    Hey Zack, I'm totally "blown away" by the tool chests you guys have !! You guys have got it ALL !! Every tool you could possibly need !! You must have thousands of dollars invested, just in tools alone !! I guess that's part of your cost of doing business ? I'm more than impressed, my friend. Just love following you, your Dad, Jim, Becky and, of course, your kids !
    Oh, add your dogs, too !! Keep your GREAT sense of humour !!

  • @markwheeler202

    The scale of the corn harvesting process these days would have been unimaginable to me as a little kid in the late fifties. My grandpa had a one-row tow-behind corn picker that he used to harvest. My dad was just starting out on his own small farm, and I remember helping pick corn by hand. My dad converted an old hay wagon for corn harvesting, with a bangboard in the middle. He'd park it in the field and then pick the ears off with a special handheld husking tool and bounce them off the bangboard from however far he could toss them, then move down the field a bit and repeat. The ears would then be shoveled into our corn crib, which was maybe 12' long and 4' wide. He only did that for a couple years, then switched to soybeans after our neighbor bought an Allis Chalmers combine, which he let us use.
    My dad also put up hay for the cows, using an old horse mower and a dump rake. He would throw the hay piles by pitch fork onto the hay wagon. The hay would be put up loose in the barn by hay fork. Hard to fathom how this could have occurred in my lifetime.

      I do have one question being that I was raised on a farm. I am curious why you would harvest acreage which did not have such a good yield normally and not get your best yield first if there were issues of bad weather coming and possible lose of part of the crop. I am sure there is a perfect explanation, just thought I would ask.

    • @SoybeanFarmer3300
      @SoybeanFarmer3300 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sunny W - on my land areas to be harvested first has to do with not tracking weed seed, fungus or other diseases to areas not yet infected. a combine is a sure fire way to move these undesirables from one acre to another.

Florence gave me 7.5 inches of rain and thank God no real wind damage. at least Michael is projected to be fast moving. speak a Word of Faith and say my plants will withstand the storm. then believe what you said so you are protected. there is a power in the spoken Word. God spoke His creation into existence. Jesus said "peace be still" to kill a storm. you say, my plants are going to do a little wind dance and be just fine. I am by no means a farmer but with me living in the country and the countless times I have been stuck between machinery and have cars try to pass when it is unsafe I will always protect the farmer and try to block that car from passing when it is unsafe. Even when machinery are in the road or semis are in the road and getting loaded from the tractors I will always pull in on a angle to block that other lane so that car can't get through until it is safe to do so.

    The townies sometimes need to be reminded that the roads were built to
    facilitate farm money in the first place. It's just that they get to use the roads
    the 364 and 44/100s days of the year. It's like the interstates were intended
    to facilitate the military and convoys get grumpy looks from minivans.
    It's a hoot seeing people trying to tailgate tanks, what? are we going to be
    intimidated? It's better to hang back some in case one of those 5lb blocks
    of rubber flies off the track.

    I have the utmost respect for the big farmers I live among. I do my tiny micro hobby farming so I'm bias a bit maybe in supporting farming, but I always give guys room, don't rush to pass implements on the road etc. I drive my tractor down the road sometimes too so I feel for them. My farming is micro scale for fun so I'm never serious with my movements, but I understand those around me that are depending on it for a living.
