I still have my issued Ontario 18" machete 1985, I use it still to this day. I sharpened mine to a 25 degree angle on a sharpening stone. When big limbs fall from our maple trees after a storm it's machete time! Best tool for the money.
Tramontina are light machete that are thin blade, this one? I just received my Ontario 18 and damn it's thick for a machete and heavy too! Need to workout for that Jason Voorhees physique 😂. Tramontina are flexible too not the Ontario is like a very rigid blade not flexible at all so maybe more damage in combat ?
One of the best machetes ever made and you got a hell of a deal . Somebody probably sells the original green plastic sheath . I was issued this machete in 1971 and rarely used it . My advice = Don't make chopping noises in the jungle in SE Asia when there are small brown people with an SKS or AK who want to kill you . Thanks for your video .
Oh there’s that. I sometimes think about what some of these are really used for- and try to do the opposite of that. On a side note- I did try some classical music at the end but couldn’t find something appropriate I haven’t used yet. So I nixed the music and turned up the ambient track.
Thanks Bro. This model here, is my choice, and the standard for Midwest farmers. It makes for easy (not bending over so far) weed chopping (thistles, milkweed, Etc.) For every 640 acres, around here. Makes for 4 miles of ditch to walk, and kill these kind of weeds, *before* they go to seed. It's also often used to kill the weeds in Cow/calf pastures. Because, we just can't get the damn Cows to eat them.
So I own two of these machetes. The fit and finish is terrible out the box; but its bones are good. I spent several hours re-profiling the edge and honing it, and then I went to town on the handle. It is now ergonomic to hold and is dangerously sharp. I have taken mine to the woods and beat the tar out of them on hard woods, brier bushes, tall grasses, and much more. I've cut down trees and lobbed off branches with mine. After tons of abuse the edge remains extremely sharp. This product out the box is barely serviceable; but if you put in the time to refine it then you have yourself a very high end tool. The heat treat is well done. The steel is quality. And the rest is up to you to turn it into what it can be.
I wish I needed a machete. Even as a chef and I have lots of knives but none of these are practical but they’re awesome . I must say your parameters for pocket knives ( 4ozs or lighter) is good advice. Ps, I drank every time you said machete and I’m totally loaded. Loaded.

I own 20 or so machete's by all different manufactures. I have 3 of the Ontario machete's and I use one of them most of the time. Sharpen the machete with a flat file and only sharpen the last 12 inches of the blade. I learned that trick while surveying land the hard way. I cut a small pine and the machete went through tree and hit my knee. At that time I sharpened my blades to the handle and the machete hit my knee about 5 inches from the handle, so I had to hike out 3 miles and go get stitched up. Sorry. I just like to be a smartass sometimes. Ok always, but sometimes I don't say it out loud.
Machete.
When I do videos I often read forums threads in preparations- some dudes mention they prefer slightly lighter machetes than the Ontario. I don’t know where I stand yet... but I like introduce some of those thoughts into he videos- so people have things to think about other than my stupid face.
NNNNabeshin - It depends on the environment / vegetation / terrain . I was issued (Army) the Ontario in 1971 . Wear an Alice pack - carry an M-16 in one hand and an Ontario machete in the other while beating the crap out of the local vegetation .
You will soon wish you had a lighter machete like a Tramontina . ATB
Why aren't the tips on machetes sharpened? I know it's not a sword but you figure the tip would be sharp.
Awesome!

Nah, no lanyard and skull bead. I'll think I pass on this one. Thank's for your video.

Advanced Knife Bro lol 😂 OK that's a lot of skulls from keeping me whining from here to eternity! Great find man.
while the lack of jimping is a huge disappointment this is the same machete used by Billy in Predator so it's tactical as fuck. And hanging christmas trees are the new hanging bodies in a gibbet. true story.
Predator story or the christmas tree one?
Advanced Knife Bro Christmas tree story. All the hipsters who fled Brooklyn for Beacon NY do it. Predator was "inspired" by true events.

NAH man Bulbous is a great word.
I have been commenting too much on your videos so I'm not gonna comment on this one in any meaningful way. I hope I hit my mark here.
I'll make an even more mediocre comment.
