Before high stack shoes i couldn't run more than 6 miles without being sore for days with foot and back pain. That changed starting with the Novablast 2, now I can go farther, faster, and train with more volume. The Glideride 3 has even better, and the Superblast the absolute best.

this is a very interesting video!!! came to this because I have been trying really hard to like my SB1 during my marathon training and everytime I end up with a huge foot pain...I am a quite light cadence runner and have been using them for my long runs, but very unsuccessfully! have been trying very hard since then to find a comfortable show able to pick up the pace if I need to but no luck...not scared about the distance, but scared about the foot pain!!! you guys are real pros, thank you!!

I am finding high stacked shoes like the Superblast 2 are putting more pressure through my hips. They protect my feet/ankles/calves well but i feel a bit disconnected in my running gait.

Thats interesting. I just did a tempo run with SB2 and feel unusually sore in my hips and calves.

Yeah, the impact have to go somewhere. Less lower leg injuries more upper leg injuries 😅

Interesting comment, just started to have some soar hips after my first week running with Superblast 2, something I never usually experience....might need a time to adapt my stride to this shoe .....?

I only get the hip/calves soreness on slower paces with SB1. Otherwise feels great.

we really just need to do more strength training, low stack are fine, I love my skyward x when I just had ITBS but now it just a heavy foam lol. I'm probably just gonna downgrade it into a casual shoe cause I like that it makes me taller lol, just need to go back to my trusty deviate nitro 2s.

I 100% believe running shoes with higher Stack (basically everything over 30 mm) contributes to injuries in hips, glutes, adductors etc. It became better as soon as I started using lower stack again. The waste of money is ridiculous.

Have you done a podcast on use of insoles in running shoes? When are they needed? How to choose them? Soft or stiff?

I’ve been running for over 35 years and wonder after we went from racing flats and no or lower drop to now super shoes and these new trainers like the superblast, novablast & the edge/sky Paris type of shoes. It’s been a short time for runners to know long term effects imo. Vs past 50 years of 10m drop traditional training shoes and racing flats vs what we have now? Btw I love the new super shoes and trainers but I’m a little concerned on long term effects…GLAD ASICS still makes a shoe like the hyper speed as it’s one of the few traditional types shoes available or are there others? Great work btw to you guys and Matt.

Kind of random question for Nathan---I live in Janesville, WI a bit south of Madison, and have been looking for some running clubs/communities to join, but think I'll have more luck in Madison. Are there any you know of that meet regularly? Thanks!

Good info. Just commenting about your mentioning about having no time to prepare visuals. How much time do you need to get, for example, Dave's describing foot anatomy, a cross-sectional picture of a foot. That's probably less than 2 minutes to google a good one.. Dave can then use a mouse cursor as he describes each part as this is projected on the screen output. I can't really follow these words and hand methodology (BTW, some other topic I can follow). These will really help listener. Sorry to be preachy but just a critic and hope it's constructive.

I realize you have two unrelated topics in this video - Injury prevention and SB2 review. The irony here is I developed PF with the Superblast (v1). I can’t prove this was the shoe, but as a runner for decades and with dozens of shoes in my rotation, the superblast was heavy in use at the time. I have other thoughts on its design (I think your comment on clunky I interpret as a lack of rocker design in v1). I’m sure I’m in the minority on this very popular shoe. Thanks to an awesome PT I’ve recovered (2 marathons in). I’m gun shy about the SB2 even with all the glowing reviews out there (and at this time it’s sold out every where). It sounds like you are saying SB2 fixes some of the “clunkiness” of SB1. Appreciate your content!

The SB worked great out of the box for me, but runs 4-6 started to hurt my feet
I learned that other people thought it was too stiff then it softened up. It probably softened up a little too much for my liking
I bought some endorphin shift 3 and it felt like I thought the SB would
Too bad it’s been discontinued 😢

personal trainer here. I'd bet the recommendation is 25 to the top-- as in 25 up and 25 down. Up and down/flex and relax is commonly the recommendation for 1 full repetition.

Good analysis as are the Novablast to a lesser extent. Love the new Paris line btw. But It’s a little too stiff for me but boy it’s a fast shoe. Runner of 35 years, it’s interesting where all shoes are going! VS just say 6 years ago.
