It’s a bit of a stretch to have Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards.

Has Pedro Pascal ever been in a successful movie? How does he keep getting cast in things? Is he someone's brother-in-law?
Because no one wanted the contract.
Pedro was 4th choice to play Reed. Other actors weren't interested in signing multiple movie deal with Marvel and Movie was supposed to release in less than 2 years.
Pedro offered to take the role pretty much and Marvel with no choice due to release date rushed it due to lack of actors

I predict that Sue will need to explain a lot of things to Reed. Sure, he was smart in the comics, but you can’t have a smart man in the M-She-U.
You need to look more on the bright side: you can't spell 'her' or 'she' without 'he'
Considering pedro pascal is playing Reed Richards, that might actually fit really well.

I disagree. I think he’ll be a good fit.
Agreed, I was about to post the same thing. He's not a good fit at all for that role.
Pedro Pascal would be a good fit for the role of a psychopathic villain in a western movie. One who abuses animals, among other things.
30 years ago, the 1995 Summer Blockbuster season had Apollo 13, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Crimson Tide, The Usual Suspects, Waterworld, Bad Boys, Pocahontas, Casper, Species, Mortal Kombat, Desperado, and Braveheart. Great movies all!
In 2025 we have two franchises being rebooted for the third or fourth time to "look forward to."

I honestly don’t mind the ages of the characters. Reed and Sue in particular have always felt like older to me-not OLD, but experienced enough in life to, ya know, have a comfortable marriage and a developed career. The mustache is kind of silly, but as a comic book fan I’m used to mild changes in art styles and designs for various characters, so it’s not a jarring change for me. I think Kirby looks great! For Sue Storm, age wise, it aligns with my expectations of the character. My first experience with the Fantastic 4 was the cartoon from 1967, and that has always flavored my views of what they should look like (I watched the re-runs in the 80s). In that series she was portrayed to be late 30s or 40. This was the first movie in which the characters felt to be the correct age, making Vanessa Kirby to be a great match from what I would expect to see. Now then, Pedro Pascal, the jury is still out on this one... but the correct age.
In the mag, which is all that really counts, she was under 30. No way Sue is 38, looking 45.
@@johnstrawb3521 Appearance besides the point as I think that Vanessa Kirby is very attractive in the role... if we go be the mag, then Reed Richards met her at 12, and then the timeline gets a little... well let's just say a little creepy. Even in the 60s people would've seen the relationship as extremely questionable. Marvel tried to step away from this with other writers to distance themselves from it, which is why the age thing now is a little convoluted.
Look, I'm okay with them being young, but I do also like that it feels more like a family, at least from the trailer. It's the first Marvel movie in a very long time that I want to go see in the theaters.

Marvel gonna learn the hard way and I can’t wait to see this trash flop.
@@anthonygilbert8373 So my original point was, I am okay with the character of Sue Storm being the age used as my first experience was the cartoon.
Second I was once a hardcore Star Wars fan, even standing in line to watch the prequels (and getting my picture on the front page of the newspaper dressed as Darth Vader) to only be disappointed. I still haven't watched The Rise of Skywalker and I probably never will. Disney has really screwed up this property, and they have been screwing up Marvel movies for years now... to which I have stopped watching most of them for the last four years, just couldn't do it anymore.
So a person, who has no issue with an older Sue Storm, based upon their first experience being that of a cartoon, where the character is portrayed to be a little older, and is hoping to God that Disney/Marvel doesn't completely kill off yet another franchise that I love, doesn't make me a shill, it makes me a realist.
Sue Storm being older, so what. If that's your only complaint, it's a weak one, as there are plenty of others to make, and god knows Marvel/Disney gave all of the excuses in the world to us on a platter.

If a film looks interesting then I'll probably go and see it. The problem is for all everyone talks about the Fantastic 4 as some headline group for Marvel they're not superheroes a lot of non-comic book readers like myself know much about and frankly their powers aren't very interesting either. They're very random.
Also I think a lot of people are just fed up with the ever-increasing number of MCU characters and adding another 4 just makes matters worse. There's simply too many to get invested in and care about. The early MCU was so much more entertaining. The first Avengers movies had just 6 heroes, 2 of whom had been introduced through the others' movies. Each was distinct both in character and abilities. By the time End Game came around there were dozens of characters and many had similar powers. Sometimes less is more and that's definitely the case with the MCU.
The two main characters are played by actors a decade older than they should be, imagine if RDJ was 49 in the first Iron Man, no way he made it to End Game in shape. But I guess this will be a throwaway film.

The model for a Fantastic Four movie should be the first Superman movie. Big, bright, colorful and clean. No grim, dark, gritty stuff. The fact that it takes place in a retro 60's (like The Incredibles almost does) is a positive sign. So is the fact that they said "You know what, Galactus is not a cloud but a big guy with wings on his helmet." And you'll need to refresh your memory - Pedro Pascal became a big star by portraying a very "tough" guy in The Mandlorian. So...his sensibilities are well suited to that, since he's known for that more than any other type.
Pascal's casting is strike 1.
Gender swap Silver Surfer is a strike 2.
Being a Disney production is strike 3.
3 strikes and I'm out.
the silver surfer should be more of an non-gender type like the T-1000 -- it was already awful having him a surfbrett to travel the galaxy in the comics in the first place 🥸
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
@test-zl2lw The "brain-trusts" who gender bend and race-swap legacy characters all think the same thing.. "it should be this" and "we think the actual character is awful". To that I say "then go make your own damn original character and stop raping and riding the coattails of somebody's else's name and work. Silver Surfer is a DUDE who made a deal with Galactus to spare his planet in exchange for becoming his herald.. full stop. The fact that they do this is a clear indication that they not only, not understand these characters and their world but they also don't respect them either. This movie is gonna be trash because the writers, showrunners and pornstache are a bunch of dickheads.
They obviously didn’t care about Fantastic 4 just look at who’s playing Reed Richards.
And we didn’t even get into the Silver Surfer.
Pedro will be fine.

I don't think the 2005 Fantastic Four movie is terrible; not great, but enjoyable I think.
Check extended version, it's ok movie...
Same here. Just a fun movie, not Shakespeare, but fun. Good movie to watch at the flix and gobble some popcorn.
A night out seeing that movie was my homecoming from Basic Training, and it was exactly what I needed.
It's a chill movie. It delivers on exactly what a superhero movie from the mid 2000s was expected to be. A popcorn flick
I kind of love the aesthetic that is so retro future, which is one of my favorite art styles. It's lovely looking. Let's see how the story works. 🙂
I hold the 2000's Fantastic Four movies close to my heart. Every time it popped up on FX I would watch it with my parents and they were my introduction to these characters. Watching this trailer made me feel with wonder, based on what was shown they truly feel like a family. My only complaint is the casting of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards. He certainly looks like a man in the 60's but not as Reed Richards.
Asking me to watch a Marvel movie now, even if it's "good", is like asking me to drink clean water from a toilet bowl. I just can't help but think of all the shit that came before.
Exactly -- Disney has spent at least a decade punishing me every time I tried to enjoy a movie and telling me they hate me. Why do they expect me to still care?
They've been pretty bad since the first Iron Man in like 2008
Who wants to bet they make Silver HER-fer bald with like some kind of baggy outfit?
My favorite and first depiction of the Fantastic Four I ever saw was the animated series Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes by the studio MoonScoop. I suppose it's my standard for characterization and overall cohesion of the team, as well as how they handle and react to the scenarios they get involved in. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. It's just a single season of around... 25 episodes, I think it was.
I do have a soft spot for the Fantastic Four. I hope Marvel can succeed in doing good things with them.
Pascal as Mr. Fantastic is a horrible choice.
Pedro Pascal's mustache. Every dam role he has that mustache 😫
eh. I think Marvel needs to take a breather. Like.. 5 years off for a true reset. Let the people miss it. Give themselves time to really flesh things out. Remove all the political shit. Focus on great storytelling.
Make it 10
Yeah I agree I'd say more like 10 years as well is what it truly needs, although that would make me 44 by the time that this would be coming back, and I kinda don't want to think about that part haha 😅
Star Wars needs that way more
issue is at this point marvel is so big that if they stop work like that, they will have to layoff, which means they lose skill and talent that they may not get back after those 5 years as they get employed by different companies or retire.
It will take getting the IP into the hands of a different studio since the chances of a top down change at Disney is virtually impossible.
I had a completely different idea that could’ve brought them into the established MCU.
The first FF4 movie would take place over the course of several years, starting somewhere around Iron Man 3 in terms of chronological order.
Reed Richards would be awarded a research grant from Tony Stark, a way to bring RDJ back to the MCU without making him Doom (which is fucking stupid), but a co-recipient of the grant would be Victor Von Doom (and he would even pronounce it as Dome). They would be working on technology to make instant teleportation a possibility.
They would have their first successful test on the day Thanos snaps the blip, and would happen right as Victor and Reed attempt another test that results in an explosion that injures Doom. As Reed helps Victor to his feet and they make their way out of the research facility, Victor turns to dust.
Then the movie would primarily focus on the chaos in the world that immediately follows the snap. Five years of HELL where humanity has eventually learned how to cope with what has happened, but the majority of the movie would be how Reed and his team (Sue, Johnny, and Ben) are using the technology he and Victor have created to assist the world in rebuilding after the snap. Thus, they are know as the Fantastic Four.
They would gain their powers by trying to reestablish an international space station, where the FF4 are installing a permanent teleportation access point on the space station so humanity doesn’t have to launch rockets or crafts to put people into space. While out there, Hulk snaps his fingers to bring everyone back. The massive amount of cosmic energy blasts the FF4 who are not protected by the shell of the Earth’s magnetic field, and causes chaos on the space station. They get hit AGAIN as Tony snaps his fingers, leaving them unconscious. The climax of the film would essentially be a space disaster movie, with the space station plummeting back through the atmosphere and the team working together to survive, and due to the stress starting to show signs of their powers in the process. The movie would end with a mid credits scene showing Victor returning from the blip still inside the research facility which is now well-established and decorated with accolades for the FF4. Doom discovers Reed’s massive success and popularity and that Victor was given no credit for the development of the technology that put Reed and the FF4 on the map. The scene would culminate with him being completely enraged and muttering a bit of a spell to himself, showing his origins actually take on his comic origins.
The end credits scene would show the planet where Thanos was killed the first time by Thor, the “Garden”. A streak of silver would be seen darting across the sky, then the shot would change to the dilapidated interior of Thanos’ hut, where we see his skeletal remains. A pair of silver arms reach down and pick up a mangled remnant of the infinity gauntlet as a massive object blocks out the sunlight. Cut to interior of a massive starship, with a large, metallic hand making adjustments to different instrument panels. The silver surfer appears, kneels, and offers up the gauntlet.
“Master, there is no signs of life on the planet capable of wielding such power.”
The massive hand lifts the gauntlet from the surfer’s hands, as alarms go off in the ship. A screen displays Earth, showing a mssive blast of cosmic energy radiating from the planet.
“There… we will travel there my herald. This power will be mine,” Galactus states.
Seriously tho. Why do they keep trying it with this franchise in particular? I’m not out of my 30’s and this is the third damn reboot I remember.
Because it keeps failing at step 1. So they think the problem is the failed step 1 and not the IP just not having that big of a fan base.
Note to Filmmakers:
STOP MAKING FANTASTIC FOUR FILMS!!!
There was one (1), One, ONE great Fantastic Four film...
...and it was called The Incredibles.

Stop making BAD Fantastic Four films.

@@PrinceAliTheGreatest Considering they had an attempt in 1994, 2005, 2007, and 2015 and they ALL failed…can you blame someone feeling that way? 😂
@ Bad directors. Bad writers.
Simply.
Hire people who can write something worth while that also understands these characters.
They also ripped off The Incredibles in WandaVision. Just EW!
Drinker nailed it on this one, it's simply to late. The damage is done and there is no hope for the M-She-U. People will watch Super-man because we know Gunn can turn that around and build something worth watching again. We all know there is no hope for Disney and one side of me can't wait for this to tank hard so we can watch Disney burn. While another side of me will be sad because I want it to be great. Wanted Doom and SS to be as awesome as they were in the comics, but we all know it won't happen with the current people running Disney.
Fantastic 4 was always kinda hard to make work because aside from little side cartoon appearances, most of the people who even knew the characters were from watching Boomerang reruns. It's not like Batman and Superman or X-Men etc. that have had countless iterations over the years
Pedro is this decade's "It actor", like Chris Pratt and Ryan Reynolds before him, except for unlike each before him there was no grass roots love to see Pedro constantly.
Studios just decided he will be the actor who's in everything, most likely because they know he appeals to the Modern Audience.
No, he's just their go-to box ticker.
So tired of the homely looking adult pretender. Dude has no range and is such a poor choice for action movies and shows.
@@MrReubenTishkoff couldn't make it to the second sentence could ya?
The "modern audience" is a media created fiction. They don't exist except as a fantasy.

As someone who grew up with the early 2000s fantastic four movies I feel like they get a little bit too much hate they were a product of their time and while yes they had a lot of problems they’re still fun action movies that can be enjoyed by everyone.
They were fun movies, that’s what matters.
Why does no one seem to understand that a movie is supposed to be both art and entertainment?
Exactly
The Fantastic 4 from 2000s would have been better If they hadn't miscast Reed and Sue. They did great with Johnny and Ben.
Biggest miscast was Doom.
@@jaycee_baron Nah, it was still a better casting than RDJ as Doom
I'm still baffled that people see Pedro Pascal as an above average actor.
1) Vanessa Kirby is smokin, so I'm not worried about that.
2) I feel like that Thing dialog is a callback/easter egg for "The Bear"... which.... isn't really needed.
From all the reaction comments on the trailer I learned you could spell failure P-e-d-r-o P-a-s-c-al. Not his fault. He just took the jobs he was offered, but it does show that marvel studios need someone better than Kevin Feige to be sure characters are true to the source. Disney should have just Batgirled the Cap. America sequel and used the money to reshoot Reed with someone else. I hope that isn't the Thing's final voice, because that really screams misunderstanding the material.
Unless Silver Surfer is comic accurate (not gender-swapped), I can't be interested.
Disney /Marvel execs “Let’s cast a dude who is almost 50 to lead our otherwise young cast of characters that would be ostensibly making these films and playing that character well in to his 60s”
Makes sense.
Kind of like casting a 43 year old Ben Affleck as Batman in his debut Batman film?
@@JohnCottierthat Batman already went through some shit, we saw he lost his robin and he has been set up as Batman for probably decades at that point, so kinda makes sense to have a grizzled older Bruce Wayne
Brunneng brings up a good point though, Pedro is gonna be too old for the role soon, maybe they’re not really expecting this movie to take off as a series
The previous attempt had multiple stars (teller, MB Jordan) and young actors so they were probably more serious but we saw how that ended up maybe they’re done trying they just want a one off movie to kickstart a new phase in mcu
@ My point is that Batfleck's debut was meant to be the start of a shared universe of films, and by starting with a Batman who was already old with a dead Robin, they had painted themselves into a corner with an actor who could only play the character for so many years before he would simply be too old and many stories already told with little area left for exploration on the character.
We wanted Susan Storm from Marvel Rivals, they gave us Susan Storm from borderlands.
We wanted Susan Storm from the Fantastic Four comic book, you know, the motherfucking source material. Rivals. Jesus wept.

When they decided to make Shalla Bal the Silver Surfer, this movie was dead to me
Yeah seems intentional they left her out the teaser cause usually the first trailers are watched most so best make it good
100%. If they do that, you KNOW there will be other problems.
She’s not the 616 silver surfer, he’ll most likely be male.
@@demialabi4942 hmmm yeah maybe! They re lucky they can really edit as much as they need to with this multiverse plot
@demialabi4942 she has no business being a surfer in the first place, I completely reject this decision and will refuse to watch this or any other film that involves her being the Silver Surfer
Look 👀 if it’s a good movie we will come out - if it is bad we don’t . Period
Why does The Thing look like a Wes Anderson animation and sound like he's an actor voicing a cartoon in a busy room?
The animation on Thing is horrendous. The voice also doesn’t match the character or the image. So much wrong, it looks cheap- especially with HERBIE in there.
GREAT THE CRITICAL DRINKER FANTASTIC FOUR TRAILER.
2000's thing even looked better with costume and not a fucking cgi
Casting really is the problem here. both Kirby and Pascal are totally miscast. And the voice of the Thing is just ridiculous.
