Thanks a lot! You saved me from returning the lens !
Excellent comparison. I too own both F 2 & 2.8 at the same focal lengths on most of my primes; in fact - if I were to choose between the two - I'd have the wider aperture in most scenarios, but unless this is your main occupation, there's very little to discriminate, there is however (in 2024) quite a large void in prices between the two ultimate apertures (no prizes for guessing which is the pricier version). Superb analyses !
Hi, thanks, I'll naturally go to the wider aperture too as it contains the smaller too. I agree, the difference between 2 and 1.4 is usually double in price, and the less common 1.2 can sometimes skyrocket. These days I look into really old glass, my favorite one right now being the Nikkor 35 1.4 from 1971. Cheers.
Pregunta.
Saludos.

Hi, yes, I added the link on the video description. Best.
Excellent upload -- both classics. I recently wanted a 100mm(-ish) full-frame F-mount portraiture lens. I went with the Nikkor 105mm f2.8 Micro AF-D. Reasons: 1. Price (around $150 US for clean sample), 2. Versatility (also an excellent macro lens), 3. Autofocus (screw drive, which I prefer), 4. Close Range Correction (CRC) the "zenith" imo of Nikkor optical design. 5. Close focus capabilities. Unlike other portrait lenses no real constraint on how close you can be to the subject. Although these classics are very tempting, for me I made the right decision. Any 105mm (and beyond) prime is going to give you great portraits.
Hello, I can add very little to your analysis as it is totally spot on. I also have the 105mm AFD, and like it a lot, I usually take it when I need an all rounder. The ones in the video are legendary lenses, the 105 f/2.5 is super sharp and color rendition is fantastic. The f/1.8 eis even sharper and produces great bokeh, the dream would be to have the three merged on a single lens.
Saludos
I have one, it’s on my FG at the moment and I will be using it tomorrow. I managed to find both Thai conversion ring and the wired lens hood for it. A normal lens cap won’t fit over the hood, but I managed to buy a Hoya screw-in cap and a 52 mm filter thread spacer ring from SRB here in the UK, and these together will fit over the hood. I have actually used it as intended with flashbulbs, it was quite a good idea at the time; I think it was introduced in 1964. I bought my one about 20 years ago.
@@srfurley it's a very interesting lens, maybe a bit too small. Never tried it with flash myself, the results are good? Cheers.
Hi, Thank you very much for this video. Can you please tell me the dimensions of the GPU in 7520? Is it MXM 3.0b or MXM 3.0a? I want to order them before i start this job.
Hi, I don't know, the one I have installed is Nvidia Quadro m2200m, I hope this info is useful. Cheers.
Is it 82 mm X 70 mm (type A) or 105 mm x 82 mm(type B) ?
@@user-oj1ng4pv4i hello, it's mxm-a. Best
Hi. Based on your review, I might prefer the 50mm 1.4 to the 1.8 g. They seems to be both good. I have the 24-70mm f2.8 (a powerfull beast) on a d850. Would it be a big improvment at 50mm to use one of these prime lens compared to my zoom?
My opinion may be biased because I prefer prime lenses. We'll with the 50 1.4, you'll be two stops faster than with your zoom and that can make the difference in low light conditions. You'll get more bokeh if that's something you're interested in. Best.
@@diyextravaganza thanks, i'm looking for a better bokeh, maybe better colors, sharpness or some caracter to a prime lens. This 1.4 may not be that sharp but gives some charms to the pics you've done. My Zoom for the job, versatility, efficiency, and a few prime lens for better result and a bit of fun. Thanks for your answer and good day ^^
@@hyperion2502 you're welcome, if you have the budget, I recommend the 58mm 1.4G, it has what you mentioned ,test it before buying because it is a love it or hate it lens. I personally love it.
I hope you remembered to replace the spacer ring you left out during the reassembly of the rear group of lens elements.
I did that? LoL, I did not have any loose parts at the end, so the answer is yes.

Hello, You mentioned that both GPUs that you have are in parallel so they act as if they are a single one. Do you mean that they are connected with NVlink? Do you have a "proof" that both are used? (For instance in task manager). I'm wondering since only one is shown as selected un Fluent. Thank you!
Hi, I configured them to act as one, using the suitable adapter. If I remember correctly, it was not allowing me to select both in such situation. I cannot test since I changed GPUs a few months ago, I'm using a single Quadro RTX 5000 now.
@@diyextravaganza Many thanks for your answer. Do you remember if both GPU were working (especially, if for large meshes both memory were used) ? I'm preparing to put a new workstation to the budget, but I hesitate with a few options. Either RTX 4000 Ada (or slightly better), or rather cheaper models but 2 or 3 of them (e.g., RTX A2000 12 GB or RTX 2000-Ada 16GB). Depending on the models, I could plan to buy 1 first and then upgrade to 2 or 3 (even for the 4000 Ada). As far as I know, Ampere chips (A2000 etc.) support NVlink, but not Ada Lovelace chips. I'm unsure how the native GPU solver of Fluent behaves with several GPUs, especially for Ada generation.
@@tea-hash-sea Yes both where used, in case where mesh was big enough to require it. However, this seemed to limit a bit the performance as you have both GPUs exchanging info. For this particular reason (and because I found ridiculously cheap), I upgraded to an Quadro RTX5000, and I've tested it with the native GPU solver and it is lightning fast. I made a video about it, but you saw it already as you put a comment there. Cheers
@@diyextravaganza Thanks for the info!

As I go along I might ask a futher question. thks I'll share your channel everywhere, it deserves to be seen
Hi, glad you appreciate my videos, feel free to aks questions anytime. And yes, please share my channel with as many friends as you can.
Interesting comparison. I thought the Yongnuo is much better due to its newer design. Did you realize that the sweet spot of the Nikon 50/1.8G is at around f13? It is already very good at f4, but still gradually improves till about f13 which is a very pleasent news fot those who need the additional DoF for lanscapes relative to a typical sweet spot of f5.6.
Hi, I don't think the design of the yongnuo is particularly new (but I haven't checked), the 50mm prescription is well established by now. About the Nikkor getting better, I did not paid attention to be honest. But in my opinion, the Nikkor offers the best trade-off quality price out there. Best..

Hola, amigo.
Saludos.

Nice review ☺️ But may I please add some useful info😊 The 105mm f2.5 lens you have is Ai-s later version which is so called Gauss type 5 elements 4 groups, production started in 1971... All the lenses before that between 1954 and 1971 are actually completely different design, so called Sonnar type 5 elements 3 groups... Key difference to distinguish the Sonnar older type is a bit longer lens barrel when on infinity, and rare element is smaller in diameter... Older Sonnar version is a bit softer wide open, a bit less contrasty, with classic Sonnar bokeh, with more 3d pop and colder colour shift, perfect for videography... Newer Gauss type is a bit sharper, with excellent colours and contrast, perfect for stills.😊
Great info, thanks for sharing!
Hola, amigo.

Hello, correction, is SKF LGLT2
The SKF LGMT 2 is not very adapted for lenses, it tends to separate a lot (meaning, separation oil from thickener), leaving a stiff focus and oily diaphragm.

Omg bro, you read my mind. If I may please make a video just for Cyclop 85/1.5. Thank you very much.
Hi, glad the video is spot-on for you. About the cyclop, if I ever cross paths with one in need of help, absolutely. Don't forget to share with friends !
Un placer verte trabajar....habilidad,paciencia,y mucho detalle....gracias🍀🍀
Gracias hombre, un abrazo !
Thank you for the video, does it work for 44K4 pentax mount?
Hi, my guess is that besides the bayonet the construction is otherwise the same, so, yes. Proceed in any case with care and do your markings at each critical step !
Good video, I have also this lens with 1 visible dust spot I want to clean. Do you need to mark the front element to fix it with the little screw or does that don't matter. You use screw it back until it stops then?
Normally you must put in the same position as there is a small groove to receive the set screw. Otherwise, you'll deform the thread. Best.
@@diyextravaganza Thanks! I'll mark it to be safe :)
Very nice job...congrats! What you uses to disolve the old glue? Just Isoptopyl Alcohol is enougth? I have the same lens with the same problem and I will clean it like you done. Please let me know how you removed the old glue
Hi, isopropyl alcohol, 99.9% pure. That's all. Best.
Thanks, I've got also a copy with haze. With your video, I'm thinking of cleaning it myself!
Great, hope you manage without trouble, I think the video is explicit enough, but if you have questions, do not hesitate. Best.
why not compare f/1.8?
I did not have the 1.8, which is think it is slightly more uncommon than the 1.4 or 2, at least where I live. Best.
Does this also apply to the D90?
No, the D90 is a very different camera, I've done it already, more difficult though. More important, it has 2 pieces of glass, so the filter (quartz) , must be 2mm thicker. Best
Ottimo video, gentilmente puoi spedire manuale di riparazione, grazie!
Thanks a lot, I'm not sure I've the repair manual, I need to check, and if so, where should I send it.

Gracias mi amigo !

Do you have any link for the grease or an alternative? Thx
Hi, for the link, it will really depends were are you located, for an alternative, you can look for a grease, with lithium soap thickener, and low viscosity (around 20mm^2/s ) at 40°C.
Any tips for stripped screws on lenses?
If the screw head is done, the real solution is to drill until the head falls and use pliers if possible, if not, drill the screw and re-tap the thread. There is really no easy solution. If the head still has something of a imprint, I use a big screwdriver to have a lot of torque and push with all my weight at the same time, I've put some acetone before, works most of the time. Best
Hello great video! I just wondered which glue do you recommend? Thanks
The traditional one that has been used for generations is the "Canada balsam", this is the one I use.
Thank you! I'm in the process of separating a doublet for a tokina 80-200 2.8 but in the acetone method is taking too long I will try the oven method if no success in acetone!
It's is possible to separate again if any mistakes?
@@jhonatandavid9448 it is possible, but you have to go thru the whole process again, which is lengthy. Best
Great Video!
Thanks, feel free to share it with friends!
