I've been using this type (but other brands) of gloves for many years. They're not just for cut protection but also abrasion (if you've ever tried to brake yourself after slipping on a rocky slope you can imagine when they're useful). But I've read the standard and tested worn out pairs and is under no illusion they're much good against an attack which some people seem to think they are. The standard's lowest requirement for puncture resistance is only 20N (~2 kg): I can easily put the tip of a knife through both sides of an empty glove using just two fingers. The EN 388 cut test counts how many cuts it takes for a blade with a force of 5N (~0.5 kg/1 lb) to slice through: so no surprise using just three fingers I can slice off a finger of an empty glove. This type of glove is primarily made to protect against accidents, like if you're emptying someone's pocket which happens to contain an undisclosed razor blade. Not deliberate cuts. Have two left gloves after losing two right gloves and had planned on doing a video, without food in them, but that's of course better than empty gloves.
Urban F good comment anything sharp delivered with enough force especially the tip of a knife will penetrate its interesting how you broke it down into levels of newtons of force its surprising how little force or effort is required to still cut through even hard dyneema fabric if a person conducted a determined attack on you wearing these im sure a knife could get through but at least they offer you better than average protection a fighting chance! better than nothing! i guess!!
NEW GEN SCOUT thanks for the headsup gen scout we have such a hard time already just keeping them wild yanks from pulling on those twitchy trigger fingers!! do the kind of gloves make any differences? they sound good are they predominantly usa based product or global where do you look for em? what outlet the fire retardent gen issue d gloves gauntlets are ok too mechanix etc oakleys etc but for this specific task of fending off blades or hard objects they sound good to go!! any info welcome!! thanks for your reply and headsup much appreciated best wishes dave

I've been looking for some work gloves with EN388 4544 max level of protection that would also be black (not white, or some bright colour...) and inexpensive to use outdoors. My search is ongoing
I've learned to avoid hardware supermarkets and tactical shops. Visited a safety work clothing dealer instead. A pair of UHMW (basically Dyneema) gloves from Czechia is €3. 4543 level protection, so not quite exceeding the EN388 norm in its entirety, but close. They look like the liner in yours. Two downsides are that it's troublesome to buy just one pair instead of a pack, and that you'll look like a waste collector without leather outer gloves haha
looks nice . but this paticular model is a made in Taiwan, and up close inspection shows it is cheapy construction. doesnt stop it being sharp as buggery though.
Humble Trekker did it come that sharp outa the ka bar box or did you have to put your own edge on it? most popular knives are now made in taiwan they have good steel mills and production capacity there most mt bike frames are also made there for the big names bridgestone make frames for hundreds of other name brands its the design that is often more important rather than where it is made! sog has its knives made in taiwan also their quality is usually ok? chinas fast pikn up also where weve left off as theyre coming out with better n better quality design knives for a thirds of the cost prices now of other knifes in west not equally comparable that would cost 3x more if made in the west using the same steel or similar materials $20 as opposed to a $200 knife made by hand or knifemaker if the quality is off its got to be down to mass productions at factory and somebody not keeping an closer eye on it at the factorys quality control dept but in general ka bar offer pretty good value robustness for the money! and some older classic designs the purists will.say the older models are more authentic what the marine corps used to get issued with but as a co i think theyre gen ok reliable n cheap its quite a nice looking knife for between $43-$70 it has a decent sized and shaped blade its a very nice looking knife! aesthetically with a good hammer end on it these classic designs often stay arounds for a reason!! peoples just like them!! if you like knives you have just got to own a bowie knife havent you? theres no point in owning a knife without being able to scare somebody!!! usually the gen public or the police :) theres nothing like doing a bit of solitary bushcrafting out in the woods when suddenly a drone and a loudhailer swat team shows up for sausages!! :)

There is one great disadvantage of Dyneema compared to Kevlar: it will melt when near a heat source. Kevlar is very heat resistant. If you expect that you may use your gloves near fire (like, you first cut kindling etc. and then put a cooking pot on the fire), better not use a model with a Dyneema lining (or any glove made of such material, lined or not). I'd prefer Kevlar-lined gloves for that reason. I'm a hot-air balloon pilot and can tell you horrible anecdotes about nylon or polyester clothes melting into people's skin during a small flash fire or when getting too much heat from the burners during inflation. Our control ropes (that we pull to open vents etc. during flight) are generally polyester with a Kevlar core to prevent them from melting all the way through when they get too close to the burner flame. Never nylon. Never Dyneema. When around my balloon I either wear pure leather gloves or Nomex ones. Try heating these cut-up gloves near a camp fire and see what happens.

we have such a hard time already just keeping them wild yanks from pulling on those twitchy trigger fingers!!
do the kind of gloves make any differences?
they sound good are they predominantly usa based product or global where do you look for em?
what outlet
the fire retardent gen issue d gloves gauntlets are ok too
mechanix etc oakleys etc
but for this specific task of fending off blades or hard objects they sound good to go!!
any info welcome!!
thanks for your reply and headsup

NEW GEN SCOUT these im guessing are the gloves right?

NEW GEN SCOUT yeh i reckon frisking down the wife before you ever get in bed with her chekn her out for weapons to stab you with in yer sleep is about as hard as any a working environment gets!!
i will try them out
mate thanks for the heads up
they are pricey but worth it saves losing yer finger digits or hands to any random knife attacks in london
in sink estates like peckham haringey!
they ought to stamp a medal for veterans operating in those diff hostile environments also?
hehe :)
These gloves are useful for anyone, look like regular gloves but give protection
Happy New Year, Dave! Thanks for the review :)
Cheers! same to you
Good review brother. 👍👊🤘
Good honest review!
Hema practitioners. They wear losbter gauntlets. So no worries about finger cuts and chops.

nice ka bar bowie!! nice looking knife good value is ka bar!!
looks nice . but this paticular model is a made in Taiwan, and up close inspection shows it is cheapy construction. doesnt stop it being sharp as buggery though.
Humble Trekker did it come that sharp outa the ka bar box or did you have to put your own edge on it?
most popular knives are now made in taiwan they have good steel mills and production capacity there
most mt bike frames are also made there for the big names bridgestone make frames for hundreds of other name brands its the design that is often more important rather than where it is made! sog has its knives made in taiwan also their quality is usually ok?
chinas fast pikn up also where weve left off as theyre coming out with better n better quality design knives for a thirds of the cost prices now of other knifes in west not equally comparable
that would cost 3x more if made in the west using the same steel or similar materials $20 as opposed to a $200 knife made by hand or knifemaker if the quality is off its got to be down to mass productions at factory and somebody not keeping an closer eye on it at the factorys quality control dept
but in general ka bar offer pretty good value robustness for the money!
and some older classic designs the purists will.say the older models are more authentic what the marine corps used to get issued with but as a co i think theyre gen ok reliable n cheap
its quite a nice looking knife for between $43-$70 it has a decent sized and shaped blade its a very
nice looking knife! aesthetically with a
good hammer end on it
these classic designs often stay arounds for a reason!! peoples just like them!!
if you like knives you have just got to own a bowie knife havent you?
theres no point in owning a knife without being able to scare somebody!!! usually the gen public or the police :) theres nothing like doing a bit of solitary bushcrafting out in the woods when suddenly a drone and a loudhailer swat team shows up for sausages!! :)
came sharp.
Do they make liners for Kevlar vests because I know that a screw driver can be driven through Kevlar somewhat easily ( pun unitended)
I don't know about liners, there are lots of manufacturers making stab proof vests www.bodyarmornews.com/dyneema-anti-stab/
1:18 ... LOL - 1 to -2 centigrade :) ... Not trying to be crass ... BUT ... that's T-Shirt level in my nieghbourhood :) It was -1 ... two days ago ... I wish I was too! :) ... Once it gets below 0 Degrees Fahrenheit (like -18 C) that is ... which is almost ALL this winter :(
Yeggster Shane you are a polar bear lol
You did do a draw cut on the second finger test though. Not hating, just pointing it out.
yes i like the facts they look like ordinary gloves on outside that dyneema is pretty hard stuff good to use against a slashing attack
although an object like a chair pack or an coat belt wrapped around one arm is also ok
these gloves are a welcome addition as knife crime in uk is on the rise by 44%
usually little s london n london estate based gangs!!
all tooled up
you only got to look at em wrong
whilst passing bye they may decide to try make an example of you!!
it dont take much! :(
If you sharpened the bowie, you might be able to recreate the first cut again.
yeah. they are kinda torn up now. hard to return to it
There is one great disadvantage of Dyneema compared to Kevlar: it will melt when near a heat source. Try heating these cut-up gloves near a camp fire and see what happens.
Interestingly I can find the old gloves I will try and melt them
anything sharp thrust with enough force will often surprise you with what it can penetrate and how deeply too!!
the police will tell you that their anti stab vests at 6mm thick are often totally inadequate to protect them from knife attack these forces are multiplied if you you use a driving force with the tip of an assymetrical knife like a tactical fighting knife or a stilleto
if an arrow or bolt head can penetrate a ceramic armor plate shatter it or penetrate it then a knife can do a lot of damage in skilled hands no matter what you are wearing these gloves are very resistant to stabbing but id say not stabproof as anything presented with sufficient or enough force
will nearly always penetrate!!
a skilled knifefighter often uses that force to the fullest effect!!
these gloves are ok to defend yself with if defending yself from attack or are using sharp tools regularly are an added safety feature to protect your hands with
dyneema is often used in fishing line aswell for its strength in bringing in heavy game fish!
the structure of it is however not bombproof as almost any fabric can be cut no matter how hard the material used
chainmail gloves butchers use would prove better
performing
however divers who have worn chainmail covered wet suits in shark infested waters have often succumbed to crush injuries rather than puncture wounds
the same effect can be produced with use of blunt force or extreme forces of with the momentum used on a knife!! powerful thrust
a tip can often pierce as forces are multiplied at the tip yet less surface area is required to pierce with hence why they chose a narrow profiled stilleto design for the fairbairn sykes knife which can puncture many layers of clothing given enough impact force
ive had a knife cut through 5 seperate layers of clothing & sliced me and nicked my belly trying to save a polish girl from robbing rape attack on a night train this i didnt even feel until id finished the fight and gotten away from scene with girl intact it was her who noticed that i was bleeding i only noticed i was cut as the filling from my duvet jacket started falling out!!
when i looked i could see i was 3inch cut or nicked by a swiping motion from the attackers
id luckily jumped back sucked myself in as this guy came at me from the side as i was dealing with his friend who led the attack on the polish girl
the rest of the carriage emptied out at next station nobody came to our help
and we were stuck on empty night train fighting through 6 london underground stops until i managed to force all 3 attackers off the train physically lifted them whilst on me and launched them out the sliding doors
of the train they stood on platform ready to attack me again but i rebutted 2 more attacks just as the doors shut
i had my back against a pole as to try and stand up on a fast moving train going arounds bends is like trying to have a fight on a rolling ship!!
nobody could properly keep their balances it was a wobbly kinda of a fight
but i remember the brit transport police telling me that i had been lucky and done the right thing
but they couldnt follow the perpetrators cuz the rest of their patrol was out of radio contact on the surface as none of them could get a signal below ground!!
so i had to walk alone on again through empty terminals at 1am 2am with a gang still looking for me only 3mins behind my train
and same platform so i got the polish girl off n away to safety as i had to come back again same way i met up with the gang again and it led to yet another fight
but this time with only one of them as the other 2 never saw me headed the other way the lone guy gave up ran back towards his mates i then disapeared!
spent a night at my mates house
who let me sleep in his alsatian dogs bed the only spare bed he had in the house near to kings cross
london
i then had the dog looking at me all dejected all night
guilt tripping me id taken his only bed
i didnt sleep well had to get patched up very next day as i was so tired bushed from work and travel and fight
i couldnt be arsed going outsides long way again to a nhs hospital for a slight cut 3in wide
but it was surprising how easily a knife tip can penetrate many layers of clothing
the police often get knifemen lift up their stab jackets and then get thrusted in the guts or belly
or they aim for the armpits
whilst wearing an anti stab jkt
that they say is totally crap can be pierced easily with the tip of any knife!!
so a knife cut is never to be underestimated its one of the most dangerous weapons there is as it can cut you on the outward thrust aswell as back on its return journey!
a gun is only dangerous in one direction or way!
a knife in good hands is lethal in diff 2ways!! or directions!
id be very skeptical of any proofness but resistances yes these gloves are resistant of that there is no doubt
david john Huxtable Were the cowards Black or Muslim ????
David john H....im sorry could you 're'-explain every thing you just wrote ? :]
the rest of carriage instead of offering to help just all vacated carriage jumped off train at next station!! peoples are pretty dim witted & cowardly when the chips are down!! had at least one stand up guy offered to help the fight wouldnt have happened theyd have been deterred but 3v1 they thought it would be a pushovers
id not bother to do it again mind i learned my lesson that night stikn yer head n neck out dont often pay out especially as police response was so lame and the reactions of gen public you truly are left on yer own when shtf!!!
so unless you can guarantee coming out of it ok on the right sides id not advise anyone elses to do it unless they are feeling very confident they can pull it off
i had no idea there was a 3rd gang member i thought i was dealing with 2 had it been more than there was id have been toast cuz it was hard enough versus 3!! so i dont think that id necessarily do that again esp with knives involved
i had another incident soon after that that involved 5 with knives
that incident was worse than this one ever was!!
:(
the police actually saw what was going on with that one and cruised slowly bye stuck in rush hour traffic and one pc wound window down and uttered the words you always want to hear when yer surrounded by 5 weapon wielding blacks in haringey wood green tower hamlets area "sorry mate but we cant stop as were on the way to another call"!!
thats the brit or london met police for ya!!
mins later they all pissed themselves laughing at me!! leaping the central barriers to chase off these young blacks with a 27oz framing hammer in my hand after getn popped in jaw my mobile phone taken
they split up all went in diff directions shouting out as they went where next to meet up or rdv next etc whose house etc
as i tracked back i came across same static police car with 5 fat overweight cops sat in it
gave em a piece of my mind asked them what was so fkn funny?
they explained to me that it wasnt anything personal but it just looked hilarious after passing me bye surrounded mins secs earlier to see 5 blacks legging it for their lives fast leaping over the crash barriers landing on bonnet of their car the police car!
they then see me angry as fkk coming over top after them with my claw hammer
n then just burst out laughing they did shout out of window words of encouragement but what fkkd me off instead of getn out of their stationary car on 2nd occasions they could have redeemed themselves but instead they decided to just sit there in slow stationary traffic in their patrol car going nowhere fast laughing their heads off at what was a very real event for me!!
all because of numpty lame brained central command police operational protocols they were supposedly on their way to another emergency call but pedestrians were travelling 3x faster than police car was!! these police crew squad
werent never likely to ever get there on time in their tasked emergency as were virtually stuck stopped dead stationary caught up in rushour traffic!!
going absolutely nowhere fast
i said to them why? couldnt you just have stopped momentarily? then? & then got out to try help me? they told me that their police regs once tasked to do another job call by their command control centre simply would not let them!! :( allow them too :( i thought fkk me!?
so they are authorised sanctioned by police chiefs to drive on bye you!! no matter what yer predicament if they are specifically tasked to attends another incident they must 1st just go to that one incident 1stly and ignore everything elses going on arounds them!! as a matter of procedure!! ignoring the plight of others
which of cse they are very good accomplished at!!
:(
A 17 minute video that should have been 5 minutes long. Keep it short & sweet or people get bored!
its then that you want to do yer crocodile dundee impression pull out a amazonian machete or cold steel trailmaster and say thats not a knife!! but this is a real knife matey!!!
:)
then the young punks all pull out a glock17!!!!
:(
on you!!
like raiders of the lost ark yer knife wielding skills then unfortunately
fail you
this is a real knife!!
neanderthal outdoors reply hiya mate they were young black jamaican yardies out for a prowl late at night trying to feed off the very late lone passenger stragglers from the daily commute travelling home alone late at night!
i hit one of so hard i almost broke my hand he sat there stunned throughout rest of fight never got up again
the others head i put into a side panel near door of persprex split the persprex took some doing i got kicked in gut stomach punched in face slashed etc but actually came outa the encounter relatively lightly compared to what could have transpired they were hassling this young girl art student who had huge portfolio she was all alone needed real help rest of the carriage were afraid to scared to go do anything living in london made me sick place can be compassionless you can witness both very good and bad behaivour there in one day but its never ever consistent or reliable behaivour
its a mad place really
can be good can be bad
but for a country boy like me i found it very confusing
very stressful place to be
so bailed out on it im more used to nature
fresh air hills moors n sea so
living in the shitholes of london didnt quite do it for me
i missed the countryside and coast too much
plus the relative safety of a less larger town city
knife crime has gone up recently all violent crimes have in uk its at epidemic proportions which to be fair police warned govt that it would due to cutbacks and ineffective soft arse policing!!
rise in peoples incl shool kids feeling insecure or a threat from gangs in their area so more persons are gen carrying knives to counter the threat to them in case they get picked on!!
its a sad case or inditement upon the state of our society
it tends to be predominantly black or mixed ethnicity gangs in london and muslim gangs in the north!
i will have to black up next time i go out act like lenny henry
:)
