    Love that "finger shot" on the snare. Check it - at the beginning, dude's playing the backbeat with the tip of the left stick on the stack, but letting his fingers hit the snare at the same time, to make the sound a little "thicker".

    Anyone know what model and finish is the main snare he is playing in this? Sounds really round for it's size and the finish is so enchanting.

    Ok at first I thought it was the lighting, but no, the snare head has a ripple in it (loose tension rod). That can't be intentional, could it?

    • @nameloss
      @nameloss 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      obi0peco massively late reply as i'm revisiting this video, but it can be. all lugs at the usual tightness save for the bottom two where your rimshots occur. it's a common trick to get a sort of throaty punch but keep the mids and treble + snare wires in the sound? something like that. haven't tried it myself

    Are those wrinkles in his snare head or is that light

    • @michaelnicely2149
      @michaelnicely2149 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those are wrinkles. Though, through everything I have ever been taught about not getting wrinkles in the head. I have found that the best sound I have gotten was with wrinkles like his. Then you tighten up the bottom two lugs and get a nice funk snare or punk snare or something.

      A trick a few drummers use is to tune every lug fairly high, except the two closest lugs to where the stick hits the rim. This apparently fattens the snare sound while retaining the crispness of the snare wires.
