Your set up is fantastic! And your little hammies clearly love their homes, and love you! Good for you for putting so much effort into giving your little guys such a great habitat! If only every pet owner was more like you! : D
Those were just little wooden clips I found at Joann Fabrics and I hot glued them all together onto popsicle sticks. It was very effective, and gave my hammies some exercise to climb over!
lmao I loved watching this video. I couldn't stop laughing where Cole nipped and held on and you were like "*sighs* Thanks Cole..." lmao. Day made, I have to buy this now!!!
This is why I wish I had room in my pokey apartment for a Detolf! So unfair lol. I love how the fighting brothers stop and look around all nonchalant as soon as you catch them ;P
Awesome thank you :) I am getting a 3ft tank for my Syrian soon :) Planning to do the same sort of thing you have done here. He needs a lot more space than the cage he has at the moment! He is quite big too, and the smallest wheel he can have is 20cm in diameter and his cage doesn't have too much room with the wheel in it so I thought I would do sort of the same thing you have :)
Wow, you must've had some aggressive WWs! Mine have all been quite charming. Some have had to be separated, but for the most part they've done lovely together. I now just have one syrian, my first, and the size difference is crazy!
Hey! This is a total fail! The hamsters don't get along as you see! Hamsters are single riders!! Pls seperate them! But your cage is super nice! :) sry if i have some mistakes in my comment, im from Germany :)
Actually, winterwhite dwarfs naturally lives with other hamsters, and they tend to playfight. Of course, some of them don't get along, and prefer to be alone, but I have two hamsters together and they're totally fine. If they fight alot, I agree that they shouldn't be together but as long as they don't hurt each other it's fine. It's syrians that cannot be paired with other hamsters what so ever.
u r the first guy i no that actually cares 4 his hamster most guys trow them and kill them and open there stomachs or use them as expiriments u r a good owner and u should be proud of that
Yay! You'll have to take a video of your own! I'd love to see! I used carefresh, which is a paper-based bedding. Much better on little hamster lungs than pine or cedar, and a LOT easier to clean! You can find carefresh knock offs for cheap at Walmart. Yes, it is a little bit more expensive initially, but you'll be changing the bedding a lot less :)
In your cage off to the right, as far as the lid thing goes, i would suggest putting it on just in case... My roborovski climbed up the water bottle once and found her way out... Not a pleasant experiance- the worst part was that she made a couple big drops on her way down! We found her, but anyway, I would suggest keeping it on just as a precaution. :)
This is AMAZING. I'm stealing the 2-tier level and chinchilla sand ideas. I've been wondering how to spoil my teddy bear hamster more, and now I know exactly what I'll do. Thanks!!
I changed it every few months. WIth there being so much bedding in such a large area, it really didn't smell. Even when I changed it, I only changed it because it felt like it had been a really long time, not because it necessarily needed it. It's just an Ikea Detolf laying on its back without the door put on. It's laying on top of the 2x4 Ikea Expedit bookshelf, which I strongly recommend for storage, plus it looks nice, too! If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask :)
I have both Winter Whites and Campbell's, right now 15 of them, and I recommend you to keep them separate (1 hamster/cage) especially Winter Whites as they tend to be more aggressive to each other than Campbell's. In fact I never had multiple WW in a cage, while occasionally I keep sisters/brothers/mother and daughters/father and sons of Campbell's together (even in that case, I'm always ready to separate everybody for safety). I have 13 cages right now.
I have 2 the exact same hamsters, one grey and one white, both brothers, they were the same with 'fighting' and sadly had to be separated. My grey one died in January, but my white one is still going strong :D he's 4 now :D
hey man i had a white winter hamster too and mine bit ALOTT and usually when they make that noise they are cleaning or like wrestling with the other(s)but be sure to check their privates because i checked my other normal colored hamster and she was bleeding so be careful and be sure to check every once in a while
You're hamster-habitats are really nice :D I like them so much :D are they dwarf hamster still live toghether? Think it's stress if they are fighting very often.
Can you please do a video on HOW TO/ how you tamed your hamsters? My winter white is crazy, but i got her to the point that she will sometimes take sunflower seeds from my fingers.
Love your setup! How sturdy is your setup? I am currently research everything about hamsters before I get some. I was thinking about a pair campbells or winter whites. the "cage" would be the Ikea detolf sitting on top of the expedite double.
i really like your playground with the chinchilla sand ..i think im going to do that for my hamster rhino..ive also been thinking of putting some soil in a glass tank and letting him dig some tunnels because i know hamsters love to dig..so let me know your thoughts..btw my hamster is a syrian..anyways thanks love your hamsters
Thanks! I've had all different species of hamsters, and while I agree that Syrian hamsters need to be kept alone, dwarfs like Winter Whites, Campbellls, Roboverskis, and Chinese are much more tolerant of cage mates, so long as they're from the same litter. That sad, I have had to split up every family of Robos that I've had. All my Winter Whites have been happy together, with rare exception.
Love your setup! :) I just have one question. When I was pricing glass tanks at Pet Smart to see if there was a good size one for my hamsters, the owner of the store was really negative with it. She said that animals that small won't be able to live as long in glass tanks compared to a cage with bars, because of air ventilation. Air flow wouldn't reach the hamsters as much, cutting their lifespan to half. I like the look of glass tanks, what are your thoughts?
I posted this on another Detolf video, hope you don't mind I ask for your input also! Can you talk about the construction of the Detolf glass part? I am wondering how tight the glass comes together in the seam areas - where the hamster would pee, the corners and along the edge where the hamster might burrow (dig). I am concerned the glass might be sharp and that the hamster could cut it's front feet digging in that area? I want to be sure it is really safe and no leaks - areas where dust can come out. Of course hamsters don't pee allot so I doubt it would happen but wanted to ask about the leaks anyway.
@BFarnsey the one at 0:38 that one was 70bucks?? is there a smaller one :/ I can afford for like under 50 bucks.Cause I dont think I can get like glass boards and use hot glue and stuff. So I'm gonna have to get like one thats already made.
As long as it has an open top, or a screen mesh, it has plenty of ventilation. I'm sure your PetSmart associate was trying to give you information to help your pets, but thousands of personal stories from people online differ from what he's saying.
@BFarnsey where can you buy these tanks? And how much do they cost in average price ? I dont want like a huge one, but like a maybe like the lenght 2foot? And just saying is there enough air for them?? Please tell me A.s.a.p :( I'm getting a hamster soon !
cole is a white russian dwarf hamster isnt he ? i had the same one and he looked great but he died RIP nou i have a bigger one he looks realy great but i cant pick him up because he isnt socialised that well
Your set up is fantastic! And your little hammies clearly love their homes, and love you! Good for you for putting so much effort into giving your little guys such a great habitat! If only every pet owner was more like you! : D
OMG you are hilarious! :D I love the way you talk to your hamsters. So cute!
the best tank I have ever seen maybe one day I will make a hamster cage tour
Those were just little wooden clips I found at Joann Fabrics and I hot glued them all together onto popsicle sticks. It was very effective, and gave my hammies some exercise to climb over!
lmao I loved watching this video. I couldn't stop laughing where Cole nipped and held on and you were like "*sighs* Thanks Cole..." lmao. Day made, I have to buy this now!!!
great cage bro,u definitely take good care ofur pets,
This is why I wish I had room in my pokey apartment for a Detolf! So unfair lol.
I love how the fighting brothers stop and look around all nonchalant as soon as you catch them ;P
Great cage! Thank you for the tour! I'm considering making one out of a Detolf as well :D
Nice! I love seeing animals being taken care of. It's so rare these days. :(
Awesome thank you :) I am getting a 3ft tank for my Syrian soon :) Planning to do the same sort of thing you have done here. He needs a lot more space than the cage he has at the moment! That is the coolest cages I've ever seen

Dwarf can be kept in groups of 2 or 4, never 3, as they will pair up, and 1 will always get bullied
Your hamsters are very cute! This video made me laugh! Haha.
I love all your hamsters!!
u r the first guy i no that actually cares 4 his hamster most guys trow them and kill them and open there stomachs or use them as expiriments u r a good owner and u should be proud of that
Yep it's me in the Flesh!
This was so cute. :) I hope I can give my hamster friend such a nice life.
I have one too, and they are much easier to clean than smaller cages.
Cute hamsters, glad you take good care of them, unlike others! :))

You're a great pet owner :) best cage I've seen yet

those are amazing cages!!

They shouldn't be kept in groups of three or any odd group numbers
PeekabooHamsters yeah!
I am just curious, why can’t they be in groups of three
@@minizooaccount9721 They're solitary animals in the wild. They will only fight if kept together.
For every one winter whites are actually know for living in colonies and same with most dwarfs but syrians ar completly solitary.

sweet cage :)
you shoiuld own Degus. They would love your creativity for makes cages!
The underground tunnels are awesome lol
The food is sprinkled throughout the whole cage so that they have to forage for it which is part of their natural instinct.
Cute!! I am going to buy one next week for my Syrian, Lloyd :)
i seriousley LOVE the ad :D only one i watched all of it :)

Can you please do a video on HOW TO/ how you tamed your hamsters?
My winter white is crazy, but i got her to the point that she will sometimes take sunflower seeds from my fingers.
It's a good thing ! If you wake it up often, you can shorten it's life.
Love your setup! How sturdy is your setup? I am currently research everything about hamsters before I get some. I was thinking about a pair campbells or winter whites. the "cage" would be the Ikea detolf sitting on top of the expedite double.
@xY0uPwnx 10 gallon tanks are about $15 at walmart, they also sell a lid for about $7
Yup the thing where u put food in is an australian parrots birds nest.
i really like your playground with the chinchilla sand ..i think im going to do that for my hamster rhino..ive also been thinking of putting some soil in a glass tank and letting him dig some tunnels because i know hamsters love to dig..so let me know your thoughts..btw my hamster is a syrian..anyways thanks love your hamsters
