My Grandmother lived to 101 years old. Doctors kept telling her she shouldnt drink so much coffee but she didnt care. She drank 2 cups in the morning instead of eating breakfast, she had 2 cups with lunch and 1 cup with dnner. So she drank a lot of coffee and really she fasted without realizing it since she didnt eat breakfast. So my take away is drink coffee and maybe you'll live to 101 also! By the way she was healthy and was tap dancing until 94 years old. Unfortunately Covid took her life but I believe she would of lived a few more years.

@Shwa44 Yes, she was very old, and no one lives forever. However, she was extremely healthy. She got covid, and within days, she died. Just like it killed people I knew in their 50s. My 1st post was just to say I don't believe coffee is bad for you and not debating if covid or the shot is worse than the other.

I shared only because I wanted people to see and take away that..."Hey....if coffee was really bad for you, then there's no way someone could live to 101 years old drinking that much coffee a day!" That's the takeaway message I was hoping people had. No political viewpoint was intended.

Lions don't drink coffee because they can't operate the Keurig machine. Paws are too big. As a runner, I gave up coffee as a test and found out that my running performance declines when I don't drink coffee. So if lions drank coffee, they would probably be more effective hunters. I love coffee but one of the few times I have it, it gives me severe leg cramps. So I can’t have it 🥀
But because I wanted something hot in the morning, I switched to mushroom coffee, spoiler alert , it’s expensive, and I also got LMNT “hot chocolate and coffee electrolyte mixers, also expensive, but it’s so worth it.
Now I’m able to have a nice hot cup of a coffee alternative, that actually keeps my leg cramps a bay.
If you suffer from severe leg cramps like i have, try adding Celt salt to your water too along with trace mineral drops. After 18 years of these agonizing cramps they’re gone.
I found out from a blood test that I have low blood sodium which was giving me the cramps. So now electrolyte salts and Celtic salt have cured me.
I spent hundreds of $$ on potassium, magnesium, magnesium teas… and they didn’t help a bit. Salt and electrolytes are the answer. I don’t even have to drink 96 ounces of water a day, like I use to, and be up peeing all night long. Lol .
      I’m free! 🎊 🥳🥳

I never had those issues but no energy pills effect me caffeine even 50 ounces in a red bull within an hour had never woken me up. The only benefit I get is like a caffeine pill before I sleep sometimes I wake up way more rested it's a pill I got a bunch of samples from at Sam's club.
I don't think caffeine really affects me never noticed a difference when I got off of it it's hard for me to drink coffee without like stevia but I don't need anything other than that my coffee sometimes I put protein powders in it to curve my appetite.
Marijuana doesn't affect me a lot of pain pills don't affect me. I am of Irish descent I probably have the bliss gene. My chemistry is different I probably metabolize caffeine in a much higher rate which is why I never feel a crash if I don't have coffee I never feel energy if I do have it. I've gone weeks months years without coffee I've waited 3 hours after waking up to have coffee like a double shot of espresso at a Starbucks with the largest size they have the grande.
Some of us just get the health benefits and none of the negatives. It doesn't matter if I ruin an entire pot of coffee and then drink it in 2 hours I don't feel a thing even as I'm sitting there trying to clean the hell out of my house and scrubbing everything you think that I would stop yawning but no.

After doing keto for a couple of years I am carnivore and since I don't like coffee I've never drank coffee (why should I?) and I'm 71. Carnivore, like keto, is a dietary lifestyle and not a religion and yet so many seem to want to make it like a religion complete with dogmatic and judgmental "thou shalt nots" claiming how dare you eat anything that is NOT an animal product in the same way a vegan would scoff if you ate any animal product and yet called yourself a vegan. It just gets old after a while. Just do keto or carnivore the best you can and if you're not satisfied with the results, try and do it better. But don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Steve, I think that is GREAT advice. I started doing a couple of these things Keto, OMAD a couple years ago. I didn't realize OMAD was a thing. I just realized that if I delayed lunch until early to mid afternoon, I was fine with 1 meal. But, I wanted it to be sustainable. I'd eat a chicken sandwich many days, WITH BUN. I figured, I'm eating soooooo much better than I was, one bun is not going to kill me. It clearly didn't and I consistently dropped 1 - 1.5 lbs per day. The one "thou shalt not" for me was Soda. I am such a soda addict that I didn't think I could survive an indulgence here and there. And, I was right. I eventually fell off the wagon and it was super hard to get away from it again.

Lifetime drinker of coffee here. I'm 67 years old, started drinking it in my teens.
I've been carnivore for 3+ years now. I gave up coffee for many months (maybe 6-8 months), then started drinking it again (one cup in the morning) a couple of weeks ago. Here are my personal observations:
When I was caffeine-free, I noticed my energy levels were more even. When I woke up in the morning, it didn't take long for me to get in gear. I was immediately alert, and my energy seemed high throughout the day.
These past few weeks with caffeine have been a little concerning. When I wake up now, I feel a little groggy, until I have a cup of coffee. I still feel fine the rest of the day, but I noticed that my sleep isn't as good. I'll wake up after 8 hours of sleep, but instead of feeling refreshed like I used to, I want to just lay there for awhile.
Personally, I think I do better without coffee in my life. I enjoy the ritual of making a good cup of coffee, and I love the smell and taste of a freshly brewed cup, but it's not worth it. I just finished a bag of beans, and I'm going to pack up my grinder, scale, filters, and V60.

What destroyed my carnivore results was eating too much. When I started tracking macros based on my body fat percentage, weight, and ideal weight, I started losing weight at the rate of two pounds a week. I weigh, measure and record everything I eat. I discovered when I started tracking that I had been deceiving myself about how much I was eating every day. What’s great is that I had been eating carnivore for six months, probably consuming from 2000 to 3000 or more a day and didn’t gain weight. So when I reach my goal of losing 20 pounds, I will be interested to find out how much I can get away with without gaining weight. By the way, I drink coffee (decaf) and diet soda every day. I’m over 70 and petite. I also have ADHD and my brain needs a shot of caffeine midday.

    • @VanDamn911
      @VanDamn911 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I cured my ADHD with the carnivore diet. I should say, I'm able to manage it and it even comes in useful at times now. Not enough nutrients to the brain was the primary problem. I was not getting vitamin K2 from ruminant animals with four chambers stomachs capable of digesting play a material, filtering out plant defense chemicals, anti-nutrients, and even some environmental toxins... while also making those nutrients more absorbable or bioavailable to me... and my brain. Soda will kick you out of ketosis. Ketones are our brains favorite fuel type. Allowing any glucose into your bloodstream that you can't work off with exercise, will enter the brain fogging your mind, and also causing high insulin, keeping you out of ketosis. Cognitive and regenerative brain functions increase dramatically while in ketosis. I also became very aware of my surroundings. My Hashimoto's and restless legs went away, etc. It wasn't until I locked myself away in a bubble that I realized how much chemicals and toxins in our environment affect brain function. We need good brain function and fully powered brains running ketones in order to repair our whole bodies properly, and optimally. While I would agree that coffee is not the worst thing you could have... Coffee is still a stimulant, spiking or dopamine, and making it difficult to remain calm in stressful situations. Our brains and bodies have to regulate and adjust for changes made by the different chemicals in coffee. I believe dealing with these inflammatory stressors may confuse, or even inhibit some repair functions. I already know those addicted to coffee are going to defend their coffee... If your brain is saying give me coffee, give me coffee... It might be taking time away from important healing or cognitive thought processes.

SOoooo mix it up! And for heavens sake keep your Coffee! You can decide LATER. Do yourself a favor and forget about removing coffee, NON issue! And if you can’t look another piece of steak in the face?? Look at keto alternatives!! [just stay away from the “fake’ keto trash [processed shit with “Keto” written on it LOL].
I’ve been Carnivore for a year and I’m not going back! In the first months I had green salad with homemade oil and vinegar dressing… I made Texas chilli and added a can of black beans [yes full of oxalates, I know] flavored with spices typical of Texas Chilli … I did some hard cheeses [not much]. I even had a VERY occasional shot of whiskey!! And the list goes on… did it wreck my results? NO.. I’m doing so much better that I will never give this lifestyle up! While I am working on removing my occasional vices? I’m doing great! WAY WAY better than when I was eating SAD!

I put 1 tsp of organic roasted chicory into 2-3 cups of boiled water while it's hot. I make it the night before so it steeps all night. Play with the ratio of water to chickory. Use it just like coffee. We add organic milk and a tiny splash of cream. It's a great time to get your spices too by adding turmeric, cinnamon, and black pepper. My husband gets caffeine buzz so we switched to this morning drink and he loves it. I add a scoop of collagen powder to mine and the spices.

I really enjoy your insight, knowledge, unbiased view, and humor in your videos. I used to drink 2 cups of coffee first thing in the morning and 1 cup in the afternoon. The Caffeine was causing me a lot of anxiety, stress, crashing, and other issues and the acidic side of coffee caused me a ton of heartburn, indigestion, other gastrointestinal issues like constant diarrhea and vomiting for no reason. I switched to tea which calmed a lot of the gastro issues but still had issues with the caffeine even though it is much less than coffe it was still affecting me. So, i switched then to cacao and all that went away fairly quickly since i had already slowly tapered and removed caffeine and now I sleep better, no gastro issues, stress and anxiety has improved, mood is better, and no crash. For me this worked wonders because apparently im really caffeine sensitive and my gut is still in the process of repairing itself from the ulcers and acid damage and is still easily prone to imbalance as well as my hormones. Going carnivore and switching to cacao has been a game changer for me personally 😊. Nothing against coffee or tea, I sadly just cant do either.

@elizabethwhite1068 a drink brewed similarly to coffee but with raw lightly roasted chocolate/cacao beans ground like coffee and (I find this to be the best way) used in a French press and brewed like coffee that way. Basically hot chocolate without all the chemicals and other stuff. It's bitter like coffee with a chocolatey taste because it's chocolate. It's pretty good and it has helped me to still have something to wake up with, but without the issues the caffeine and acid in coffee and tea cause me. I was a super heavy coffee and tea drinker for a long time, but my body never really reacted quite right to it, so it's been nice having another alternative. I hope this info helps a little ☺️.

@elizabethwhite1068 you're very welcome! If you get a chance to try it and remember, let me know what you think! There are a few brands I know of that preroasted and packaged (its a bit more expensive than doing on your own) CrioBru and Choffy are two of the bigger name brands and you can also find raw cacao nibs and lightly roast them in the oven (there are some websites online that explain the best ways to roast them and such and how to best make the roasts at home) and grind them in a burr coffee grinder relatively coarse to make your own if you want a cheaper route. I started with Choffy brand to see if I liked it and I'm going to start making it myself soon and see if I am able to get good results or not. I've seen some conflicting information about doing it at home and that it can be hit or miss but it's worth a try to save some money if you have the time to do it and it makes your house smell like chocolate 🥰

Coffee has been investigated a lot, one time it is bad, next time it is good, so I think it is everyone's personal decision. There is a difference depending on the way you prepare it. In the old fashioned way, with grinded coffee in a paper filter, then pouring on hot water, some chemicals, that may raise your blood pressure, are adsorbed by the paper. I prefer not to drink coffee put in a cup for a coffee machine by the manufacturer, because that is processed. I eat carnivore now, but I still enjoy my coffee.

    1) heavy metals and toxins like to adapt to nerves ... when someone is not fully detoxed, coffee will be not first choice at carnivore or keto-diet. You always have to consider your own individual state of health.
    2) When our mouth can detect five tastes, sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umam. How does a carnivore-human can ever taste sour and bitter again? Butter tastes sweet, meat umam, salt salty, but the other two?

When on Fasting of 3 to 5 days or IF of 16:8 to 20:4 (I advocate doing 18:6 or 20:4 IF), it's best to refrain from drinking coffee or stimulants. Just water fasting is used.
Fyi, I am into 18 years of Immunology and Immunotherapy research work in Asia.
Individually, some people benefit from coffee in small amounts, whereas some cannot tolerate coffee, mainly due to its caffeine side effects.
Personally, in my own situation I quit coffee since age 7 due to insomnia and gastric after drinking coffee although my parents and my sister comtinued to be heavy coffee drinkers.
In addition, i don't like the bitter taste although i like to smell the aroma.
Dark chocolates and award-winning Japanese Green Tea and Matcha are what I love and believe these 2 superfoods are definitely better for me.

Cream in your coffee may not be too bad, if it's real cream - but what is sold in grocery stores as "heavy whipping cream" is just skimmed milk, with a bit of cream added back, plus a ton of toxic emulsifiers.

Tibetan Tea is made with butter and salt instead of Milk and Sugar - sounds gross but not so bad. Cream in coffee tastes good but i find that sparks my carb addiction - I notice I keep increasing the amount. My preference is a splash of MCT oil - that's a lovely combo ! having said that, I find a cup of green tea a better way to start the day, and then coffee with breakfast. This was a good video, I'll definately be looking more into it.

Used to be a heavy coffee drinker. However, 4.5 months into carnivore and 1 fine day when I went to fix myself a cuppa, it tasted like dirt (similar to Laura Spath's testimony). Needless to say, I poured it down the sink. I then experienced 3 days of muscular pain due to withdrawal symptoms. It's been 30 days, and I do not miss it. I feel free!

My mom was Italian, but her parents died prematurely. She had toast and coffee every morning.
Her death at almost 100 was not health related. It was her colon. She ran into issues and didn't have symptoms until it was too late. Otherwise she'd probably be here now, and WALKING! Nobody believed that she was walking around, still black hair (some gray), at 99. She got a kick out of people asking her beautify secrets!
She did have one, though: she had a belief in baking soda and lots of exercise. She'd say never stop moving, or you'll stop moving against your will.

I was super attached to my organic French roast but since my doc is optimizing my thyroid levels and increasing my t4 and t3, I am noticing it doesn’t taste good to me anymore, and I’m not even wanting it. It’s worth noting that I generally drank it black, since I’m losing weight presently. But I used to love the taste, and it evaporated from my taste buds. I am using it medicinally on the rare occasion I get a migraine - which it now helps because I’m no longer habituated to constant caffeine intake. I am curious if being off of it will lower my triglycerides at my next blood test. I prepare my coffee without a paper filter which is known to have possible cholesterol impact. But it’s clear to me that I was addicted due to very low physiological energy levels (low thyroid) and the caffeine was stressing my adrenals as well to have to jump start with caffeine all the time. This feels much better, and it’s been beneficial to my IBS to be off the coffee as well.

Step away from the Hot Bean Juice!😁
My top tip,, before quitting and when reintroducing, take it black, unsweetened obviously too.
Much easier for your taste buds to recognise it for what it is to you. If you're like me it actually does start tasting like bitter dirt. Then it becomes much easier to quit properly. Your irritated kidneys and urinary system will thank you.

I have been on and off coffee since my 20’s. I’m now nearly 73. After starting Carnivore nearly 2 years ago, I tried it last August but after a while it began to affect my digestion so I stopped and haven’t gone back to drinking it. My digestion is much happier for sure

In the Journal of Psychdelic Drugs, there is the photos of spideres feed flies induced with different drugs. The spiders that were feed caffeine induced flies, couldnt make a spiders web resulting in the spiders death! MESCALINE induced flies made the spiders make the most efficient spider web. Caffine also causes tinnitus.

Maybe more important is that the coffee is organic!! " First, conventional coffee is among the most heavily chemically treated foods in the world. It is steeped in GLYPHOSATE, synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides - a real mouthful with a bad taste. Not only does the environment suffer from this overload, but so do the people who live in it AND those who drink that coffee" ---September 2023

As a toddler I was given coffee occasionally but it was half milk and sugar. I love the taste of coffee but no sugar or milk or cream now. I like it for its diarhetic (sp?) property

I watched this and gave up coffee. Tough first three days. But now i feel so so much better. Lost many inches on my waist. Chocolate is in same bean category. The warehouses store wet beans in sacks, mlld is inevitable. Bean may be washed again or not but dead mold is bad too

My kiddo was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease and although it magically went away after she went full carnivore in 2019 I still keep her way from caffeine because no one seems confident enough to say Grave’s wont return. There was so much bad advice and they wanted her to take meds that caused other risks and side effects and everyone was saying changing diet ONLY would not heal her, but it did. VERY ODD. But, I wanted to mention here that I switched to decaf and it was easy peasy. Also, my daughter & I both found teas that we enjoy and heavy cream can be added to teas as well. I’m sure you can slap some butter in here if desired. It’s helpful for many people to have an option for the social aspect. When friends wanted to go out for coffee or have you over for coffee, bring your teas! Or order decaf. Or just have a water. You wont die. 😝
And if coffee doesn’t bother you, no anxiety, no heart or diabetes issues then have at it with the coffee. Totally an individual choice. I’ve quit coffee before and I’ll do it again. But it’s not high on my list of issues. All of the other crap that was keeping me sick was very important to get rid of over the years and coffee definitely played a part in making all of those changes possible. Or easier at least.
    🤗

2 years ago I was over 770+ lbs (ERR on scales). I've lost 495 lbs and I'm currently 275 lbs. I used to drink a long back every morning. But just felt I didn't want it every day so I naturally stopped. I still enjoy a coffee socially with friends while they eat their sweets! It doesn't seem to affect me either way. Everyone's journey is different :)

    Hi Dr. Westman
There's a new 2024 documentary called "Feeding Tomorrow". It seems to be from the plant based food industry. In two places it suggests to minimize the consumption of red meat. They show all kinds of vegetables and fruits as if they were the only suitable foods. I'm sure you will have a reaction to that.

I keep coffee in my diet for social reasons.
    * Thanks Dr Westman for the point on ' no coffee when going in for fasting blood work.'
I've been guilty of this. I never gave it a second thought. Ooops.
I use Robert Timms instant coffee at home.
I made lousy coffee in the coffee maker so ditched the machine. ☕🤷😁

Well I have heard all that I needed to completely cut coffee ☕️ out of my diet, she mentioned common underlining conditions like thyroid and inflammation should best avoid coffee 😮 more than 70% of American have this problem anyway, who thinks they are perfect they done their physical yet” so I think it’s good to just do decaf if you just can’t give up the taste. Relying on coffee to feel better in the morning is just a way to cheat lack of sleep 🛌 try to get at least 7hrs worth of sleep and an orange 🍊 in the morning will give you all the mental clarity and sharpness you need🎉
