@@petebeard Kersey has been used as a filming location on a number of occasions from the film 'Singleton's Pluck' - A farmer becomes an unintentional celebrity when, because of a strike, he has to walk his five thousand geese, one hundred miles to market - to an episode of the Margery Allingham's detective Campion, with Peter Davison and Brian Glover, based on her novel 'Look To The Lady' to the backdrop of some Compare the Meerkat commercials. It's also been somewhat of a pretty village tourist attraction. I was brought up and live in this area within a couple of miles, hence instant recognition! The Meerkat commercial uses exactly the same view.
Another artist who has views of Kersey amongst his works was Suffolk artist Leonard Squirrell. Another well known local family name.

    Dear Peter
I'm very impressed by the quality of your videos, and I realise the enormous amount of work you have to do for each episode: iconographic and biographical research, editing, writing very well researched and concise texts, bravo!
Well done! And thank you! Because you are creating something that didn't exist before you, and which is very useful to anyone interested in visual creation: from the simple art lover, to the graphic design student and visual arts professionals.
You have created the first visual encyclopaedia devoted to illustrators. I'm sure that, in time, your work will become The International Reference Museum of Illustration. You are doing a very useful job.

Mr. Beard, I thoroughly enjoy your channel! I promote it to my friends whenever possible. A request! Please consider doing a video on The Art of Sherlock Holmes. Since 1891 his adventures have been illustrated by the likes of Sidney and Walter Paget, Frank Wiles, Frederic Dorr Steele, and many comic book artists, movie poster artists, professional illustrators, and motion picture animators--including Walt Disney Studios! A tribute to the Art of Sherlock Holmes would be an elementary chapter to cover in your history of illustration videos. Thank you. Thank you for everything! :)

Hello and my gratitude for your ongoing appreciation of the channel, and the featured illustrators. It seems to me the problem isn't so much a lack of talent among contemporary illustrators, more a lack of opportunity since so many avenues ( posters spring to mind ) are dominated by the use of photography. Hello and thanks again for your appreciation. Somehow I became 72 when I wasn't looking and in he last few years quite a few of my contemporaries have bitten the dust. But I looked online and apparently average lifespan for British males is 81 so these days 65 is fairly young to depart. And the answer to your question about those still among us is I know of many, and admire quite a few. But other than mentions in videos such as Grimms or Kid's books I leave them out, purely because their story isn't yet told. But maybe one day I'll do one on living favourites.

What was that french printing process on the batsford books? I wanted to learn more...

    • @petebeard

Hello and it's called the Jean Berté process, invented by a Frenchman who emigrated to the USA. I don't think there's a vast amount of information online but good luck with the hunt.

somehow I was more aware of Battaglia as an illustrator than a disney artist, I grew up with a large collection of his books, think it must have been from my american missionary friends in africa

Hello and thanks for the comment. I must admit I found it very frustrating to learn he had worked for Disney but could find no actual examples.

    Dear Sir,
I am not entirely sure of the location of "CHILI," but please be prepared to receive complaints from people in Chile. I heard a story about a British heavy metal band musician who, when asked if he liked Chile, said something about his preference (or lack thereof) for peppers... 😂

Hello and thanks for the comment. That is how the French spell the name of the country so it isn't a mistake - it's the same as them calling my home Angleterre.

could you go into more detail in a video about the printing process you talk about at minute 5:23
This channel is a gem!!! thanks for your work.

Hello and thanks for the appreciation. But that's about the extent of my understanding of the Jean Berte process, and before I made the video I'd never heard of it. It's very obscure and I doubt anybody these days would be stil using it but there might be something on youtube of you search for it by name. What mystifies me is why he didn't just use full colour offset litho to get the same result much easier.

Hello and the answer is I don't actually know, but most likely probably not. I'm not being a grumpy old git about it - I just can't think of anything particularly special.

How do you choose which set of illustrators to show and talk about?

    • @petebeard
      @petebeard  ปีที่แล้ว

Hello and thanks for the question. To qualify for the series all illustrators have to have been born between 1850 and 1910, but other than that there are no restrictions. I have collected pictures and biographies of hundreds (with many more to come) and I basically choose them almost at random but try to be balanced and varied in the four featured.

Fantastic presentations! But why not give each of the illustrators it's own respective video? 5 min or so each will be more then enough. Still great work though.

Hello and thanks for the appreciation. And regarding your suggestion that would have been one way to go when I started out, but I'm now 7 years and nearly 100 videos made so changing formats now wouldn't make a lot of sense. And in my defence most viewers seem to prefer the multiple groupings.
