I've watched hours of videos on the AT and your review covered so much more than any other. I learned a lot. Thank you from Wisconsin (USA).
I'm a GSA man through and through , had four.. but I must say, that's one good looking bike, had loads of Honda's and my old man was a Honda man before BMW came to the fore ...
I have a 2021 ATAS, love it! Put on a fork air dam and the wind is smooth!
But they are sooo iconic! My dream bike back in the day. Ride safe Mr Mike
Excellent review. You have captured all of the key information about this bike. I like the lower screen on the Africa Twin because it conveys the essentials to the rider. You can also add soft luggage pannier racks as well. Love my Africa Twin.
Love your review-real-life, unique and useful to real riders like me, not everybody is going to Dakar their bikes...
Great review constructive conclusion as always. I have a 2021 ATAS ES plus manual, comes with all the luggage inner bags, wind deflectors, engine bars and centre stand. 2 years in I love it, it's a keeoer. I use a handlebar bag for the phone to link up even though I have a tank bag just fond it easier. If you go to user 2 set the power to max and engine braking to minimum the throttle will seem way smoother
Nice bike ehhh :-) I have 22000 km on my 2020 ATAS DCT es, and love it! Drive it all over BC, Rockies, Van Island, and forestry roads. Wonderful multi week ADV bike!
Thanks for the info, really appreciate actual owners reviews. I’m planning to pull the trigger in 9 months. Aso looking at e Suzuki GX
I like this colour scheme and the fact that this doesn't have a big beak sticking out up front like some AB's. Be interested what you think of the Motto Guzzi V100 Mandello if you can bag a test ride on one Toby.
I gotta correct you at 9:44 . You can’t edit Tour, Urban, Gravel and Off-road modes on it. You can only configure User1 and User2 modes. But you can set the overall compression rebound and damping on ES version. I have the ES DCT Adventure Sports MY22. I adore the bike. My biggest regret is getting the ES version as I am quite heavy (125kg, 20 stones) ATM. I would rather get the non-ES version and use the saved money to buy suspension that fits me and my riding style. Other than that - the bike is simply marvelous.
Edit: 13:06 - regarding the jerkiness of the throttle. It’s a slight annoyance but it’s way smoother on power mode one click less than the one on Tour Mode. Switch to Urban and the jerkiness is gone.
Hi, can you explain why do you regret electronic suspension? How your weight affect the suspension? I am wondering in switching my CRF1100 manual suspension to CRF1100 AS electronic suspension, but your comment is interesting tbh. I would like to change it because high speed damping is very harsh for me (I am about 120 kg while in helmet, jacket, pants and shoes.
If you have the DCT the blinker switch is perfectly placed as the thumb comes up off the downshift button onto the indicator naturally, very nice when coming up to an intersection
Great video as usual guys. I got my my bike in August last year with the manual gearbox and electronic suspension. The switchgear is easy to use once you get used to it so ignore the people who slag it off!! Handles really well and plenty of power when needed. Without a doubt the best looking adventure bike out there as it has always been😁👏🏻
I watched several reviews but it is hard to find anything without DCT. Yours fits my needs. Wish to see a second review on other roads. More open and if you get one of yours then off road as well. With a comments how it feels. Cheers 👍
I like manual, to blip the throttle on down shift! But the dct is really amazing, u just don't get the blip on down shifts!
good video, looked like a good ride. Well done covered the bike and features really well.
Super review Toby. Best wishes.
Very good, unusually balanced and light-hearted review. It's an awesome bike, I've just ordered a DCT.
Happy with it?
@@TheFbiFilesRepeat It's a beauty, I'm very happy with it! Now owned it since March and done 2,700 pleasurable miles on it.
I rode the 23 v storm 1050de. I was very impressed by the smooth engine and power! Very comfortable to ride. Then I hopped on the AT dct base model.....blew me away! I want a thumpy twin, low down torque, it gave me that! It absorbed the bumps so much better, knee down on corners, front end up powering out! I felt I was on a BMX with an engine! My only worry is tubed tyres! I'm hoping I enjoy the adventure sport just the same, but the larger tank maybe a problem off road in stand up stance. I find out tomorrow!
Enjoy and ride safe buddy
@@RiderCamTV bless you! Well I rode the ATAS es manual. Now I know it's the ATAS es dct for me! The extra size isn't a problem for me. Great looking bike! Probably go for a 2021/ 22 very low miles with a few extras on it! Be about £15k! Also rode the ktm 1290sas, it's a ballistic missile, nothing off roading about it! Pegs are to small to stand up, soooooo much heat from the engine, was very hot! Hard seat, low bars, but fast....very very rapid! Not for me thou! It's been 3mths of research, utube, adventure forums etc etc! The only reason I not going for the Africa twin base model is the tubed tyres! I don't wanna spend £2500 getting wheels for tubeless tyres! Just got a save a little more!
Hopefully the build quality on the 2023 is better than the 2018 ATAS, love Hondas but was disappointed with some of the paint work on the frame of mine
Yamaha 9gt also has cornering lights
Think the seat height is 850mm/870mm (not 820).
850. Can be lowered to 835 or higher to 895😎
One problem is on this africa twin must be plugged cable but is on vibration all phones disconnected... My frend modified and add permanent wireless attachment. Cost £100
Working perfectly
You can buy a blue tooth device to plug into the usb that makes the cable irrelevant Thanks for the video
thanks for the into.. didn't know that :)
Good video gents. Great to see Toby back to cod pieces and buttock cupping. Ride safe. When are you doing your next ride out for your subscribers? Enjoyed last year.
We are planning for August. Ride safe
How does Afican Twin compare with the BMW on the pavement twisties and the abs braking compare between the 2 bikes ? Thanks
I have one, had it for 6 months now, I fit a quick shifter, its lovely. Two things the buffeting, optional extras pyramid cover on tank over forks, puig little deflector screen and hond optional wind deflectors £250 to sort, but perfect now. The controls are my only gripe but sorted eventually. 1" bar risers and twist the left grip up to make the controls usable. I was forever putting hazards on or pressing horn rather than indicators. Lovely bike, I went for Honda as I have a BMW boxer, I love the bike and especially engine but didn't want Two bikes same. Shaft drive ride and forget were as I forgot how much hassle and time a chain takes errr.
Positive you can run it with absolutely no detrement to performance or engine on cheep e10 supermarket petrol.
GET THIS!
Great video guys can I ask what kit Toby is wearing as I’m looking for new kit especially the jacket keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for the kind words buddy. I was wearing a Klim Kodak jacket and Klim badlands pro trousers
Great review, did it have the electronic suspension on it as this was not mentioned. I’m looking at getting the 2023 Adventure Sport in Canada and it only comes with the electronic suspension and am wondering how it compares to the regular suspension.
I would think better as you can firm or soften, customize very detailed to what you like.
If you’re weighing more than 100KG and you put protection bars on it, or if you run it with full set of panniers it’s really not worth going for ES. I have the ES DCT MY22 and I can’t wait to replace the springs on it. It’s made for a rider of 70-80kg. I’ve put 15kkm on it since July last year, and it’s otherwise a perfect bike. But no one can expect a perfect fit for all from factory.
@@Honda_Africa_Twin The only reasons I was considering the Adventure Sports version was the new adjustable windscreen and the tubeless tires. Everything else I can easily add to the regular twin and I don’t need the larger fuel tank. I have spent hours reading reviews and youtube videos and it seems that everyone is having trouble with wind buffeting on the regular twin.
@@Honda_Africa_Twin , so did you ride both the manual and DCT version? How did you make your decision? What really stood out for you that made you choose DCT over manual? I think about 1/2 of all AT sold are DCT so there must be something special about it. Would you ever go back to manual if you updated to a newer AT in the future?
Watching this after seeing your Transalp vid which I find very helpful.
The AT is a 2nd option. You're hardly as ethused.
Btw, the second LCD speedo must be there when you're using car play...
Those are the same mirrors as my 2015 NC700X DCT
Hi do u feel a click in your clutch lever when you clutch in to shift gears ?
Can’t say we did
Hey! Great review. You covered all the details really well. I have a question - How's the wind bufetting on this model compared to the 2020/2021 Africa Twin Adventure Sports? (Coz they've shortened the screen quite a bit. I hate the on on my 2021 AT and thus I've taken it off entirely)
I haven’t suffered with the buffeting even with an adventure style peaked helmet. Ride safe
It’s getting close to the GS, on trying to find yours in the car park. It also wins the; most buttons, In the switch gear competition.
At seventy, with more than fifty years of riding long and hard, one of my bikes is an AT DCT. In my opinion, it’s a good motorcycle made great by the DCT. The main reason I won’t buy a 2023 model is because I want to know when the next generation AT will be released. The DCT has already had two evolutions (three if you include the most recent software update) and it now works better with the bike as a whole. What could be next makes me hesitant to buy what’s available now. As for the manual version? It’s nice but not for me; for the same price there are more engaging bikes out there.
But phones on the handle bars get ruined… I have a quad lock, it broke 2 of my phones gyroscopes. That’s being said great bike! And I think It will be my next one
Perhaps wait until the new BMW GS 1300 comes out before considering a switch !!
Is it possible to connect the headset by wire?
not sure what you mean buddy
If the bike drop brake and clutch lever snap this handGuard doesn't work, it is gadget
That’s the 22 colours I think. 2023 has the red frame.
It seems like the same colors since it was introduced, but thanks.
Too tall for my vertically challenged legs. And always thought the front wheel looked too far away from the main body to make it ascetically pleasing, plus the switchgear is too fussy. Makes my old GS switch gear look stone age in comparison. It covers my three-strike rule so I was never going to get one.
I’ve had mine since August last year. Went for electronic suspension and manual gearbox. The switchgear is really easy to use once you get used to it. With out doubt the best looking adventure bike out there!
How do you know that you are a British Rider? You must hate the Keyless function :)
You don't have to mount your phone on the handlebars. I use a quadlock wireless charger on a givi bar mount so the phone sits horizontaĺly above main screen.
Love Keyless !
End faffing !
33:11 Has to be one the most stupid designs on a bike of all time, leaving the indicators on as running lights. So if there's a car waiting to pull out of a junction and just glances right without much thought (as people often do!) and sees the indicator light is on they're going to think you're indicating left and pull out.
Whoever thought this was a good idea needs shooting with their own shit! Just put normal white running lights on like every other vehicle and if there isn't a way to turn this feature off then this alone would stop me buying this bike.
Software upgrade available! Honda have addressed this problem, or so I'm lead to believe from another utuber with that problem!
Totally agree, i said this when i first saw them, i'm sure bmw do the same now, i'm suprised there has'nt been a load of recorded incidents related to this issue.
As everyone says (comments below) the switchgear is so awful no one should go near this bike.
(and I write that as someone who picked up a new Honda yesterday!) CRF450RX ! ❤
Apple car play is ugly as hell !
