    Also highly recommend checking out Aaron Franklin: franklinbbq.com/

    One advice for hot work on used gas tanks, ive done it a few times for a few projects like an 150 liter aux air tank, if you have two openings, run a shitton of compressed air thru the tank, and if you want to be extra sure that slowly degasing buildups cant bite you in the butt, flood the whole thing with inert gas like argon, then cap it and start working. Or get a gas tank used for inert gas, ask you local cooling system service companies or technical gas suppliers if they have any used ones on hand, those tanks and bottles often get scrapped due to failing their TÜV checks.
    Hope this helps anybody deciding to be crazy enough to cut into a used tank for flamable gas.

I live a little south of Boerne, which is just south of Fredericksburg and New Bruaunfels........you get the idea. You're right about the pipeline scraps, make the build a lot easier. Your english is really good. To cut down on flair ups when plasma cutting or welding on something that had gas in it is to fill it with soapy water let it sit for a couple of days then drain it and let dry fully. Make sure it is vented well before you attempt to cut or weld and also use a lit match and place it at the opening to see if there is any gas vapors still there. If nothing happens then it is safe to cut and weld on.

    Wow!! I am so proud you, you are and amazing young man that works hard with amazing friends that Helped you make a dream come come true, I’m from Texas so I love my BBQ also, but what I love to smoke is wild pigs, if you haven’t tried one I recommend you go kill one and smoke it, if you do let it lay in ice for couple of days to get wild taste out, you will be amaze on how delicious they are. And if you put DALLAS COWBOY STAR on your rig they will come......

    Der Hammer! Yet, the first thing I would have done is to remove the paint of the tan. After the parts are welded on it, probably it's much harder to get it off.

    wow using a oxy and plasma without eye protection. Nice project and great job. but hard to BBQ def and blind. thanks for posting but buy some safety ppe. cheers.

      jamming Martin 😄 Thanks Martin! I actually think with a little more experience I would probably be able to do BBQ def and blind just by picking the brisket up and feeling it, but that’s certainly not the goal. We learned a lot of lessons on the safety front, arguably to many the hard way. We’ll try to be more cautious in the future. Thanks again! Your comment is much appreciated!

    if you connect a car exhaust to the tank while you cut into the tank you can save your life

    For being a young welder myself, it would be better is you would keep ur plasma/cutting torch straight up and down and slow down in order to get a cleaner cut

    I have nothing but respect for those who decide to start their own business, it can be spooky but amazing at the same time,...have fun,...and don’t forget to emphasize ‘’ made in Germany ‘’ when you start selling them.

    Awesome watching this while my little smoker is making me some bacon!
    Only note would be for the little helper near the end to use some ear plugs when helping you get those parts tacked on so he doesn't get a hot spark in the ear. :D

    need a fire box on each end, more even cook or one on each end 1 for smoke the other for fire as well or can grill on each end "" WOW that 1 A MONSTER "" need a wench just to raise the doors

    • @jonasfreitag
      @jonasfreitag  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the counterweights, the doors actually open pretty easily. Not sure I could get my head around with the design with 2 fireboxes.

    I'm surprised Germans aren't already BBQing, given central texas and Carolina's youtube Bbqers say it came from german descendents

    Easiest way to mitigate the dangers of grinding and welding an old gas tank would be to fill it up with water all the way to the top until no more bubbles come out, only water. Leave it sitting for a day or so, drain off the water, start your project...
