    Al USAF, want to thank you for giving me another try on a DIY kit I purchased. Almost threw it away with disappointment on my soldering job. It sucks. Your wire work is the cleanest I've seen. Purchasing another 510 connector and have another go at it with your style of wiring.....also OCD on any of my projects.

    Yes yes,Some one who has the intelligence while making this box mod to share with us where to buy the blooming parts from and explains why he had built the device this way,
    Well firstly I congratulate you on these devices` the work looks tidy and simple to understand due to your diagram and how you had explain the method to your mod,
    My questions to you are could I use slightly thinner copper so it would be less drain on the batteries and could the copper be coated to stop it tarnishing,lastly has your solder lead free or with lead or some thing else,
    Thank you for showing this vid

    • @AlUSAF
      @AlUSAF  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't go too thin with wires because it will affect the performance due to voltage loss. I would say maybe 16 gauge. You can coat the wires if you want but not sure what product to use for that. I don't use lead free solder because it's a little harder to work with, has a higher melting point. I specifically use 62/36/2 silver bearing solder.

    510 connector - fatdaddyvapes.com
    Hammond 1590BBK box - Mouser.com
    Switch - search eBay for an anti-vandal pushbutton switch...it comes in multiple styles. I used the flush button type rated at 3 amps (use at your own risk)
    Keystone 1048 battery sled - Mouser.com
    14 gauge solid copper wire - Lowes or Home Depot
    D1044 magnets for the cover - supermagnetman.com
    Consumables you'll need:
    JB Weld for securing the battery sled
    Loctite for the box screws
    Solder
    Tools:
    Step drill bit
    Drill bits
    Power Drill or drill press
    Dremel with cutoff wheel
    Needle nose pliers
    Wire cutters
    Build and use listed parts at your own risk.
    As always...vape safe!

    I also have been in communication with a few techs that provide mosfets, I'll post the mosfet I'm looking at in a few. basically these are automotive mosfets, used to protect micro controllers that operate headlights. rated for 60 volts and 30 amps. now, I been planning as posted yesterday, to build a series mod using two 26650 high amp draw rated batteries. I do not plan to see this box exceed 60 amps. I figure that's the spot I'll set my safties for. that's the amp draws my batteries can safely handle, so I figured my plans around this.my question to the tech was in regards to running parellel mosfets, to obtain that 60 amp safety. he replied that it makes sense but warned that the input current needs to be high enough to trip both mosfets. they would be in parallel by the way, leg for leg, only one resistor is needed. it wires just like a single, just stack the mosfets, solder leg to matching leg. resistor goes on the top mosfet only. now, what I am asking you guys is what is the current that is applied to the mosfets?

    actually I'll note that there are switches rated for 60 amps, 6 to 12 volts but I had to really think outside the box to find it. what I looked for was an automotive momentary starter switch.

    First off, your mod builds are SO clean! I love them, I have all of the supplies needed to folow your tutorials, but I had one question. When you secured the battery sled, do you have to use JB weld? Do you think a two part epoxy would work just as well? Thanks!

  • @richardpeterson3753

    however I have not yet used one, I plan to only because I wish to use a duel series mod for 8.4 volts. and I know from past attempts that when I go for 8.4 volt, things get rowdy.... so please if possible investigate these starter switches and if it can be verified as a safe high amp switch then let me know. also I'll note that you stated 3 amps at like what, 120 volts? at a lower voltage that amp rating will exponentially go up. how much I don't know. but I'd guess it's a min of 30 amp at vapeing voltage.

    +AL USAF. If I use a 510 ego connector, where would I connect the wire for the negative? Ok and I was just wondering if the atlantis could handle a dual. And thanks for responding!

    • @AlUSAF
      @AlUSAF  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to solder the negative to the body of the 510. If you're talking about dual 18650 in parallel then yes.

    • @AlUSAF

    For the grub screw without cutting them yourself you can go to Ace Hardware and pick up some black steel 10/32 slotted grub screws, 15 cents each. Don't get the stainless hex key ones as the magnets wont stick to stainless steel. Make sure they are steel and not stainless or you will have to make 2 trips. monsterfastener.com/item/hss-106?gclid=CMvZwIat8cECFY9afgoduIcAlA
    Also for the 14 AWG wire you can strip it out of an old piece of 14-2 romex house wire for free.

    • @AlUSAF

    You used 3amps Switch button. What is the reason? Does the 3amps on switch button means that if you need 10amps on your coil, then amps that can through your switch only 3amps. Will it shut your switch? Thanks before and sorry for my bad english.

    • @AlUSAF
      @AlUSAF  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on your build, the full amperage will still go through the switch. Why a 3 amp switch? Because there is not a switch out there, at least for the size and design of this type of switch, that is rated more than 5 amps. The only way to eliminate this limiting factor is to use a Mosfet.

    Thanks I just drew out my own diagram with your directions thanks again. Also one more question. Is it going to matter if on the sled I have is 2 positives on top and 2 negatives in the bottom. • @AlUSAF
      @AlUSAF  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem. All references will be looking at the front side of the battery sled and no Mosfet used. Left top contact will be your negative and left bottom contact will be positive. Right bottom contact will be negative and right top contact will be positive. You need to connect both bottom contacts together (negative and positive) by soldering a piece of wire. Then solder one end of wire to the top left contact (negative) and solder the other end of the wire to the 510 negative. Solder one end of the wire to the top right (positive) and connect or solder the other end of the wire to one of the switch post. Connect or solder a wire from the other switch post and solder the other end of the wire to the 510 positive pin. Hope this helps.

      No, as long as there is no direct connection between the positive and negative. Think about a tube mech mod, the tube is the negative. In my box though, the only part that is touching the box is the 510 Brass negative washer.

      I'm not sure what you mean by continuous. But if you want to build either a parallel or series 26650 box mod, the box you'll need is the Hammond 1590B, any 3 amp push button switch (highly recommend using a Mosfet, check out my latest vid for this) and go to vape3d.com for a dual 26650 battery sled (pretty cheap but with a long lead time). Hope this helps.

    do you run into the risk of causing shorts by removing the shielding from your wiring? what about being shocked?

    • @AlUSAF

      Brian Walsh II no as far as how I did it. No too for your second question. Not sure if you know this, but on a mech mod, the tube itself is the negative.

    • @AlUSAF

      You can use this same box, Hammond 1590B, but you have to make your own battery contacts or sled.

      Declan A i can't really give you an answer for that because I haven't tried to make one. But I would suggest to stick with 2 batteries, either 18650s or 26650s. You can buy a 26650 battery sled from Vape3D but it will be a while for your order to arrive because of the demand.

    • @AlUSAF
      @AlUSAF  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      0.10 with no issues.

    • @andrewsoja
      @andrewsoja 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Al USAF If a mosfet was added, then how low do you believe I would be able to run it?

    • @AlUSAF
      @AlUSAF  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The IRLB3034 is rated at 195 amps. So you'll be limited to the battery you use when it comes to max amperage. S always, when building extremely low resistance, Vape at your own risk.

    • @AlUSAF
      @AlUSAF  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Freddie Morales they probably don't offer it anymore since they have the new versions. You can either get the V3 or V4. Basically you need to order the main 510 connector and if you want, you can also order the 22mm washer too. Order the regular length if you're going to use it on a Hammond box, but if you're going to use it on a wood box mod then order the longer version.

    Why don't you use a mosfet in your builds?

    • @AlUSAF
      @AlUSAF  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Based on my experience of using an unregulated box mod with a 3 amp switch for more than 3 months now, the use of Mosfet is not necessary. Again, I'm doing this at my own risk. In addition, I don't really vape with super sub ohm builds other than for testing. I consider anything below 0.2 as super sub ohm...this is just me. My ADV build is usually between 0.3 and 0.4. Lastly, all unregulated box mods that are sold out there (ones that doesn't use Mosfets) use non-rated switches. I haven't seen a reported case where a switch failed because it's non-rated. The only thing I don't like is when a modder state the switch in use is rated at 60 amps. Which is ridiculous, because no switch manufacturer makes an anti-vandal switch with that rating. Check out Mods Unlimited and you'll laugh at this modder is stating, such as zero voltage drop and 60 amp switch...what a person would do just to get some buyers. Again, I'd rather state the actual parts used and let everyone know to use the product at their own risk. Lastly, if you don't feel comfortable using a mod with a non-rated switch, then use a Mosfet.

      I just ordered a Mosfet and resistor. I'll install it before I give this box mod away.
