When is was first starting out i used Mr hobby top coat which is a water based resin, extremely low solid clear (sold in rattle cans), my record was something like 7-8 cans for a single model! that stuff was a bear to deal with, great learning curve though. Now i have an Iwata airbrush and will be testing Zero paint 2k on my current build later this year.
Zore paint 2k Diamond is awesome. I bought the big box $33,- about. And can paint about 12 car bodies with it. Be sure you mix it as said on the instructions, and you get the perfect result. 25 PSI on a 0.5 needle,3 coats and your done. I let it dry for 7 days, but it is normaly hardened at 72-80 hours, depending the temperature.
I've just used the rustoleum clear big can. 340g. 2-3 coats. And my model truck that i just built came out great. $12 Candian. The small can's are way to expensive. There are ways to save yourself some money.
Good information. I started using a 2k clear a couple years ago, ACME brand. Luckily I haven’t had to use a reducer, although it seems a little thick. But it does fine through the airbrush.
How can I get you to ship me some of this stuff? I've been wanting to use 2k but haven't found a good budget friendly solution. And you have sold me on this.
Hello Steve, over said the same for years, lm a retired painter from n a.s.a, ( houston) what l like to use is also a ppg product, ( shop- line) goes over everything, a great video would be a primer and primer- sealer video, and why you don't reduce with lacquer thinner,,. Thanks just subbed to channel, so keep- em coming, lm known as Rockabilly scale kustoms ( later)
🏍️ RustOleum Lacquer Glosscoat is better than Duplicolor Gloss, but only on Duplicolor paint. ModgePodge works well with Tamiya. Don't think that Testors One Coat will go over Tamiya Spray lacquers.
@@mikethebike2456 Do you know of any other paint manufacture making something very similar - in a spray bottle. That works as good. It's getting harder, and more expensive.to get of what's left of Tester's. Thanks.
@@garysmith6895 🏍️ Hobby Lobby seems to have an endless supply of 1834. I bought 6 in a panic. Over what kind of paint are we talking about ? I like ModgePodge Hi Gloss over Tamiya spray cans.
@@garysmith6895 🏍️ Enamels are a dying breed of paint. Even i'm starting to realize that. Both paints you mentioned are discontinued, never to return. No more Testors 1261. Try Krylon Shortcuts Clear. Small cans of enamel. Maybe RustOleum Universal, with a trigger spray. Spaz Stiix Clear is pretty good. After that you're down to floor polish. 🧴
Ι have the max mayer brand gloss one kilo with the hardener half a kilo and reduser a killo cots me 130 euro but I got one of the best of finishes on my models ever¡!!!!! It self levels! No orage peel no nothing..
Great vid, but unfortunately my living conditions is not conducive to spraying enamels or lacquers. I can't put in any ventilation in, so I'm stuck with water based acrylics. That's what sucks about Pledge discontinuing their Revive It (used to be Future) line. I'm now stuck on buying overpriced "model" clear coats. Even painting in my garage, I can only keep the garage door open maybe four months of the year as I live in northern North Dakota and we only have 2 seasons. Winter and road construction ... and winter is (for the purpose of painting) 7-8 months of the year.
I’ve never used this product but all I use is a cheap automotive 2K at $27 a quart kit. The 2K I a 4.1 mix and o have found that reducing it a 1 so o have a 4.1.1 mix I get the best results. Without reducer it has to go on to thick to get it to level out and I lose detail. I little hint is you can also use mr color leveling thinner as well. Also the reducer I use is $14 a quart so all in $40 and I’ve done about 25 models with enough left to do another 15-20.
Yes, you will definitely need to reduce somewhere between 5 to 10% give or take is where at I recommend. These clearers are designed to come out of a gun with a 1.3 to a 1.8 mm tip
You don't need all that 🤣 just go to any Napa and buy there version of 2k it's like 35$ and mix it 4 parts clear and one part hardener spray it at 20psi with a .3 needle and it's fully dry in 24 hours
Great tutorial for the hobbyist. Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s all about enjoying the build and moving on to your next project
My experience is like yours with polishing, I burn through the clear and or paint almost every time I have tried it.... No More!!!
7mins 45 b4 u get to the point. Mayb lay off the sauce while making vids mate.
Very useful tips there. I’m going to have to try and track some of that stuff down. Thanks! 👍

Thanks for the info!! I might just contact you if I can't find those locally. Does it play nice with acrylics?
I use Krylon clear coat rattle cans

🏍️ I tested it and.. i'm wrong. Good stuff.
Do you know if there is a stripper that will remove the finish on a model that has been cleared with 2K without damaging the styrene body?
Yea, sandpaper 😂
I got a dumb question, I don't know if you stated what number of clear coat testors rattle can your using. Is it no. 1834. Thanks.
🏍️It is.

Tester's or Model Master enamel spray can. I figure to try a different top coat. It looks like the top coat your using will probably look better.

I just use the rattle can clear gloss.

using this with a 0.5 needle airbrush, would it still need to be reduced?
