On the PS4 I lost access to my games THAT WERE ON THE CONSOLE till I called the company and they restored access. It is literally ON MY CONSOLE. You're not stopping pirates you're just screwing over actual buyers.
And this is why I switched to PC and try to avoid Steam and the like in favor of GOG when ever I can so that exactly that kind of "You don't own it you rent it and we control it" crap can't just happen to me.

Yes, but that's to identify what games you have in the first place. Even if you've downloaded a game, Steam has no idea whether or not you pirated it unless you previously logged in so that Steam remembers "oh yeah you have this"
I'm seriously about to get a crack for gta 5 for this reason. I mostly just want to play it offline and without fail I go to play it and the launcher wants me to login again when I don't have internet AND I always end up forgetting my password when I go to login again

FREAKING PREACH!! This is so true speaks to my SOUL. I live in the country and we have had internet trouble for years. My neighbor ACROSS THE STREET has internet for a local provider, but we cannot get service from the same provider. Luckily technology has improved enough that we get internet from our cell phone carrier and that works well enough(but still not great). I personally hate that so many thing need to connect to the internet to function with the bare basics. So I totally understand your frustration. The internet is a great tool but when it is REQUIRED on something that shouldn't need it, it is nothing but a burden
And this point why even press a DVD a CD would still be more than enough. To think that Ubisoft of all companies actually put for there more recent South Park game the full game on 3 DVD's for the boxed copy for a full install really makes the competition for this kind of crap look even worse because it clearly shows that the companies still can just release the games on physical media there just refuse to because there want to force there Steam DRM on us.

I live close enough to one of the state's major metropolitan areas that I can get internet and cel data if I star around here just fine, but once I get far enough away from that there's this whole vastness of space where I'll be lucky to get anything more than like 0.2G cellular data
Patter, I related to this video so much. It's not even funny how much I related to it. I hate so much how much technology is starting to rely on the internet. Don't get me wrong, the internet is amazing, but the reliance on it without other offline alternatives for so many of these things is a problem.

This entire thing is the same issue we are dealing with graphics in video games. We are pushing consoles to get super high graphics rather then focusing on the games being good and stable... what happens when we hit the best graphics? You just spent so long racing and selling your product on something which has no meaning. You have no selling point now. It is almost like we should think about where we are going and what things are like now... and then realize that rushing for the future is absolutely stupid. We are going to hit best graphics and internet everywhere no matter what... so why not just make things work and we'll get internet all the time everywhere when it happens.
One time I broke my switch screen so I bought a new one, and downloaded my save data via the cloud and one day I went to summer camp and the WiFi didn’t work on switch because it had too many devices connected to it and I tried to go on a game and it was like “you can’t play your game because we can’t check if you have the save data you ALREADY DOWNLOADED on an OFFLINE GAME”

I used to work for an ISP (10 years ago, but I digress). There's so much government regulation, right of ways, and monopolies that definitely contribute to limited internet access in rural areas. But keep in mind that, when compared to countries with more available internet, the US is EXTREMELY spread out. That said, these companies need to invest more in rural areas. I feel like we're definitely going to go more and more into "the cloud", so although you make some REALLY good points, I don't see that going backwards 🤷🏼♂️
Oh my gosh, yes! Here in Australia, there's quite a few places where you can't even pay with card, where cash is essential, because there is no internet for that stuff to work. And then there's these banks trying to get us to stop using cash and only use card (at least in advertising, nothing is really stopping you from having cash).
For the Windows side of things, there's a tool called Windows Update Blocker on Github that works well. Just grab it, run it as admin, select "SHADDAFUCKUP" aka "Disable Updates" and check off "Protect Settings" then apply. Little shield icon will turn red when you do it, now you can close that and re-enable it later if you ever need to do something Microsoft related that won't work for some reason.

Fun fact you can set timers for certain times with Google assistant like you can ask it to set a timer for 10am and it will set a 2 hour timer or something

I used to work for an ISP (10 years ago, but I digress). There's so much government regulation, right of ways, and monopolies that definitely contribute to limited internet access in rural areas. But keep in mind that, when compared to countries with more available internet, the US is EXTREMELY spread out. That said, these companies need to invest more in rural areas. I feel like we're definitely going to go more and more into "the cloud", so although you make some REALLY good points, I don't see that going backwards 🤷🏼♂️

Oh my gosh, yes! Here in Australia, there's quite a few places where you can't even pay with card, where cash is essential, because there is no internet for that stuff to work. And then there's these banks trying to get us to stop using cash and only use card (at least in advertising, nothing is really stopping you from having cash).
For the Windows side of things, there's a tool called Windows Update Blocker on Github that works well. Just grab it, run it as admin, select "SHADDAFUCKUP" aka "Disable Updates" and check off "Protect Settings" then apply. Little shield icon will turn red when you do it, now you can close that and re-enable it later if you ever need to do something Microsoft related that won't work for some reason.
