The likes in this are solely for Alan. Barbara is atrocious in this. Alan is an incredible man and I admire him , for his character and the characters he plays. He’s a very sensible, decent , wise man. And he is very passionate about all he does in his life. Thanks for the upload.
Thanks for saying this. Walters truly was atrocious. One would think she would prepare for an interview like this, but her questions were those of an unprepared high schooler. Alan’s kindness shines through here, in patiently responding to such ridiculous questions. I doubt very much Walters would have a career today, with questions like that,
She asked the questions people would ask. She gave him the opportunity to present himself and who he is. As he said, we will never know him personally and he doesn't want his life played back for him on a regular basis. The fact we are criticizing her and respecting him is exactly what she was trying to accomplish, because, on some level, she felt he was worthy of our respect. This is actually what true journalism looks like...the pursuit of as much truth as you can find in a world designed to lie to you on a daily basis.
Can't remember who said it but one of the actresses said she'd only talk to Barb Walters because Barbara Walters respected her wishes about things being on and off record. Past that I really don't have an idea
I LOVE Alan Alda!! I watched MASH after my Dad died, who also happened to have been in the Korean War. This cast felt like family to me. Alan Alda is so incredibly beautiful inside and out. So very intelligent, interesting and so talented!!❤️ Why would Barb even bring up being tempted by others. 😒This isn’t the Enquirer.
This interview seems genuine, so Alan Alda saying "people don't really know him they only see a public image", I don't actually agree, (he is being humble). His sincerity, warmth, honesty, family values, show who he is as a person and comes out with this interview with Barbara. Sure we don't know everything about him and all that drives him, but we know "enough" to determine who he is as a person, in this honest interview. Alan, you deserved being the star of the show. A guy with a heart!
When I was four years old, Alda’s chicken story segment of the MASH series finale made a permanent impression on me. I was vaguely scared of his acting at the time. Now, I realize what a master of the craft he is.

@@SLIMFIRE69 I'm a HUGE Kramer and George Costanzo fan I would say. The whole show is great but it's the characters from both of them that make the show. I guess I mean I wouldn't go see Jerry in stand up. I'm not saying he's not funny but George an Kramer are the show.
Best thing you can be is your self in life, always chasing to want to be like someone will leave you empty. Barbra was a very twisted woman she was always known to try and squeeze out info from people and make them seem bad. Face it Alda was a great man and a fine gentleman!
This reminds me of when mash did the episode where the newsman interviewed the cast. Some of Alda's mannerisms from that episode are just like this interview
I love everything about him. Him speaking of his wonderful wife sounds just like me speaking about Gina, whom I've been happily married to for 30 years. He spoke about traditional family roots, but like me, he is not an Evangelical. right-winger, but rather very accepting of others, Sorry, but he's a role model for me.

Terrible interview, with atrocious and offensive questions! Why did she even have to go there? Why did she keep on pushing after he answered her vulgar questions? How disrespectful! And when she did, why could she NOT accept that this is a decent man who loves his wife and family, and who could not ever imagine disrespecting them by having an affair?! She had nothing on him and she tried to create a scandal out of nothing!! Never seen her before but her interview technique is disgraceful. She is rude and obnoxious and insulting. He is educating her on what an interview should be!! What a gracious, warm and professional gentleman.

It’s not her being married three times, it’s being *faithful* during those marriages. My maternal grandparents had been married 45 years when he died, they had been together 51 years. When i was about 10 (they had been married for more than 40 years at that time), i heard him say something about, “….that beautiful woman.” I confronted him, he said, “Looking and appreciating is one thing. The line that struck me the most was this one: I have an insanely normal family life. The reason I act is so I can act out all these characters that don't have a normal life. So, Hawkeye is a aberration from Alda, Arnold Vinick was a Republican vs his staunchly Democratic affiliation. And those are only two of his characters I am very familiar with. I have seen this movie where David Ogden Stiers acted with him again, but it didn't have a lasting impression on me.
