    Slap this blind motor on your wall and you have either continuous AC or battery-powered home automation.
    Pre-program times to go to any height, so you can wake up with the sun rising! There is an included solar panel, but as you'll see in the video, it's nothing to rely on.
    ✱ ✱ ✱
    If you purchase from the links above, I may receive a small commission, this helps support the channel and costs you nothing extra.
    I was sent this product to review by banggood.com, no money exchanged hands, however, I am not required to return the review unit.

    Have the more expensive alternative Soma smart shades and was looking for a cheaper alternative. Sucks about the useless solar panel, looks like I'm sticking with Soma. A couple of the devices which are sun-facing are already at 12+ months without having to manually recharge it.

    typically you use one cord to open the blinds and the other to close them, or you use both to lift them. How does that work?

    How long do you think the battery will last? put your guesses down below 👇

    edit: so it's been a year... I thought I'd already put in the results of how long it lasted and just realised I didn't 🤦‍♂️
    Sorry! I'll try to re-run a battery test, but honestly, I forget I have it, it lasts easily over a month, probably even a couple. I'll forget I even have to recharge it, I'll just walk into the studio one morning and the blind will be down. Only issue I've had so far is the chain seems to have stretched on my blind, so I need to mount the motor unit a little lower to keep tension on the chain as the teeth on the gear have begun slipping.

      How long does the battery last with average daily use? And, now that its about a year old, is it still working reliably?

    Hey Cam, when you set a schedule is it saved on the device or does your phone need to be within range and have BT enabled for the scheduled action to work?

  • @mil3761

    One thing not mentioned is how you can use it with a metal bead chain that has a connector in the middle to join the two ends. The blind has a sealed cog wheel which the connector cannot pass through. The smart blind device has a cog that the connector also cannot pass through. The length of the chain between both cogs is not enough to fully open and close the blinds and it's already at the lowest part of the window recess. How do you solve that?

    • @camshand
      @camshand  5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Not sure you can, my chain is just long enough to pull the blind open whilst having the connector move from top to bottom of length never needing to pass through the cogs.
      Can you maybe purchase a chain without a join and fit it to the blind?

    These look pretty flimsy. Thanks for the video though. I think I will investigate the internal roller axle insert ones. The battery looks good. A few questions:
    * What kind of battery are they? As some rechargeable batteries are flammable and this could catch the house on fire especially given their locations or may have insurance implications.
    * is the programming of schedules stored on the app or the unit?

    • @camshand
      @camshand  ปีที่แล้ว

      unsure of battery composition as it's not on the unit itself. The window I had it installed on is south facing (no sun in Australia) so haven't had that concern but it is very valid to think of!
      Programming is stored on unit, phone only connects for updating them.
      I do want to swap over to roller axle units, they for sure my preferred install type, however more expensive typically.

    What about vertical blinds?

    • @camshand
      @camshand  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it has a chain or cord then it should work with this motor unit, otherwise if you need to manually pull them left to right on a track, then you'd need to find a horizontal bot that mounts on the rail, they have wheels and can pull sideways.

  • @borat6363
    @borat6363 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So how long did it last ya?

    • @camshand
      @camshand  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Whoops I thought I'd come back and put the result in ages ago! It lasts a very long time, I'd say over a month maybe even two. I forget I have it sometimes until lI walk into my room and the blind is down one day, I realise it's finally gone flat haha. I'll have to re-run a test again and see.
      My only issue at the moment is the chain seems to have stretched a bit over time so now it's slipping on the gears, so I'm going to have to remount it a little lower to keep tension when raising the blind.

    • @borat6363
      @borat6363 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@camshand Thanks for replying! You could perhaps link it up with a simple bike derailleur mechanism if that becomes a significant problem going forward. Of course, you'd also have to compensate the electronics to over-rotate by a certain small percentage every day but that's hackable. Good luck! Wish I could do this with my own blinds!

    3:49 - Why are all automation apps so crappy? Who cares about setting different heights on different days? It just needs to open/close at certain times. But more importantly, it needs to have a gradual open option to slowly open in the morning so it doesn't hurt my eyes. Yet nobody offers this feature. It's like app devs are idiots and can't figure what to do so they just make up useless garbage.

    • @camshand
      @camshand  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you can set to different heights at different times, but will take many preset schedules.
      I agree, it would be nice to set an opening duration, as that would be much easier to make it open full over say 1 hour once the solar panel detects a certain level of brightness.

    50£ for a cheap motor and a remote 🤔 you can get 4 remote power sockets for 20£ but this stuff is so expensive with no reason, I need only a motor in a box and a switch not a hole computer. 😂

      Haha oh yeah not 2 years lol, gets about 2 months with my blinds range of motion. I've taken it off as the chain had stretched and the teeth started to skip. Need to mount it a bit lower to keep tension on the chain
