This joke falls on its face due to ignorance. An elephant gun is an improvised weapon using large cartridges that are for the most part, custom made. It comes from african laws restricting the hunt of large game with smaller rounds because the hunted animal, when wounded will kill the hunter or people he has hired to help him. They are "wildcat" rounds. The 50 BMG is in fact the most powerful by far of these rounds. In other words, he is literally carrying an elephant gun but doesn't know it. His design is terrible. And its not clear who but someone doing this nearly died. It is simply an inappropriate round for doing this. The 50 BMG is anti-material round. By its very nature you want a heavy, long barrel, semi-fixed weapon. A machine gun.
@Supadupa Swaggascoopa A Sharps is pretty accurate, but remember most musketballs were .50 caliber. And tbf a Sharps was basically a slightly more modern musket as well.
I have one of these. A couple tips to make loading and unloading a little easier. When chambering a round tighten then cap until it stops, loosen it just a bit and re-tighten. In my experience if you just tighten it and fire it the cap can be difficult to break free and unscrew. When removing a fired round from the chamber use the rim of another 50bmg case and "pop" it free. Cheers!
I feel like there should be a way to extract the round as the cap is unscrewed. Or make it spring loaded somehow so the casing pops out as the cap is unthreaded. It seems wrong to need some other tool to unload it!
@@BMock590 in my opinion the easiest way would be to machine something like a "moon clip" into the cap so that it grips the round by the rim like revolvers do with rimless cartridges. However, once you get used to the way it works it's honestly a very easy system to use. Since you're realistically never going to have just one 50bmg cartridge you'll have the tool you need with you anyway.
The timing is actually very close. For the second round where he had to perform the whole process, it took 23 seconds. Trained musketeers could shoot 3 rounds a minute.

5:23 The back of the cap should be machined to be used as an extractor.
Great idea! you should contact Mark!
i was thinking that exact thing. use one like on the glock that pivots out so it can grab it as it screws in and have it float independant of the cap so it doesnt get all chewed up or damage the case. dunno how to put tension on it though. it would be tough
@@loger_2floofyboogaloo278 maybe like a half moon so you could kick the cartridge out.

still a pretty shit design.. why not have the round slot into the screw cap.. seems like this design is a massive step back. like buying a ferrari and putting 1970 mini cooper wheels on it.
You're supposed to use the rim of the next round to pull the spent cartridge out of the firearm...😂
niiice!
That makes sense
That's what I was thinking or if the cap edge would work
That makes so much sense. I never would have thought of that.
If Matt watched Kentucky ballistics, he would know this.
That design though, It’s like if Hi-Point made a .50 cal. SOLD.

Keeps that cost way down though.

I'd just sidestep the zombie in a tank. Probably just got stuck on the accelerator.
That was way more cool to see than I thought it would be.
Even though it seems like a novelty, I could see something like this having been very useful back in the day for hit and run style tactics against armored vehicles.
Imagine this with exotic rounds like a bolo or dragonsbreath, or maybe a few titanium flechettes in a sabo.
50 BMG 00 buckshot, anyone?

That'd be like "ping-ponging" earth in and out of orbit.
I was thinking that too. Back in the Napoleonic war era that rifle would have been considered very fast and easy to reload, and light to carry.
This is true, but I think it kicks a bit more than a musket
with only 33 seconds to fire two shots, it is a rapid-fire musket. The red coats would never see it coming!
Best part is, it’ll take chunks out of their men
Good choice on firing at balloons, it shows just how fast that bullet is moving
You could probably use the back end of a new round to eject the spent round
