Right. I feel bad for them. I think it's because they don't have a certain thing that differentiates their phones that most people associate with their brand. Google has their cameras, OnePlus has the value, Samsung has their tons of features, etc.
I`m not a type who stick with only one brand, Samsung, or Apple, I like to try other phones but one thing that always keeped me away from LG phones is their skin over Android, good camera setups, hardware is pretty much same on all Android flagship phones, but LG`s UI is just something I don`t want to deal with. What Samsung TouchWizz was back then, that is LG skin now, overloaded with features that nobody use and crappy designed. So I`m sad but not sorry for LG phones, even Samsung learned that they have to refine their UI and get rid of TouchWizz.
Because most of their phone are unreliable. My brother, my sister and I all had LG G5, my sister and mine got a fried motherboard but the one my brother still works perfectly. They're "good" phones but everytime you buy one it's basically the lottery.
To me its one of the most amazing features for music people, and the camera has a myriad of high end options that most phones simply dont have. Also everybody seems to complain about the LG skin but its really something that tends not to bother me. Plus while LG phones are expensive they tend to still engender some form of value when compared to Samsung or Apple. Saving 200 dollars or more for similar feature sets and performance is always a good thing. Whenever I upgrade away from my V20 I will be on to my 3rd LG phone.
@@joshuasterling2144 The G7 (currently) is my 5th LG phone and I find it super hard to leave LG because their features are so good. Sure they don't have "the best" phones according to most people but they are very underrated. The V40 is a PERFECT example. This phone is amazing. Sure the battery could be bigger, the notch is preference, but everything else is outstanding. It appeals to me more and has more features than Stock Android. If LG had faster updates, LG phones would be the go to phone for a lot of people I'm sure
@@Sunsetdriver85 At least you can black bar the notch, without that I would not consider buying, thank god that is a feature...Everything to me is still keeping with the standards that I enjoy now or even improving aspects of the device. Ùntil this moment, the most satisfied I have been with a phone is with the LG G2. I used it for 3 years, then gave it to my father and he still uses it. He also likes it a lot, although the phone is like 5 years old! from a Galaxy S8 user.
Mine too my LG G2 is stil working really well... Its been 5years now since i bought this compare to my samsung s8+.. I only used the phone for 1 year and 2months and the screen was totally damaged
Every other youtubers are picking mistakes of this phone but no one cares about apple Google removing headphone jack and this smartphone keep it and also has hi fi quad dack love this smartphone
I switched to the LG V30 last year from Samsung Notes and haven't looked back. Between the dedicated DAC which is in league with a $1,000 DAP and the wide-angle camera I've been extremely happy. LG is very underrated.
What can LG do to revive their image smartphone wise? 1. Refurbish your software. ur software isn't pleasing to the eye and that's what a lot of people interact with 2. Stop trying to play in tvbhe price range of apple and Samsung. Make $500 phones & let em be awesome Pronto
The LG V40 phone is a huge value compared to the iphone XS max, actually apple should lower the price of the iphone xs to lower than the lg v40, because it is worth much less. and no fast charge, sd card, fingerprint reader, or headphone jack is included at $1100.
@@Tigerex966 I agree with you. But I'm coming from knowing that LG is struggling and they're still trying to play at that high price range. It'll be good if they dropped their prices and after a few years they can rise to the top again. Take a look at Huawei. They started off with mostly cheaper phones, now they're no 3 smartphone makers in the world and they've started playing in the premium range again. The mate 20 pro for one is an example of a new device they're coming up with
I think also is a huge problem is the huge depreciation of LG phones... They release their phones in the same price point as a Samsung or One plus, a few months later it's in the same ball park as budget phones. I just bought a G6 a few days ago for £150. Legendary phone, especially for the price, but why not just start the prices at £300-400 in the first place? These inflated prices are discouraging people from buying day one
3. Get rid of that fucking notch. 4. Advertise more - I don't think I've ever seen an advertisement for an LG phone. 5. Work on their brand image, (which works through advertisements) as the average Joe does not care about phone features but just wants to show off what brand phone they have (cough cough apple)
True, Apple is guilty of price fixing, but because they are so huge, the government does nothing. LG phones go down in price fast, mainly because the media, reviewers, and you tubers, pay a ton more attention to samsung, apple, and google, and one plus. That is a good thing for consumers, who do not mind buying a year or two old used phone, for less than half of the original price, but bad for gaining market share. LG prices are fair and far from inflated, compared to the google pixels' and iPhone's that cost as much, or more and have way way way less hardware features, and expandability, cameras, sd card, fast charger, headphone jack, etc. But better software integration and os skin or lack there of. But since LG are the perpetual underdog, and suck at marketing, and do not have the money to buy store space, train retailers, and enter into major carrier deals, and buy a ton of advertising, or get free advertising like apple, samsung, and google get from the media who stay obsessed on their phones until the new one is released. Underdogs do indeed need to undercut the price of the established leaders, even if their phone offers so much more for $200 off already, although you do get the fast charger, good headphones, 2 year warranty, and 256GB sd card and a $150 gimbal at launch free, making it more like$4-$500 less than the 64GB iPhone XS Max at launch, if you can use those features, or you can sell them both for about $200. I think rather than give those freebies away, LG should have just launched at $799 with a one year warranty, fast charger, and pro headphones..
A Fortnite clickbait TH-camr with a fake verification badge, and if that wasn't good enough they throw in supreme for all the little 6th grade hype beasts. Edit: verification badge isn't fake, TH-cam just changed the look. Doesn't make this guy's channel any less pathetic. 😂
It's crazy how some of these reviewers be like "LG got a phone with 3 cameras, ummmmmm why, that's dumb" becomes sarcastic. "Iphone has a phone with 2 cameras omg, revolutionary", it's expensive but it's iPhone. " Samsung has hmmm I want it I want it I want it" Moral of the story go to the store and do your own reviews.
@Don't Touch Me THAT HASNT BEEN A THING SINCE 2015! Seriously, G4 and V10 had that issue. I think a couple on the G5 in 2016 due to bad third party charges. But that isn't an issue anymore.
Dante van Gemert MKBHD isn't one of those tubers who just review everything they can lay their hands on. He just reviews smartphones (mostly flagship) and sometimes some other sort of interesting tech. So it is pretty much guaranteed that he won't.
Much better buy than the always 64GB iPhone XS Max! .....and $200 less, same oled quality, sd card, headphone jack, 2 year warranty, free gimbal and 256gb sd card at launch, really good headphones included, fast charger included. MQA Master Quality Audio certified by Meridan. Clearer than the iphone XS Max, better resolution and PPI. better wireless sound quality with aptxhd and sony's ldac codecs. Better stereo recording than the iphone at 24 bits and capable of recording loud concerts without distortion. Cheaper to repair. Main cameras are close to equal to the iphones depending on subject, and sometimes better with the manual controls of everything. And than you have the option of wide angle. Resell is not as good, and ios has some advantages, and the iphone is slightly faster in some benchmarks, does not ship with the latest OS, lg will soon release a camera update, maily for the telephot lens.
Same here! 1 year V20 user. Swapping out batteries when running low when I go out has saved me multiple times. Wide angle camera is great. And I only spent $240 for it brand new. Oh and that IR blaster is veeery useful!
@@edgaruriarte yeah, it's sad that they don't put the IR blaster in newer phones nowadays, cuz I'm always wondering what my next phone is going to be. really disappointed that not a single one has this feature anymore. And the removable battery is so important as well (hate power banks, they have failed me multiple times). plus the metal back is better than glass imo
Yeah, I'm still rockin my awesome old V20. I'll eventually have to replace it (prob with this V40) but I'm really gonna miss the IR blaster and removable battery.
I would only consider an LG phone if I can unlock the bootloader. With the V20 and V30 software updates sucked. My v20 just got Oreo last month. And the v30 is still on 8.0. The only thing LG has going for them is the DAC and headphone jack.
You're not missing anything with a locked bootloader. I have a v30 plus and there isn't a single function I feel like I'm missing. I'm used to getting bi-monthly security updates and an os update in spring. LG has always been this way.
Hi! I have been using LG phones for 8 years now. I am very pleased, the LG has a very cool camera and a good build quality. I love LG for that. That they make good discounts on top smartphones, the previous version. Now I use LG v 20 very cool smartphone. Well done LG they are easy to buy at discount last year's tops. This is not an apple or a samsung.
I hope you feel better soon. The LG V40 (ThinQ) look like a really good one. A headphone port and a dac? I wonder who doesn't have a headphone port anymore because they want to sell overpriced bluetooth ear buds. I also wonder which company still doesn't have microSD support. That's pretty crazy how this has 3 cameras on the back, and 2 on the front. That's something _a particular company_ probably won't have on their flagship smartphone til probably like 3 years from now, at which point they'll charge $1500 for the phone. Oh and a Fast Charge adapter is included too? Hm. I wonder _what company_ doesn't include that yet even though their expensive smartphones support it.
OnePlus 6t will be excused for not having a headphone jack because it'll have an in display fingerprint scanner and bigger battery in the space. It'll also have new usb c Bullets for only $20, and they already have the hands down best bang for your buck bluetooth earbuds you can get.
The V20 is the last great smartphone that still has removable battery and doesn't go for the generic glass sandwich design. I'm holding on to my V20 until it turns to dust, even then... I might just get another V20 😂😂
I tweeted to LG asking them not to put a notch on the V40, and they replied saying the voices of their customers would be heard... funny how that went. Lol.
Joshua Foneska You can "hide" the notch, by making the top of the display black. The notch is still there, still annoying, and I'm not the only one complaining. Nobody likes a notch. And when you watch any sort of video, it either shrinks or gets cut out. So that "6.4 inch" display is really only around 6.1 inches.
@@joenodden Doesn't matter bro, we all complained about the notch, doesn't matter Apple runs the market. Anything Apple does, all the other companies follow, even if we don't ask for it.
Same this and same that compared to G7 but when it's a Note 9 compared to S9+ you treat them like completely different phones, in fact Note you say is the best all round phone. These are reasons why LG struggle even with a decent phone because reviewer's like yourself are biased towards certain brands
Pman because aside from the the front side of the design... the note 9 is actually a completely different phone. Better display, way better camera with way more features like super slow motion and dial adjustable aperture for better low light shots and ai auto flaw detection etc way better battery life (4000 man vs 3300mah), more ram, way more storage (128 GB as standard base and up to 512 or even 1 tb. New water cooling system. New dex which can be used with just a wire for a monitor no doc needed. Totally new s pen that isn't only useful for on screen related tasks but also off screen uses like camera clicker or for presentations or music etc amping many other features... And I am not even scratching the surface. So he is not being biased at all in that respect.
This dude is paid and supported by apple, so he just has to be extremely bias. I really dont need a review from him when it comes to LG, because he's always trying to trash it.
@Pman yep i strongly agree. Marq sounded so triggered when he was saying the specs lol. Even if they are same, thats the norm. And relative to the norm, LG's hardware is incredible. Although maybe he just really hates the fact that LG phones have INCREDIBLE hardware but held back by underwhelming software. Camera is an excellent example. The camera hardware is incredibly high end even on the V30, but LG's apk just does nothing of it. Slap google's APK and it literally transforms like Freiza from DBZ. Its just annoying that LG truly designed the perfect android. Their optimization is amongst the best. But their UI design and camera image processing is abysmal. And despite the V40 having a 3300 mah battery, V30 made it evident POLED is more efficient than AMOLED. So not too much to worry about.
I have a love-hate relationship with LG flagships. There is always a lot to love (e.g. three focal lengths, a headphone jack with industry leading sound quality as a result of the Quad-DAC, microphones that are carefully tuned to withstand the tremendous ambient noise of a live show in a room with terrible acoustics and without blowing out or killing the sound, a slightly more Google and stock Android approach to an Android skin then what is available from Samsung, etc). They always stuff it up with things like gimmicks, unfinished features and an absolute lack of finesse or polish in some areas. They would have features simply to have them (such as that triple shot and zooming effect in this video), but they would look half-arsed, as if they would assign one software engineer to it, give him like 2 hours, and when it barely works be like "good enough, let's ship it".
Matthew Jardine yes, much like Samsung, HTC and Sony. What's your point? A phone with more features than others must have all of them work perfectly, otherwise they are bad?
Yup. LG does have good ideas and excellent hardware, but implementation and user experience is sometimes lacking. As much as I hate Apple from a value and cult standpoint, they do make sure the holistic user experience is good and they know how to market their stuff.
+Mihnea Burada Not necessarily bad, just not appealing to me personally. I am a minimalist and prefer to have less gimmicks and more polished, working features. I would rather have one way to do something that is dependable and works every time effortlessly, then have five ways, each work most of the time, but not always and possibly not deliver what I expected. I am a simple man in that sense. I guess I am not their target audience...
Matthew Jardine I get that. I owned two LG made phones in the past (Nexus 4 and G4) and even though I now own an Iphone 6s plus which to my mind is minimalist and dependable in comparison, when I will have to buy my next phone, I will be torn again between LG made phones: either a v-series or a Google Pixel; iPhone is just too expensive for what it gets you and Samsung is too obvious for me
Once the LG price comes down, I may have to replace my notched LG V20, with the Notched LG V40. I hope samsung does not do a notch later, we need at least one un-notched phone, even if that means less resolution and screen area, or a bigger phone, and we know those measurements are false because the notch eats into them.
Never buying anything LG again. I was LG's biggest advocate for the Versace series. The V10 kept shutting down on me and rebooting. The V20 started bootlooping, literally a couple of days after the warranty expired. In fact, they BOTH started acting up immediately after the warranty expired. I told myself after the V10, if the V20 does it, it's on purpose to get the idiots to upgrade. Got me twice, not a third time.
Me before having supper: Yup my TH-cam feed seems pretty normal. Me after returning and checking TH-cam: OH GOD WHAT JUST HAPPENED. I'm just gonna watch the MKBHD video cause that's the best one.
I've got the v30 I got it over the pixel 2xl just because of the 32bit hi-fi quad-dac The wide angle lens and the price difference here in Canada was just a bonus
Sound quality and camera options are what really have kept me on board with the platform. V20 is what I am still using to this day with half my family on a V20 or V30. Whenever I upgrade the new screen and tighter bezels will also be a plus. I am slightly upset with the notch, terrible trend to follow, but at least you can black out the top bezel which then in my mind at least makes the phone purchasable...lol We will see what happens..
I respect this comment because you knew that it had nothing to do with the video but you posted it anyways. You know what you think is important and I respect you for it.
I've had an LG phone (G4, V10 and now V30) for the last 4 years and I'm giving up on these mfers. From boot looping to lack of updates. I can't stand LG anymore.
since v20 massive bootlooping has been fixed (hardware issue), the V30 is not concerned by it so far, so pointing it as an issue now sounds kind of irrational. Lack of updates is not only present in LG gear, & if you really want the newer firmware available you'll always be better of rooting your device & bypass limitations from manufacturers. Whatsoever I'd understand that might not be your preference, & you were probably sharing your "sick & tired" feel (so emotional instead of rational as i mentionned earlier) regarding LG rather than trying to make an affirmation. So don't take it as an attack, just want to give you & other readers wider spectrum of possibilities from these concerns.
LG has average updates. Don't know what the complain is. As if other brands update more often. For that you got only one option, Pixel phones. Also the bootloop issue happened to some users, not to most. And every brand has their own scandals and reasons to change to other brands.
Boot looping can never happen randomly, ever. Unless you try to unlock the bootloader, put a custom ROM and end up messing it up. Android is based on Linux, it doesn't ever randomly lose its shit and go back to boot loop, no matter what brand your phone is. Christ man
Thought about that the 1st times LG faced the competition with wide VS telephoto, & I think it's because the main will be of better quality intrinsecally, & the software adjustments that would be required to make it fluid to use wide & zoom with nice transition , would be even + important than it is with this triple set up, but more crucial, since when you'll want a normal angle, you'll need to crop the wide sensor's capture, which will affect quality anyway, & when you pass to telephoto, it'd be hard not to make it a messy transition... Not going too much into details, it would probably be worse in quality than the competition, with smaller sensor, & cropped. Btw + MP =/= + Quality, not that simple
Yeah i too think that 😍 rather than having wide lens telephoto and normal camera have a slightly telephoto and slightly wide angle two cameras are enough just put good quality on those..24mp each1.4micron
Hi Marques, Ed here from Living Dadly. I was really looking forward to this phone as I heard it could be the content creators dream phone. I agree with Mrwhostheboss as three cameras on phone appears to be the new norm, but does that make it better I wonder? Do you think the three cameras to create a video feature will be any good? Do you think it will get better as the updates roll out? I have high hopes for this feature as it has many creative possibilities for mobile photographers. Is the DAC any better in this phone than the V30? I'm still a hold out for wired headphones, and have heard many good things about LG's DAC system. Great video Marquess, look forward to more coverage of this phone in the coming weeks.
The Quad DAC should be the same as the V30, which is very good. I still use my V20 as portable DAP, even though I have a $500 suffocated DAP. MY DX150 is a more resolving player but the V20 is still very good and MUCH slimmer and Rosie easier to carry around.
RojasTKD7 You still use the V20? Wow, that goes to show how good LG DAC technology really is. Nice to know they are still looking for the audio fans out there.

The selling point is the headphone jack with quad DAC
@@joshuasterling2144 I, too, can't imagine using inferior audio technology on other phones. The LG Quad Dac is just the best in the game right now. As for the Notch, I like that LG gave this feature. What can LG do to revive their image smartphone wise?
1. Refurbish your software. ur software isn't pleasing to the eye and that's what a lot of people interact with
2. Stop trying to play in tvbhe price range of apple and Samsung. Make $500 phones & let em be awesome
Pronto

Uhm. Please rewatch his S9 and note review. He says it's the "same" just like how he says about the V40
Totally agree
You can hide the notch? ayyy

Asking the real q ..
they get the phone beofrehand, but they have a date and time when they can release videos of a new product set by lg

Have you heard of NDA?
I owned two LG made phones in the past (Nexus 4 and G4) and even though I now own an Iphone 6s plus which to my mind is minimalist and dependable in comparison, when I will have to buy my next phone, I will be torn again between LG made phones: either a v-series or a Google Pixel; iPhone is just too expensive for what it gets you and Samsung is too obvious for me
Would only buy it if it had a different design and stock android
Probably
Alejandro Sandoval so the pixel xl
And a bigger battery
I'm pretty sure most likely their will be an Android one version of the LG V40
LG skin works best for the phone trust me
Once the LG price comes down, I may have to replace my notched LG V20, with the Notched LG V40.
I hope samsung does not do a notch later, we need at least one un-notched phone, even if that means less resolution and screen area, or a bigger phone, and we know those measurements are false because the notch eats into them.
Notched lg v20 wtf
dessnom I guess the second screen on the V20 is technically a notch
S10 out
I have the v35. No notch. Same internals as the v40 except for the cameras
Unpopular Popular Opinion same happened to my g4
My G5 started doing that. Changing the battery fixed it.

The subtle old-school Apple Computer faded in the background. Nice touch!

I got a v30 last year. Utterly underrated phone and I've had none of the screen issues that people complained about.
I would say that I feel bad for not having the most advanced v-series phone but I have the V 35 and I'll take the no notch
I've had an LG phone (G4, V10 and now V30) for the last 4 years and I'm giving up on these mfers. From boot looping to lack of updates. I can't stand LG anymore.
Glad I never faced boot looping with my G5 or V30 tbh
since v20 massive bootlooping has been fixed (hardware issue), the V30 is not concerned by it so far, so pointing it as an issue now sounds kind of irrational.
The boot loop was terrible on the g4. Had two die on me that way
LG has average updates.
Christ man
Why dont companies just have 1 telephoto lens and 1 wide angle range both around 20mp pretty much all you need...
Because telephoto lens and wide angle lens all have to work with the main camera lens.
Yeah i too think that 😍 rather than having wide lens telephoto and normal camera have a slightly telephoto and slightly wide angle two cameras are enough just put good quality on those..24mp each1.4micron
Doesn't MI A2 have that setup? 16mp+25mp or am I wrong
5:59 I love how focused you both were 😂
Finally a reviewer that doesn't make a face when taking a selfie!
Cameras were too expensive so they didn’t develop the software
"content creator" like you're really gonna use a phone to film and edit your videos
The Quad DAC should be the same as the V30, which is very good. I still use my V20 as portable DAP, even though I have a $500 suffocated DAP. MY DX150 is a more resolving player but the V20 is still very good and MUCH slimmer and Rosie easier to carry around.

You still use the V20? Wow, that goes to show how good LG DAC technology really is. Nice to know they are still looking for the audio fans out there.
Got my v40 today and I'm diggin it ♥
Are these guys that comment before me bots or real human waiting to be the first to comment ?
iphone users, we don't hate you. you are our brothers and sisters and we can't just sit and watch a Trillion dollar company continue to rip you off your hard earn money. our hating motive is transparent. we wish Apple to deliver to you the worth of what you pay for because you deserve it. One love brothers.. Peace ✌️

I’m satisfied with my iPhone Xs Max. The note 9 doesn’t do enough for me to switch.
slowly..
I love my iPhone and MacBook Pro. Extremely satisfied. Apple users tend to be the most satisfied consumers.
Why'd you turn this on the ipeople though? completely irrevelent.
Nice I don’t like the shiny back but with a case it will be fine think I’ll be buying it !
Every glass back phone has a shiny back
I would wait for the Mate 20 Pro
I would wait for the galaxy s10, LG phones are horrible
I like being able to take a nice photo with my phone. But if I want something great, nothing compares to DSLR. So if photos are your focus, cheaper to buy a camera than a phone nowadays.
Yeah you can get an entry level DSLR or mirrorless (Which has the same sensor as the higher end) and a midrange phone for the same price.
I do understand that you can't fit a DSLR in your pocket and carry it daily but 99% of people are using their camera for instagram where no one can tell the difference.I uploaded pictures to my insta story the other day with a 50 dollar piece of sh*t phone and someone asked were they taken with my canon mirrorless haha
I've always had an LG phone, mainly because they are very durable and have solid batteries and software. I've had my G6 for 2 1/2 years now and it still keeps up! The only reason I am looking to switch is because I would like a better quality camera and I like that the camera is the V40's strong point, however, I am still holding out for the G8.
you are not alone in this, I am waiting for the release of G8 as well, its seems like a full package (especially because of that battery) with some fun features 😎
Why The Verge always uploads at nearly the exact same time as MKBHD ?

ITS A CONSPIRACY. MKBHD WORKS FOR VERGE SECRETLY
Who cares
🤔🤔And of course ppl still gonna complain about LG 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
they suck
FEVER MUZIK aint goin pay 1000 for this
Why not? It's free to complain

Your companion is so well behaved man im so impressed. Great video as always!!! Always looking forward.
I still feel the triple camera setup is much better on the p20 pro
Just wait for the Mate 20 pro, the new beast is arriving on 16 Oct, with improved tripe camera system (hopefully a wide angle lens is coming) and more AI tweaks. Huawei is pushing themselves very hard, they atleast kept innovating and trying something new and different everytime, and not just iterate with small improvements and refinements.
@@rajsatraroxor9603 I don't care about wide angle , I wold rather buy a wide and macro lens from Amazon ,I like how how Huawei make use of there triple camera . yes even I'm waiting for mate 20 pro. It going to be my next phone
