    • @tuila
      @tuila 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Wait, what? He literally spoke 4 hours about himself and barely anything else.

    • @0ak3nshi3ld88
      @0ak3nshi3ld88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      @@tuila That's the point of the podcast: to talk about yourself. (Or they would all be the same). Talking about your life experiences and lessons is not the same as talking to make yourself look cool or impress people. I didn't listen to the whole podcast, but this guy made himself look pretty bad several times. That's not ego.

    • @grotoiler6104
      @grotoiler6104 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@0ak3nshi3ld88 Often guests talk about ideas, theories, political structures, events etc. Talking about yourself this long seems pretty narcissistic, the way he low key fishes for admiration/approval would also suggest a slight narcissism

    • @0ak3nshi3ld88
      @0ak3nshi3ld88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@grotoiler6104 Valid points about Narcissism. Perhaps you are right. This is the only portion of the podcast I listened to, so my perspective is limited... But remember that the only frame of reference each of us has, is our own life experiences. A person without Ego is constantly learning lessons from their mistakes and correcting course. Unlike the majority of people these days, they are very aware of their flaws and willing to admit fault. They learn valuable lessons from their mistakes. Why not share those lessons with others? If we don't have too much ego to learn from others, there are valuable lessons to be found within each person's life experiences.
      Also, it is ironic that sometimes those who suppress the biggest egos often assume someone's motives are driven by ego.

      Original starcraft and wc3 were my shit. I could play use map settings starcraft modes, specifically poker d for hours. Me and my friend would play all summer even semi recently like 5 years ago. I'd go on at 6 or 7pm and play a match or two. Then I'd finally decide to eat dinner, but put it off for one more game. Then birds would start chirping and I think "what kind of bird chirps at like 9pm--"(finally glances at clock) its 5am. Every single night or cloudy day that would happen because mnly reference of time was subconcious from the light from my window. SC and WC3 were so euphoric and engaging my mind would leave time and space and reach moksha.
      It's so sad. Blizzard was respectable and amazing. Like the Daniel day Lewis of video game companies. Always giving 100 percent, completely encapsulating themselves in the worlds they are creating, full dedication and appreciation of the arts, and putting quality over quantity. The dedication was unreal. Their balancing was like einstein compared to other strategy games. Like a perfect equation. The thought and time gone into it was that of a master watchmaker in the 1700s making a pocketwatch for the king. Every small mechanism precise. Now blizzard sold out vis Activision and it's all coasting on legacy, halfassing it and micro transactions. Their downfall began with world of warcraft being so popular and genuinely great at first, they saw how much money they could make off subscriptions at 15 bucks a month, then they noticed that they can keep churning out worse and worse expansions with almost no time or dedication paid to them and the fans will desperately buy them to be up to date. One game produced so much money and fandom that the company got blinded and got too big. No longer was it a niche kind of indie passionate developer. No it merged with Activision and becomes a goliath and an example of everything bad about the industry. Profit over fun, microtransactions and worthless expansions, it got so bad they had to release classic because their greed destroyed the spirit of the game.
      Starcraft 2 seemed to be a step in the right direction but they slowly ruined that as well. It can't even hold a candle to brood war to this day. They sold out so bad that they had that diablo mobile debacle. It's so sad. Diablo 2 was genuinely a masterpiece and now its milked on mobile and while diablo 3 was okay, it lacked the feeling and spirit and just magic of the 2nd and first.
      By the way if anyone loves diablo, the torchlight series on steam is amazing and exactly what diablo 3 should have been like. It's made by some of the original people who worked on diablo. It's a great game with great art aesthetic and feels nostalgic while new.

But I feel like it just felt good to have video games be something that you just played when you went over to a friends house, or with the family. Like Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Halo CE and Halo 2, those games promoted human interactions.
      Now, it just feels like you go over a friends house, and everyone just takes turns on online multiplayer. Or, we'll all be playing COD, but there's no team work or competition, we're just independently shooting at strangers and occasionally talking.

      haha that was me! i did that as a form of escapism. I was friends with shitty and stagnant people. I didn't find joy in most of the things I do, so I resorted to activities with instant gratifications. Porn. Games.
      Luckily a good friend got me into working out and that helped. That single activity cascaded into other positive habits. Improving myself and reaping the positive impacts became the 'virtuous cycle' that helps me become a better person. I still have a lot of vices. But I'll be damned if I say I'm not in the best shape, best social standing, and most productive period of my life.

    I know exactly what he means because I was playing arena on wow for 12 hours a day to get gladiator. I wouldn't stop for anything and nothing was more important at that time. Took me years to find out I was just filling the competition void in my life.
