Barong; Gamelan Burat Wangi Spring Concert '06

This is a performance by the Cal-Arts based gamelan group Burat Wangi. The ensemble is directed by I Nyoman Wenten, and this performance was in The Mod Theater, which, along with the group's rehearsal space, is located on the California Institute of the Arts campus in Valencia, California.

Hi all,actually this Barong Dance is about a fight of The Good (The Barong) against The Evil (The Rangda which is not displayed in this video). In the end, both of them still exist since they are fighting eachother with no end. It tells us that in this world (or even in each of the creatures) there will be always Good and Bad (like Yin and Yang in Chinesse). So, judging and criticizing others will bring us to no end probably(like the Dance). Peace.

hi ive lived in malaysia for 4 yrs,n i can confirm the fact tht malaysians hve the tendency to 'claim' indonesian culture eg, the kebaya, the wayang, the gamelan basically anything they can get their sorry hands on, n its friggin irritating, i mean just cuz u dont hve a culture of ur own doesnt mean u can steal ours. u disrespect the indos who work/help build ur country, n call them 'indons'yet u prance around claiming our culture. don't forget that every malays's ancestor is indonesian.
