Hello, i have a D700 Mirror stuck up problem - the mirror is up, suddenly, hence therefore, the OVF is black, because of that issue, and the mirror is not coming back down. Mirror lockup feature was never being used. Is it Toast?
Does it work in liveview? I've seen that in the Nikon F2, maybe the lubricant of the mirror has dried. Hard to tell without having the camera in my hands.
@@diyextravaganza Live View isn't working. I have another D700, fully mint. Figured out, that when you press the DoF preview button, only the aperture lever turns up & down (when you've the F-mount open, on the left side from the front) But when i do this on my failure D700, the body does a full mirror cycle, it goes up & down, but stays all way up. I put gloves on, and with a rubber tweezer very carefully tried to put the mirror down, but it doesn't stay all down, like it should, is loose - and stays only about half way, into the upper 2/3 into the mirror box. After pushing once then again the DoF button, it's the same - the mirror is all up, so that the OVF is all black. (edit) the body looks mint, and the shutter count is 42k.
Hi I forgot to make the marking, how can I make it right
There is no easy work around, you need to try every position, use a marker to mark the wrong ones, so you don't repeat indefinitely. Best regards.

@@GirishkumarManoharan you need to try the 6 positions and check the one that allows mounting correctly (i e. Focusing at infinity). Best
Hello, thank you for sharing this fantastic video! I was wondering, would a 1.3mm glass be a better option compared to 1.5mm? Also, could you provide the exact dimensions of the glass for a D800? That would be incredibly helpful. Thanks so much again!
Hello, thanks, I think 1.3mm is the exact thickness of the original filter, so, it should be the optimal solution, however, I've never seen quartz glass in 1.3mm thickness, if you have a link to that, it would be interesting. About the exact size, I don't have it in mind, but 1mm on each side should work, so, I'd say, 38x27mm is a good size. You need the extra 1mm to clamp the glass. Best regards and share my content with friends !

thanks so much for this - I own a Ektar 7.5 inch ƒ4.5 lens and I am fascinated by the work that was put into making this....
Hi, you're welcome, I worked on optical manufacturing and it is a fascinating process, hasn't changed much in 100 years.
Such a professionnal & intructive work DE. Despite I'd say color rendition seems richer with the 1.4 model, even @ 8.0 I'm not sure I'd be that worried to start a set for filming purposes with the 2.0 model that said... maybe the 105 2.5 is even a better deal.
Hi, thanks for the feedback, any of these is a good choice to start a set. I have yet to compare with the Zeiss 85 1.4. regards
Saludos.
Interesting that all the various lens parts and components are called "here". And too much hand touching of parts. You need to practice how to manipulate the parts with tweezers, to avoid putting oils from your hand on the parts, before reassembly. Do not use toilet paper for anything, as it has the potential to leave behind lint. There are so many microfiber cloths you can use. Lastly, you need to re-lubricate the parts you cleaned, or the helicoids will wear out as you use the lens, because aluminum (aluminium) is a very soft metal that will wear fast, if not lubricated correctly. Overall, it was a useful video.
Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep it in mind for future videos.
Great video but my front element will not come out at all !!.. I have undone the screw and the element seems like it is completely stuck and will not move.
This can happen sometimes, you'll need some patience, try also putting some acetone to soften eventual traces of glue. Regards
@diyextravaganza thankyou - I will try that.
Thank you for sharing as always , I tried to clean this 70-210mm lens , but it was not successful due to degraded coating due to fungus within the sealed elements , it's common with this type of Nikon lens ,the lens is much clearer ,but the fungus has created an unremovable patch on the optical coating , it's a shame , nevertheless it was fun to do . Merry Christmas & a happy new year .
@@julianrobertson3303 Hi, merry Christmas and happy new year to you too. I've never seen that kind of damage in this lens but I'm not surprised either as this was (is) a cheap lens and therefore my guess is not very strong coatings were used. It is a fun lens to use nevertheless. 😊

I found a perfect setting for my 105mm 1.8. I set the aperture right bewtween the 1.8 and 2.8 clicks. This would be about 2.3. Stopping down this small amount gives me much better sharpness on my subject and still allows for lovely background blur.

Cela me semble correct.
Salutations.
On a very similar subject I was wondering if the Nikon 35-135 f/3.5-4.5 is the same cleaning process ?, the lens looks exactly the same as the 35-75 . f2.8 ?.
It should disassemble similarly, but the optical construction is for sure different. Best.
Thank you for your amazing support , my second 35-70mm f/2.8 lens arrived from Ebay , I successfully cleaned the lens and I can now refit the front element focus without any problem as I have had plenty of practice . Unfortunately the rear of the lens is are two lenses that are sealed together , these lenses had coating distortion blotches at the side of the elements , these elements are cemented together so I couldn't clean in between ,the small blotches wasn't that bad & the lens worked perfectly with no picture quality loss , nevertheless I decided to sell that lens very cheap . I think these elements can very carefully be separated by cutting through the cement & refitted with industrial tape ?.
Hi, I have never tried to separate that specific element as it is on a metal casing and have always managed to find a replacement. I don't think it is real doublet either. I need to take a look one day at that to figure a lasting solution. Best.
I just done the same with my Nikon Z7ii and when I put it back together no power. 🙈
Mmmmm, that's not good, hope you find a solution. Best.
Podre hacer los mismo con un sigma 150-600mm? 😔
Saludos
Would it work to use a clip in filter for a full spectrum camera to adjust for backfocus? I was thinking that I could then switch between clear, HA, Oiii and Sii.
You have completely removed the filters in front of sensor? If so, clip filters should work assuming their thickness is at least the same as the original filter. Cheers.
