    Very impressive! I run a CT on my VTX1800 but am scrapping pegs long before getting to lean angles like that. Nice to see people proving what everyone says can't be done.

      I Darksided my Burgman 400 Maxi-Scoot.
      Unbelievable UPGRADE.
      RIde quality is hugely improved.
      So is load # carrying capacity.
      Feels far smoother over rough pavement.
      Traction / pavement contact / rain traction up 100 %.
      Oh yeah, it's gonna last 4-6 X longer & cost HALF $$$ to replace.
      Pinch me - am I dreaming ?

    I ran a Dunlop 195 60 16, you can fit a 205 but it’s pretty tight...on my 2006 1600 Nomad, and loved it, will never go back to a MC, will not buy a bike that I can’t fit a car tire on.
    In the wet, you get amazing grip, start and stopping power, can use more rear brake without locking.
    I’ve had on pretty much every twisty you can ever want to run your ride...scraping the boards all the way through the Dragon, running the ReDWoods through USA 1, though the high heats of Death Valley, BlueRidge Mountains, Daytona RT.66...and even snow covered road (caught out by accident) and I can tell ya, there is nothing like it.
    In fact, there is this one 50mph left sweeper I would take...at about 70-80mph, the ass end would start to have a little give to it...with the car tire...I couldn’t get the ass end to come out...more and more throttle., lots of grip.
    I would run 40k a year and just couldn’t afford $300 every 2-3months, so I would run my rears right down to it was bald...like many of us do as the centre of the tire just wears out quickly...or have to worry about changing out a rear on a trip. I could easily get 30-35k of spirited driving, my mate he had a Honda VTX 1800 , ran a 205 60 16 Goodyear Triple Tread and got 80K on his, and he ran a lot of 2-up.
    You won’t crash and burn, the tire manufacturers and mechanics have a vested interest in you sticking with MC tires.
    They work, and work great.

      @psalm2forliberty577 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Awesome detailed testimonial.
      I just Darksided my 2006 Burgman 400 last week - tire now feels fully broken in 300 miles later. It's just as you say - rock solid rear tire to pavement connection. 0% slip in rain conditions.
      Plus it feels like an Air Ride suspension has been installed.
      An 80% reduction in rough road impacts felt - this to me is the MOST surprising benefit of Darksiding.
      I'll never use another MC tire on the rear again !

      Ergo, his visual & real world test here proves that Darksiders are not at risk of crashing @ steep turn angles.

      Yes you can run a dark side car tire flat to the tire shop to get it fixed. I know from past experience. I have tried to run a motorcycle tire flat a few blocks to a gas station and it came off the bead. That was horrible.

      I dont think anyone is advocating that CT make a better track tire. Or that sport bikes should run a CT. But rather for the heavy cruisers and touring bikes that super slab 75% of the time and find curvy roads from time to time. These tires fill a need. And perform good enough as shown in this video. I'm a fan of CT on my big cruiser not because they are 1/3 the cost of MT. Its because I always ride 2up and an average trip is 2,000+ miles having a tire that can handle a heavy load and give me 3-4 times the mileage is a no brainer. But ull be the first to tell you, these CT DO NOT handle nearly as well as a MT. It takes constant input on the bars especially on crowned roads or rutted roads. That being said its a trade off I've learned to accept.

    • @DJGENOTYPE
      @DJGENOTYPE 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kylestewart8354 I can see how it makes sense from an economic standpoint. Longer lasting tire, and saving some money. But for myself I need the performance aspect and don't want to take any risks. I tried it once and I did not like the feel of the road.

      I didn't expect this to improve but am thrilled.
      It's probably due to CT is a Radial construction.
      MT is Bias construction.

      Same here. All this does is create horribly inconsistent turning. Anyone switching from old to new MC tires can tell you how much better it feels/handles due to the nice profile of a new set of tires. This inconsistency can lead to handling issues and crashes.
      It also trades edge grip both due to lack of proper profile and proper compound, as car tire compound is designed a little differently.

    A car tire is better all the way around. More miles, more contact, stronger sidewall, better tread and it is rated for more weight than you will ever put on it. Because of the higher weight rating, you can put more air in it and achieve a round top!!! After a thousand miles or so it will be the same feel as a bike tire!!!

      You must do a lot of drugs. Car tire sidewalls are not stronger, but rather they are designed to keep the tire upright, which obviously makes zero sense on a motorcycle. If you go in straight lines, then maybe a car tire is for you, but it will NEVER out handle a motorcycle tire in the turns, never.

    • @richardlux2477
      @richardlux2477 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dickjohnson7845 Did you read what you said before you hit send? The only thing that keeps a tire upright is the wheel it is mounted on. A car tire does not know or care what it is attached to. It merely responds to road inputs. A car tire has a GVWR of two hundred pds. or more above a comparable sized motorcycle tire. Where does this higher weight rating come from? Car tires depend upon strong sidewall strength because of the high lateral forces that can be generated from agressive cornering. A motorcycle produces almost none of these as almost all the forces are in the vertical plane. For this reason alone, a car tire will give at least three times the mileage as the tread is held much more stationary by the stiffer(stronger?) sidewall. Way back in the 30's on up thru the 50's into the 60's, riders used to regularly put a car tire on their bikes as an M/T in the size they needed was not always available. Nobody crashed and burned and nobody said shit about it. Here we are, fifty years down the road, and tire technology has been improved upon I'm sure you would agree. Don't just pick any tire, do a little research and there is a car tire out there that has a performance envelop that is well within the requirements of a motorcycle. I've had a car tire on my bike for about two years and will never go back. I corner as hard as I want, contact patch is larger under all operating conditions, rear wheel is harder to lock up, feels more connected to the road in the rain and it will last 30k+ miles. The M/T manufacturers cannot or will not build a tire with this performance. They are rippin' us off. Wise up.

    • @peedee4065
      @peedee4065 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi James, would you please comment more regarding tire psi? I've heard of people running pressures as low as 27psi, that it allows the tire to deform more and thus increases cornering grip, while the stiffer sidewalls suffice for upright riding. You're saying you like using high psi? What would that be, and what's your bike? I'm sure lighter bikes can get away with lower pressures.
