and thinking about doing the same thing. Thanks!
Thank you! They are the Gotoh SG301-04 MGT Magnum Lock TRAD Locking Tuners. How’re you enjoying your guitar?
@@SethSilvaMusic thanks! The guitar is great. Might upgrade the pickups to fishmans but for now it's killer.
No problem at all. If you go with the Fishmans, let me know what you think. Never tried their humbuckers before, but the demos on YT sound good
What model Locking Tuners did you order?
Hello! These are the Gotoh SG301-04 MGT Magnum Lock TRAD Locking Tuners. Thanks for watching!
Did you consider replacing the strap buttons with schaller locks (or maybe something else)? Or the ones that come installed with it are good enough?
Sure thing! They were the Gotoh SG 301-04 MGT Magnum Locking Tuners
@@SethSilvaMusic Awesome! Again thanks a bunch! :)
Did you ever consider dropping in some Fishman Modern Humbuckers?
I thought about it, but I don’t have the necessary materials to solder, and honestly even if I did, I’m not very good at soldering. I definitely want to try the Moderns and the other Fluence humbuckers someday though.
@@SethSilvaMusic I agree. The install is quite tricky. I love this guitar but will probably go with the EC1000S due to the dislike of those EMG pickups. It’s the gloss black with the Fishman Moderns. Best pickups I’ve played. Cool channel! Keep up cool content! 🤘🏼
Thank you very much!
@@SethSilvaMusic thanks a lot Seth
Just found you buddy. Subscribed.
Thank you so much!
What specific model Gotoh tuners did you get that were a drop in replacement?
I got the Gotoh SG-301-04 MGT Magnum-Lock TRAD set with keystone buttons. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
Fairfarren how incredibly helpful. Thank you.
Guitar looks great! What do you use to clean the fretboard?
Thanks! I use Music Nomad F-One Oil for my fretboards and it works great.
@@SethSilvaMusic thanks. I just bought a very similar LTD. Any other recommendations in terms of cleaners or polishes?
I actually haven’t used any cleaners personally on mine. I can tell you for sure to avoid anything thats a polish if your guitar also has a satin finish like mine. For satin, you want a straight up cleaner, since a polish will make the finish glossy. I haven’t tried it myself, but Music Nomad’s Guitar Detailer seems like a good cleaner for satin since there’s no polish and it’s purely for cleaning. Satin will naturally get glossy over time just from handling, so I personally tend to just let it be for the most part.
@@SethSilvaMusic nice, thanks. Last question what brand of strings did you put on?
I used D’addario NYXL’s. The gauge was 11-52 since I’m tuning to drop C.
The demo track should be called 'These Fire Birds'
Late 2000's melodic Metalcore vibes at max.
I dig that title. Good knee slapper for those in the know. This one’s working title has been “Brucie”, but if I get my hands on the Killswitch Engage Fishman set to demo, ‘These Fire Birds’ may just have to be the title for whatever demo track I write.
Thanks for watching!
@@SethSilvaMusic Other possibles titles:
Roads of Sharing
Tempo from With Inn
In dew Tide
The End Of Hat 8
What song are you playing?
The first one…
@@SethSilvaMusic thank you for the reply! It's good to know the weight is evenly distributed on these new models.
How do you care your satin guitar? People saying satin guitars shines over time and looks bad.
@@SethSilvaMusic thank you for answering. I’m wondering one more thing. Will it gold hardwares wearing down and starting chrome look ? Or rusting?
Gold hardware will wear down over time and start to look kind of flat. Not necessarily chrome but more like worn nickel. It’s usually just a thin gold plating so that wears off first revealing the metal underneath
