Every writer for the Superman has made him accomplish insane feats that it would probably need Goku to achieve Sun Wukong level to actually beat him. I did prefer this one compared to the first two because both showed great respect to one another and created a friendly rivalry compared to all the intense biased fans we have in real life

Authorial intent is the most important factor in understanding characters in his view, and the story is what decides their fate. The concept of vs battles often discards *intent* of the author and replace storytelling with real world physics to try and create outcomes, which is well and good but by that point is it really even the same character anymore? If you're plugging them into a context they weren't created with in mind and binding them to it. Feats in stories aren't usually mean to be a completely objective measuring stick, but more to convey an idea of ability and scale. It wasn't until relatively recently you started getting authors specifically creating characters to win vs battles and frankly I think that's pretty sad.
Sum y’all gotta remember is there’s thousands of different versions of Superman with dozens of different writers who got their own point of view on how strong Superman should be. Superman goes from being strong enough to destroy universes and fighting with a KRYPTONITE INFUSED DOOMSDAY to being banged up by sum random robot Batman made and getting taken out by a tiny piece of krpytonite. Lemme explain: Goku was created in 1985 and only has 38 years in development. had Goku been created back in 1938, he'd be THIS strong in 1976. Yes Goku has trained since birth, but that only helps him in terms of skill, which Goku clearly outmatches Superman in, but Superman has been alive for literally 1,000's of years. He not only has more overall feats than Goku, but also has fought extremely powerful beings more often than Goku has. There's no character in the DBZ universe that Superman wouldn't be able to defeat, and there's no feat of Goku's that would be impossible for him either. Goku can't travel at the speed of infinity, Goku can't time travel, Goku can't resist being atomized, Goku has been killed by FAR lesser attacks than what it takes to kill Superman. I say all of this as someone who hates Superman, but the unfortunate truth is that Goku wouldn't be able to defeat this version of Superman. He'd fight hard, but ultimately nothing he can do would significantly affect Superman.

Superman is written into his stories to be the good guy with any levels of power to confront any level of conflict which basically has a baseline of multiverse levels of power because comic writers had to use the concept of a multiverse as plot devices in order to write themselves out of corners to change direction to popular demand, allow different companies to retcon stories after switching of copyrights and authors being changed. Dragon ball is an at least semi cohesive story that needs to retain a linear growth of power for confronting stronger enemies while allowing room for growth of the main character to confront future threats. It's comparing a fan fic ridden series characterized by willingness to break continuities (yet all the while the authors want to insist it is a single story because they don't want to give up past story points to go back to for endless milking) to a story that has retcons that can be counted on one hand. Of course the prior is going to have greater feats because there is no expectation that past events have future consequences so they can just be as ridiculous as whatever author writing at the time can imagine, whereas Toriyama is the singular author and has to actually pace his story while the only non cannon story, super heros, barely exists in terms of content compared to the main series.

I think Marks opinion on how every character should have a drawback is really interesting. It seems like it should be just fundamentally true, and I think I agree with it 99% of the time, but not here. The reason why I like superman much more than other superheros(which I generally don’t like very much) is because he is invincible. His story is not one of trying to become a god, its one of a god living amongst men. The fact that he IS the strongest is why his pure, good heart is so important. Unlike Goku, who is a man trying to become a god(which is not a bad thing I love original dragonball), Superman is a God trying to be stay human. Its rarely done well, but people who are the strongest can be good. Another good example is Yujiro, who is so far above the rest of his universe in power that literally everyone else stopped challenging him. Its his overwhelming strength that gives the series its direction. Anyway just remember that discord from my little pony solos everybody in anime and comics easy. So there is no real point in comparing different universes to each other.

They showed you Superman reading a few books and completing a successful surgery on his first try. He built a Miracle machine that warps reality from just his memory, no schematics or nothing. Basically, the fact that he only started fighting enemies at around age 21 doesn't matter (although he had trained since childhood), he learns way quicker than Goku. Kryptonians are like 5th level intellect species or something. Human Martial Arts are like monkeys playing with sticks in the eyes of such a being, he's only held back by his humanity and mental blocks. Comic book characters have long since barely aged despite them going through years of publication history and in Doomsday Clock Dr. Manhattan sees that each era of superman is preserved and moves forward. Anytime his existence is threatened his era jumps forward, explaining how he could be a hero in the 1940's and be around 30 years old and be the same hero in the modern era and still look like he's in his 30's-40's. After the events of convergence, doomsday clock, death metal, and infinite frontier all eras are now canon for everyone, including superman. So his golden age, silver age, post crisis, new 52, rebirth, everything in the main continuity is now one. It's all one superman. So yeah he has far more experience than goku, his age doesn't matter. He's been in publication for 85 years. He's had way more time to rack up incredible feats that just outnumber goku's. He's far mor powerful than goku since his feats require way more power and strength as he exists in a much bigger universe, multiverse, and reality than dragon ball. The fact that his stories are still going on show people aren't getting tired of it anytime soon. Even using non canon feats for goku, superman still won. The gap between them is far too big. And he's written that way for a reason. Superman is not a superhero, he's The Superhero. People keep mentioning him being first for a reason. He's the reason superhero comics exist, he's the example of morality and the threshold of power. He's the archetypal hero, the "the hero always saves the day" because he's the fantasy and dream of a better tomorrow. That good will always win, that humanity will be better, and the world will be saved. You just have to look at human history to understand why two men would dream up a being like Superman. So it's not just writers doing whatever they feel like and pulling things out of their asses. It's them putting an impossible situation in front of us, often times with no hope, then presenting that solution, that hope. Superman. That's how you write him, that's why people love him, that's why he's been around as long as he has and that's why he's as powerful as he is. Because he needs to be.

You missed something out on that Experience section. For one, they mention that Superman had been put into a fighting a war that lasted for thousands of years. So that gives him the experience automatically. But also, he fights threats on his level WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY more often than Goku does. This man's throwing hands with the likes of Bizzarro, Brainiac, Mongul, Darkseid, etc. practically every week. It's one thing to train a lot, it's a whole other thing to be fighting for your life for real day in and day out. Meanwhile you could probably off your head count everyone Goku ever fought. No way you can do that with Superman.

Authorial intent is the most important factor in understanding characters in his view, and the story is what decides their fate. The concept of vs battles often discards *intent* of the author and replace storytelling with real world physics to try and create outcomes, which is well and good but by that point is it really even the same character anymore? If you're plugging them into a context they weren't created with in mind and binding them to it. Feats in stories aren't usually mean to be a completely objective measuring stick, but more to convey an idea of ability and scale. It wasn't until relatively recently you started getting authors specifically creating characters to win vs battles and frankly I think that's pretty sad.

Lemme explain: Goku was created in 1985 and only has 38 years in development. had Goku been created back in 1938, he'd be THIS strong in 1976. That would still leave 47 YEARS of development to get to 2023... imagine how strong he'd be then...
Yes Goku has trained since birth, but that only helps him in terms of skill, which Goku clearly outmatches Superman in, but Superman has been alive for literally 1,000's of years. He not only has more overall feats than Goku, but also has fought extremely powerful beings more often than Goku has.
There's no character in the DBZ universe that Superman wouldn't be able to defeat, and there's no feat of Goku's that would be impossible for him either. Goku can't travel at the speed of infinity, Goku can't time travel, Goku can't resist being atomized, Goku has been killed by FAR lesser attacks than what it takes to kill Superman.
I say all of this as someone who hates Superman, but the unfortunate truth is that Goku wouldn't be able to defeat this version of Superman. He'd fight hard, but ultimately nothing he can do would significantly affect Superman.

Superman is written into his stories to be the good guy with any levels of power to confront any level of conflict which basically has a baseline of multiverse levels of power because comic writers had to use the concept of a multiverse as plot devices in order to write themselves out of corners to change direction to popular demand, allow different companies to retcon stories after switching of copyrights and authors being changed. Dragon ball is an at least semi cohesive story that needs to retain a linear growth of power for confronting stronger enemies while allowing room for growth of the main character to confront future threats. It's comparing a fan fic ridden series characterized by willingness to break continuities (yet all the while the authors want to insist it is a single story because they don't want to give up past story points to go back to for endless milking) to a story that has retcons that can be counted on one hand. Of course the prior is going to have greater feats because there is no expectation that past events have future consequences so they can just be as ridiculous as whatever author writing at the time can imagine, whereas Toriyama is the singular author and has to actually pace his story while the only non cannon story, super heros, barely exists in terms of content compared to the main series.

I think Marks opinion on how every character should have a drawback is really interesting. It seems like it should be just fundamentally true, and I think I agree with it 99% of the time, but not here. The reason why I like superman much more than other superheros(which I generally don’t like very much) is because he is invincible. His story is not one of trying to become a god, its one of a god living amongst men. The fact that he IS the strongest is why his pure, good heart is so important. Unlike Goku, who is a man trying to become a god(which is not a bad thing I love original dragonball), Superman is a God trying to be stay human. Its rarely done well, but people who are the strongest can be good. Another good example is Yujiro, who is so far above the rest of his universe in power that literally everyone else stopped challenging him. Its his overwhelming strength that gives the series its direction. Anyway just remember that discord from my little pony solos everybody in anime and comics easy. So there is no real point in comparing different universes to each other.

He's far mor powerful than goku since his feats require way more power and strength as he exists in a much bigger universe, multiverse, and reality than dragon ball. The fact that his stories are still going on show people aren't getting tired of it anytime soon. Even using non canon feats for goku, superman still won. The gap between them is far too big. You missed something out on that Experience section. For one, they mention that Superman had been put into a fighting a war that lasted for thousands of years. So that gives him the experience automatically. But also, he fights threats on his level WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY more often than Goku does. This man's throwing hands with the likes of Bizzarro, Brainiac, Mongul, Darkseid, etc. practically every week. It's one thing to train a lot, it's a whole other thing to be fighting for your life for real day in and day out. Meanwhile you could probably off your head count everyone Goku ever fought. No way you can do that with Superman.
