High above bustling New Delhi, birds of prey known as black kites have for years routinely been falling from the skies due to injuries sustained from pollution or manja, the dangerous cotton threads of paper kites that slice through their wings. For decades, brothers Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad-who believe in the interconnectedness of human and animal life-have taken it upon themselves to save the birds, which the general city population largely sees as nuisances despite their essential role in the city’s ecosystem. In his hypnotic, poignant, and beautifully crafted documentary, New Delhi-based filmmaker Shaunak Sen immerses himself with Saud and Shehzad for a portrayal of their struggle to make change that doubles as a diagnosis of a city rocked by turmoil. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary (World Cinema) at Sundance and the L’OEil d’or for Best Documentary at Cannes. A Sideshow and Submarine Deluxe release in association with HBO Documentary Films.

Haven't heard any Indian director as clear with his ideas poetically as this fellow...
He is speaking with wisdom and sensitivity as a person twice his age. His name in Hindi means "great sage"
Satyajit Ray’s writings have great depth. Highly recommended, if you’re looking for something like this

A raw, painful and innocently humorous documentary centred on selfless acts of wildlife rescue. The cinematography left me in an absolute awe till the very end
what an impressive young man! Hwy are we not hearing more about him rather than the crass RRR and even crasser Bollywood?

audience is there,
problem is bollywood mafia controlled distribution racket. They open their crap films in maximum screens and dont allow quality movies from outside the clique to get any space.
OTT has revealed that there is a market for quality content, but Bollywood, like a disease, is also infecting that space.
Hope Shaunak will use his accolades to create a space for good content and not sell out to Bollywood the way Anurag Kashyap did.

Calling commercial cinema crass is wrong because you are basically practicing elitism. Most of the people around the world including Indians love to watch larger than life engaging and entertaining movies after completing their hectic jobs unlike binge watchers. And there's nothing wrong with it.
Similarly documentaries have their own audience but their number is less.

for a film festival, this is poorly shot-¾ of the frame is useless and we struggle to see the two subjects. Do better!
