Love this guy and the whole band. Paul lives close to where I live in Newnan, GA and we both use the same local luthier, Jon Brown. They all just seem like awesome people. I love how he loves music, all kinds of music. I’m 65 and am in a cover band and I love music and I love to make music. It’s my addiction and my happy place. I love guitars, amps and gear. I love listening to Charlie talk because he does this because he loves it. Yes it’s his profession but I would bet my house he would still be doing it, regardless if they were big time or not. He’s the kind of person that’s contagious. I have been of fan of theirs since they were struggling to break out and have seen them play a small side stage, I think on a flatbed trailer, to seeing them at the Fox and The Tabernacle here in ATL. I will continue to give them my money to see them perform. Rock on guys! Thank you for the great music and thank you to AMS for these interviews!
Excellent interview. Charlie is the real deal. What a fountain of music knowledge! At my very 1st meet and greet we actually had time to talk to the band members..... today it's just a photo op. Rather sad that. But Charlie gives me a hug each time I see him (4 meet and greets so far). In Portland, Oregon at Revolution Hall we talked about the lyrics of the Whippoorwill. That was 13 Feb. 2019. Unforgettable. I also got invited backstage after the 15 Sept. 2023 Tacoma, Washington show... biggest thrill of my life. Standing in the front row in Milan, Italy 2 Oct. 2024 was the only time I have ever been right in front of Charlie, Benji, Paul, Brandon, Kent and Richard. (RIP Brit Turner 3 March 2024) at a live concert. Heaven. Please do see Blackberry Smoke in concert. You'll not regret it. Thank you AMS and Charlie Starr for this interview.
I seen BBS at Rockfest in Cadott Wi - 2009. I’m a straight metal head. I was going to skip them, so early in the day. So glad I didn’t. There one of my favorite bands going now. Seen em live multiple times since. Just can tell/feel the authenticity. Great songs and such a tight band. No frills needed. Just come out, kick yer ass, and go home. Love it!!
I was lucky enough to get one of those Jr's and as someone who's always played Tele's it's been a game changer.Using that volume knob has been eye opening to do what Charlie is talking about here
Of course Charlie is a fantastic guitar player, but nobody talks much about his growth as a singer. If you listen to their first album and their most recent, he has learned so much about expressing himself. You can hear how his personality has changed over the years.
I haven't met Charlie yet but he seems like a friendly guy whom would be great to hang around and hear his stories. Inspires some of my guitar practice...
Best Band in the business and Charlie is the coolest cat in town!
