@@iruns1246 just cause computers can do it doesn’t mean that the people who cam don’t deserve the recognition for their skills. Some things simply require a human touch for a specific feeling, which is perfect for Cartoon Saloon (studio who made Wolfwalkers). They don’t take shortcuts by just rendering the scene with a computer.

It's like how a films like The Dark Knight or Mad Max: Fury Road used tons of clever practical effects are compared to films that use too much CGI like the Hobbit trilogy or Star Wars prequel trilogy. The director could go the extra mile and go practical, or give it to the CGI artists to take care of it. Or if you're really clever (Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance comes to mind), use them both to compliment one another.

I have seen her animated shorts and the hours of work are spectacular. Mey Wolwalkers opens many thoughts, shocks you as Robyn leaves her father behind and helps those who are really in danger

Sony owns the film rights to Spidey, but the characters are owned by Marvel (which is owned by Disney).
People keep assuming Sony fully owns the characters, when it’s just the movies they own. Disney owns everything else, so they still get a portion of the revenue from movies not produced by Marvel Studios.

Yeah... Also the way they say "something a computer alone wouldn't be able to do". Well, a computer wouldn't be able to do ANYTHING alone. Every little part of a computed animated movie ALSO has to be made by artists. The sculpting, the retopology, the UV making, the rigging, the texture paint, the materials, and THEN the animation, the shading, color correction, pós production and all... It's SO much work, and the computer is just a tool to let us navigate this digital 3D world.
I love 2D animation and I hate that it was left behind for so many years, I hope it comes back with full strenght.
But we can't pretend 3D animation is worthless and "THAT much easier to do" either...

You made a mistake here - Most animations are animated on 2s or even 3s, not on 1s...
The movie itself has 24 frames per second, yes....and 1s,2s and 3s means, how many drawings were used in those 24 frames...
Animating on 1s means that there are 24 drawings for 24 frames...It's often very expensive and time consuming, and also - animating on ones doesn't equal GOOD animation... There was one movie that used animating on 1s a lot - "Akira" - But akira was mostly animated on 2s - there were just more scenes that used 1s...
Animating on 2s means that for 24 frames, the animators used 12 drawings held for 2 frames each...And this is what we are seeing on the right - It's not 24 fps...The animation on the right is animated on 2s, so basically, there are 12 drawings shown for 2 frames - You all can check this out, by looking at the video frame by frame...
Animating on 3s means that for 24 frames, they used 8 drawings held for 3 frames each - It is mostly used in anime.

    • @tygra2886
      @tygra2886 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

@@linusaranha6703 I often see that people don't understand that in 2D animation, frame rate kinda doesn't matter...
They think that the frame rate in 2D animations is this same thing as FPS in Video games or Frame rate in live-action movies...
This video isn't that triggering...Is misleading, yes, but it is not "harmful"...
What triggers me the most, are those Videos, in which they interpolated 2D Animations, using Dain-app...
And people in the comments there - They don't know ANYTHING about 2D animation, but they are FIRST to talk BS about how 2D animation should be done...
Few comments from the comments section of "What Mulan (1998) would look like in 60fps", to show, what i am talking about
When i saw the comments there...I literally wanted to find those people and punch them in the face, and you will understand why in a moment:
_" Yeah, animated and live action movies are usually made around 24-25 fps, because it looks not too smooth, not too blurry. It's how our eyes see real life"_
_"that's really stupid reasoning. The 24 frame format is over a century old and there's literally no need for it to exist anymore. You've just been conditioned to thinking that movies should be in 24fps and that's why you don't like the better 60fps format."_
_"that is just because we are used to having games be 60 fps. at the end of the day, 60fps is better."_
_"It's all about convention though - we've been conditioned to expect 24fps. Should we start towards animation or film in general being 60fps, that film convention will eventually stick and we (or future generations more likely) wouldn't find it so jarring. "_
_" 60 fps could be better if directed correctly."_ (For context, this was an answer to someone's comment, in which he/she explained that animator choose timing for animations and that's why animation interpolated to 60 fps looks bad)
_"You're completely wrong about 3D, It clearly needs a higher framerate like 48,50,60,120"_ (this was in answer to AN ANIMATOR, who said that 24 FPS is enough for 3D animation)
_"Except no. The movie was animated at the frame rate it was because the artists have to draw every frame. The more fps, the more work. The interpolation that the ai uses looks fantastic and I would pay to see some of the stunning work that the animators did ramped up to 60 fps."_
_"I don't think they lower the FPS in fight scenes, they increase the shutter speed so that there's less motion blur and it looks more "raw" (I guess is a way of saying it)."_
Ok, enough comments, because just reading them makes me angry...
The worst types of comments are comments like "HURR DURR, 24 FPS HAS 100 Years and it is old, so we should use 60 fps instead, I played VIDEO GAME AND IT LOOKED GREAT"
And the second worst type of comments are comments from people, who don't understand how 2D animation works, but they are first to explain to others, even the professional animators, how their animations should be done.

seeing how much work was put into this film, how they made full 3d modeled backdrops that we never even SEE just to get it right- that takes skill and guts.
