    5.99!! I love their sale! 🤩 I’ve never tried self watering. Daaaaannnmg those fat roots! 😱 I hate the tight moss like that also. It just suffocates roots after awhile like you said. I always look at the pile of moss once I get it all out and think to myself “How did all that fit in there?!”

      Such a great deal right? I like self watering, I travel for work and it's a savior. Agree with you on how much they pack in there! It'll slowly kill you orchid! The poor things are never set up for success!

      Nicole Deanna so true. But it might just be a marketing scam to keep you buying more too.

    I have to re-pot my orchid after these blooms fall off. I'm going to try leca. But first, let me go see if you've posted any update vids.

      Thanks for watching! I made an update, she pushed out double spikes after :))

      @@NicoleDeanna Yes! I found the video. Looked fantastic! Definitely going to switch mine over. I was able to get three spikes this time around...about 27 flowers overall. Once it's done, I'll switch it over but I don't want to disturb it right now while in full bloom.

    It looks like orchids are generally cheaper in the US than they are in Australia.. They seem to go on sale quite often as well there.. By the way, I’ve binged watching your videos, I love them all❤️ Your apartment reminds me of where I stayed in NYC long time ago..

      It bloomed twice since, and still in this set up! Doing well. I'm finding phals like this!

      @@NicoleDeanna thank you, I’m planning to start growing orchids in semi-hydro.

      I appreciate the update. Until now I’ve only done a few plants in self-watering pots and they seem to do be doing really well. I mixed a small amount of moss and bark on the top 1/3 of the pot as I was low on lecca (🙄🙄) but it seems to work fine. I also put aerial roots in the pot when possible, as they always die otherwise.
      Anyway, I wondered how a phalaenopsis would adjust, so thank you for this video and update.
      Also: I set my pots up with more of the wick in the water below, and the moisture still wicks upward.

    This is exactly what I've been planning on doing. Do you have an update video? If not, please let me know if this system is working out.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I found that after about a year my phals started declining in leca so I moved them back to organic 🥹

    • @muCephei_
      @muCephei_ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NicoleDeanna I wonder why. Plants in LECA are supposed to grow faster and healthier because they get more oxygen and a constant supply of nutrients. Maybe green plants do better than flowers? I'm really curious now... Actually watching the video again did you feed nutrient solution from General Hydroponics? LECA is completely empty medium for nutrients so you need it....

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@muCephei_ Yes - used to feed them proper nutrients but MSU fertilizer and adequate calmag. I think it came down to my inability flush very often adn cooler winters. The system works well for my cattleyas, but not great for my phals or vandas in the very long run.

    Bonjour vous laissez de l’eau au fond du pot merci

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Je ne laisse de l'eau dans le pot que pendant les étés chauds quand il sèche rapidement, jamais en hiver. Merci! :)

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mise à jour - Désolé, je pensais que c'était une vidéo sur la mousse de sphaigne - oui, avec le leca, je laisse de l'eau dans le pot car elle est inorganique et ne se décompose pas. Les racines vont grandir et s'adapter

    The wick has to be in water underneath that is how it water’s your plant

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, but I only leverage that functionality in the summer when I can't keep up with the watering. I'll let it dry out just a little too prevent the mix from getting too soggy. Thanks for watching!
