An exceptionally innovative groove. This is the first time that I've ever heard a traditional Japanese Samisen utilized in a jazz fusion composition. This is EPIC! Also, the use of the traditional Japanese open holed flute, in a jazz composition for the first time in my experience. This provides a beautiful fluidity to the solo spot. Juna's own bass playing was predictably amazing. She has a subtlety to her playing that sets her style apart from all others. By turns graceful... and fluidly smooth. She has rhythmic precision, without her tone assuming that common "hard edge"...that is the mark of an amateur. No, Juna's playing is velvet soft and smooth, while still retaining the bottom end precision that is so essential to groove's establishment. Her playing always makes me smile! I can't emphasize enough, the level of difficulty in playing a bass guitar at this level of achievement. A players hand strength has to be very high, to phrase and to mute with this kind of sensitivity. Juna is still very young yet... so I look forward to hearing her talents for a great many more years yet.

All three ladies give superb performances, and I am a special fan of Shinobu Kawashima's amazing uses of the shamisen in all kinds of genres. But I noted above that this piece (Kunoichi) was composed by Juna Serita and the video was produced and edited by Juna as well. So much talent. Also impressive how Juna (probably the biggest name of the three) yields the stage to the two other ladies in the video presentation. And Aria Shinbo's flute virtuosity is hauntingly melodious. Just bravo to all three ladies for this extremely enjoyable fusion piece.

The late great Stevie Ray Vaughan used to perform wearing a kimono. This he picked up from watching Jimi Hendrix perform in a kimono. Nice connection to this amazing group and culture. Love from Aotearoa/New Zealand.

It's a shame this is not brought out online, I wouldn't mind paying for a high quality download of this as I keep coming back to it. The Shamisen turns out to be *way* more subtle than I originally picked up, and it's a testament to the excellent work of mixing engineer Masayuki Minato that that is audible and well balanced. Beautiful piece of work from impressive artists.
