Combination of mechanisms
1. Inhibition of maturation of megakaryocytes in bone marrow
2. Peripheral destruction
3. Generation of cross-reactive antibodies
anti-NS1 antibodies belong to the IgM class
(So this rapid decline in platelet usually coincides with IgM appearance and NS1 negativity)
