The LG V40 is a great phone. It hit's a lot of my checkboxes. You got: 5 Cameras: Wide, Standard, Telephoto with Wide at the front & Standard OIS & EIS P-OLED Display Snapdragon 845 6GB RAM Expandable Storage IP 68 This phone is near perfect. Some improvements that could be added should be - Monochrome Sensor (6 Cameras) - 4000mAh Battery+ (or higher capacity) - Front Facing Flash - In-Display Fingerprint Sensor I hope the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will add all these features and become the perfect smartphone. Otherwise LG V40 or the next LG V50 will be my phone of choice. PS: Right now I'm still rocking the LG V20.
I started with a V20, currently run a V30+ and am waiting for my V40 ThinQ Dual sim for just over £300. I always wait for last years model to drop in the market and save a shit load. Oh on the phones? I LOVE what LG are doing. This phone is for people of love photography, creating video, listening to and recording music/sound, in short media. Everything else is an also ran. And it makes phone calls, amazing. IMHO, nothing touches the V series.
One of the things that LG has been ahead of the competition on has been their wide angle camera. I have a G6 and I make good use of it. If rumors are true the flagship Galaxy S10 will have 3 rear cameras and one will be wide angle so other manufacturers are starting to take notice.
Headphone jack has cleaner and better sound I think I'm happy that LG stands seperately to the rest carrying a headphone jack and not trying to be like everyone else

Nice phone just got one. I can not disable the data warning icon letting me know the data is off and forcing me to turn it on ( like I use the wifi most of the time) and don't want to be forced to use data unless I want to. The icon will not go away and can not be gotten rid of. What do I do? I have the ATT unlocked version.

I had to return an LG V50, one reason is that it was hardcoded for sprint and I have t mobile... but nevermind that. It was also annoying that it was difficult to swipe down to see my notifications, and unfortunately, I didn't see you do that at all in this video with the V40.
We are Looking for some quality Audio Jacks without loss to plug into our Stereos and Expensive Head phones. If this is a good phone The Audio Jack is very much appreciated. There are a significant group of us who want our Music more than other things. And it’s a quality Audio Jack. Audio Lovers don’t care as much about the Camera as the Audio options.
I'm a little confused about voicemail notifications. Just upgraded from the LG V30. On that phone when someone called and left a VM the number of unopened VM appeared on the Voicemail App. I would know if the caller left a VM. Also all open/unopened VM were listed when I opened the VM App, contact name, number, date and time. But this is not the case with the V40. The VM app does not indicate the number of unopened VM like the V30. When I click on the app it goes through this account verification step (everytime) then no list of VM appear, open or unopened. The only way I can see if I have any VM at all and retrieve them is I have to go to the dial pad for the phone and hold down #1, which gets me into VM then asks for my PIN code and then I will know how many new messages I have, if any. I also have to listen to them in order starting with the oldest one. On the V30 I could choose which one I wanted to hear based on importance. I retrieve VM on my landline the same way( yep, still use landline. for those that aren't worthy of getting my cell #). I'm hoping Im doing something wrong and didn't set something correctly because I would hate to think LG is taking a step back in technology as far as VM is concerned. Does the fact that I set it up using a PIN number to access my VM be the problem? I'm not concerned about security on my VM that requires a PIN to gain access. If I change the it so I don't need the PIN will that make it like it did on my V30? Any feedback is appreciated. I'm not a complete phone junkie so my tech knowledge isn't at the expert level by any means.
I noticed when recording video that I cannot switch between all three cameras if you're in wide angle you're stuck in wide angle if you're in standard you can switch between telephoto and standard but not wide any way to fix that?
Wish LG would realise that if they just installed Android One on this, a lot more people would pick one up ,myself included, it looks the part but software updates and security patch updates, are well behind most, LG just release a flagship Android One smartphone
I understand that and im using a panda pixel 2 xl, which i generally love, however as a music lover, the dac and headphone jack is important and is long gone on the Pixels, something that have been forced on ansd so has the majority, to use bluetooth headphones earbuds etc, bluetooth has come along way in terms of audio quality, but if given a choice ill use a wired connection 80% of the time, bluetooth is for me anyway, a convenience thing , thats why i would wise LG would just release a Android One version.

I just bought my LG V40 ThinQ yesterday, still trying to figure out how to set all my stuff up on it lol. One question, you seem very tech savvy and I am not so...., how would I set up a "shortcut" on my home screen for a split screen duo that I have matched up? Say like I have TH-cam and my clock on my screen, how would I create a "badge" for that particular duo on my screen?
My wife and I just got our v40's. We love them. I was only cautious of the size of the phones, but that issue was never realized as the screen to body ratio is so large. We're very happy with these v40's

I have the LG V 10 and I love it but I've been needing to upgrade for a while. I was waiting for the V50 reviews but I've decided to go with either the G8 thinQ or the V40. I can't decide. The past 4 phones I've had are LG. Anyone have some advice on which is better for the price?
So you have a v10 which came out late 2015 and are upgrading in late 2019. On that basis I would go for the v50, sure the dual screen feature is a gimmick, but if you're gonna keep your phone for that long, the price point is justified. It's an all around better phone than the g8 and improves significantly on the v40 in terms of battery and camera, so will be pretty good a few years down the line.
I love the fact that this review focussed considerably time on the Quad-Dac rather than it being about the three cameras and the other associated gimmickry. I'm looking forward to buying my next phone in December during the inevitable SALES season. The choice it between V40, V30 and G7. My requirements are focussed on hi-res music and HD videos. Perhaps some pictures when on holiday, which is at most twice a year for a week or two. Price will be a factor but its most value for money out of the three that I'm after. Still rocking my LG V20. My only complaint about LG phones is the IPS screens overheat and cause the performance of the phone to suffer sometimes. Other than that, the Audio will never be matched
My question is, do all carrier models of this phone come with that pair of head phones, or is it only the unlocked model? I ask cause I've seen a number of reviews that say that it doesn't come with the pair of head phones.
i don't think he was being sarcastic. i will always buy a phone with a headphone jack vs one without, especially if one has a "quad dac" while no-one else has implemented an audiophile solution outside Japan.
Note is a great phone and workhorse. If you use and appreciate the stylus, then stick with the Note. LG has phones with a stylus...but doesn't compare to Samsung. Sammy in a class above on that front

Now with 12 mp f1.5 1.4 micron pixels with both OIS and EIS . finally lg is back on auto mode along with better low light. along with EIS on rest of the 4 lenses . EIS on all lenses is a first on a smartphone. Along with video capabilities which none can beat like 4k 60fps recording, 4k hdr video recording, log recording with better stabilisation. Along with the best audio recording on a smartphone. And how can we forget about wide angle lens which is their signature and is far better than depth, monochrome lenses out there. I know that lg's processing is not great compared to pixels but here versatility i don't even think mate 20 pro would also give as it won't have wide angle lens.
With the new second Screen LG Needs to give us more color options ex. Green blue and purple gradiants and/or a custom color spectrum wheel option to customize our notch to our liking.
Just ordered this phone yesterday for the equivalent of US$350. My Note 9 is cracked so I thought I'd switch back to LG and grab a decent pair of headphones to enjoy the DAC.
I have Sprint, no ear buds included which was noted when I ordered. I read someone below that has Verizon and no earbuds. Just a way for them to make more money.
LG don't work on displays at all. Since G3 every lg phone surfers from image burns My G4 have extreme retention problems and it can't be fixed. My v30 now also suffers from image burns, and as v30 is oled, that burns are permanent.
Yeah, I don't get why they didn't go bigger on the battery from the G7 especially given the size of this phone. My guess would be to make room for the resonance chamber that creates the "boombox" sound. Personally I'd tell them to go with stereo speakers like on the Galaxy or the Apple phones and put in a bigger battery.
I actually don't get why phones gotta be so thin. They are so hard to hold now. And they are huge anyway, so 2mm is not gonna suddenly make it not fit on your pocket if it does already.

From what I've read you need to either buy an unlocked phone from someplace like Best Buy or you need to buy an international version to get the earbuds. They don't come with phones that are sold by carriers for some strange reason.

Both Front and Rear wide angle lens are nowhere as wide as the V20. And
no more IR blaster. I really miss the IR blaster! It's so useful.

If you are truly concerned about security and have important stuff you don't want people seeing. I would not recommend smart lock, at all.

The cameras are much better on the v40 than the g7. It's not trickery. The v40 is also much better than the v30

i don't think he was being sarcastic. i will always buy a phone with a headphone jack vs one without, especially if one has a "quad dac" while no-one else has implemented an audiophile solution outside Japan.

Note is a great phone and workhorse. If you use and appreciate the stylus, then stick with the Note. LG has phones with a stylus...but doesn't compare to Samsung. Sammy in a class above on that front
@@alexandergoldman unfortunately I don't know anyone that uses their stylus with their notes. If you do, great, but to most it's a wasted gimmick.

Someone who don't mind taller phone would definitely appreciate wider screen as well with bigger battery. Which can make it perfect media consumption device. LG what have you done.

Yes. I can say it is the most versatile camera than any other phone out there .. Now with 12 mp f1.5 1.4 micron pixels with both OIS and EIS . finally lg is back on auto mode along with better low light. along with EIS on rest of the 4 lenses . EIS on all lenses is a first on a smartphone. Along with video capabilities which none can beat like 4k 60fps recording, 4k hdr video recording, log recording with better stabilisation. Along with the best audio recording on a smartphone. And how can we forget about wide angle lens which is their signature and is far better than depth, monochrome lenses out there. I know that lg's processing is not great compared to pixels but here versatility i don't even think mate 20 pro would also give as it won't have wide angle lens.

I liked it but returned it for note 9, the note 9 battery is awesome and the way it operates is much easier to use.
Just ordered this phone yesterday for the equivalent of US$350. My Note 9 is cracked so I thought I'd switch back to LG and grab a decent pair of headphones to enjoy the DAC.

I have Sprint, no ear buds included which was noted when I ordered. I read someone below that has Verizon and no earbuds. Just a way for them to make more money.

My G4 have extreme retention problems and it can't be fixed. My v30 now also suffers from image burns, and as v30 is oled, that burns are permanent.
I miss my G3!!!
I've had the V10, V20, and currently have the V30. I haven't noticed any image burn.

Triple shot doesn't work in my v40. It's complitely blury...
Just make it 2mm thicker and give us a big battery.........great screen, speakers, cameras, DAC, etc.......i cant use any of it when my phones dead.
Yeah, I don't get why they didn't go bigger on the battery from the G7 especially given the size of this phone. My guess would be to make room for the resonance chamber that creates the "boombox" sound. Personally I'd tell them to go with stereo speakers like on the Galaxy or the Apple phones and put in a bigger battery.
I actually don't get why phones gotta be so thin. They are so hard to hold now. And they are huge anyway, so 2mm is not gonna suddenly make it not fit on your pocket if it does already.

why the battery is not that good compared to others hi end latest phones.
It lasts a full day for me, and I'm a power user. My wife gets about 2 days out of her v40. It's obviously pretty efficient.

Changing the animation scale to 0.5 really makes a huge difference and how Snappy the phone feels

We don't get earbuds in the retail version? Cause didn't get one in mine...
From what I've read you need to either buy an unlocked phone from someplace like Best Buy or you need to buy an international version to get the earbuds. They don't come with phones that are sold by carriers for some strange reason.
