  • Hello Friends,
This is one of the least interesting ways of start a lens repair, half of my screwdriver broken inside the screw slot, and for a moment i even got scared that I'd need to proceed in a destructive manner. Finally, after trying many things, I found a solution that I share with you.

A magnet is essential in our toolbox. Several times I have accidentally dropped a small spring or the ball of the diaphragm ring on the floor and thanks to the magnet I have been able to find them.
Thank you very much for the time you spend recording these useful videos.
    Kind regards amigo 😃👍🏻

Hi, I tried with the magnet here, and a really strong one (1.2Tesla) to no avail. Saludos amigo!

I totally agree with you. The magnet I have at hand just in case is the powerful base of a portable radio CB (citizen band) antenna that in the good old times I used to put on top of the car roof. Up to a certain limit, high speed does not affect it.
The other day a black micro screw fell to the ground, which is also a black mottled floor. Almost impossible to find it. I dragged this magnet across the floor and to my surprise it appeared. Useful tool!

@@fernando0854 very good idea indeed, what I usually do is to shine the floor with a really strong lamp (800 lumens) at an angle and look for the shadows. Works nicely on smooth floor, carpets are a very different game but we don't have any since they pick a lot of dust.

Yes, that is another good solution, to find them by their projected shadows. Although it all depends of the screw, spring, ball size as well as the type of floor. Carpets in no way are permitted, hahaha.

@@fernando0854 for balls, I put a bit of grease on them so they become sticky.

Any tips for stripped screws on lenses?

If the screw head is done, the real solution is to drill until the head falls and use pliers if possible, if not, drill the screw and re-tap the thread. There is really no easy solution. If the head still has something of a imprint, I use a big screwdriver to have a lot of torque and push with all my weight at the same time, I've put some acetone before, works most of the time. Best

The absolute worst is when you have to drill these tiny things out. Had a laptop with that problem.

I can understand you, and it must be precision drilling, otherwise you make it worse. The most tricky one I've done was a 2mm screw whose head snapped, a nightmare !

@@diyextravaganza if I have to drill a screw out, I will only do it until the top falls off then I will use pliers on the stem when I can. Best most careful way.

@@classic.cameras Nice approach, I've resort to re-tapping a very few times.
