    Before I watched this episode I was thinking, "What if Simon inadvertently killed the serial killer when he took out the guard in self defense". I'm going to be sad when I run out of episodes to watch. Your story has been the high point in my day for a few weeks now.

    OMG I'm totally convinced it's Huxley right now. Fits the profile - works at several of the soup houses, runs a tight ship and would have extraordinary knowledge of the surroundings and operations, probably has a grudge against Lord Manfrey, and is known to have a quick temper. My guess is he was targeting beggars that were taking advantage of the kitchens, trying to get double portions or something. Somehow was discovered by Manfrey's son and had to dispatch him. Poor Simon just happened to get caught in the crossfire. This is amazing! Of course I'd probably roll and extraordinary NO if I asked the dice, but it's headcannon anyway, at least for now.

      I think the new shirt should say, "I shoot better than you."
      (and maybe "Hand me the crossbow" on the front) because that was my FAVORITE moment from the story so far!

    I am at 27:59 and based upon Huxley's hair-trigger temper and the proximity to the kitchen, he seems a prime suspect. Coupled with the multitude of ways the beggars were killed, it seems just what a logical polymath would do. I will resume viewing and see how this plays out. Nice Ominous music in the background, by the way. I love the production values.

    Hey, I left a comment a while ago about Murder Mystery, and I'm FINALLY getting to this episode. I'm enjoying the mystery so far - heck I'm loving the whole story so far.
    It's amazing how complex the plot became, even though it's literally being written as you go. I plan on giving SoloRPG a go myself, since this looks like so much fun.
    I still think the Mystery Matrix is cool... but I said my piece there. My ONLY regret with this series is that I only found it recently, so I'm still catching up! So cool.

    Your series is the first to actually show me that Solo RPG can be not only fun, but also legitimately unexpected! Sometimes I have trouble coming up with ideas that make sense, you somehow manage to find something quickly that seems to fit perfectly and also gives room for interesting branching. Would love if you could go into a little bit of your thought process on it. =D
    Keep up the good work, looking forward for the next episode!

    The investigation portion instantly reminded me that though we love our good lads, they aren't exactly the cheeriest company to meet.
    They all have either low social skills and/or direct penalties due to circumstances.

    I know some people prefer the Dungeon crawler solo RPGs. But it's good to see how much fun more storyteller heavy RPGs can be as well. Taking the randomness of what the dice offer up, and weaving that into a coherent little narrative can be such a fun thing to do. 👍
    Waiting for the dice to reveal the killer was Simon all along, and Trevor having to explain that one away. 😂

    You are inspiring as always. When I solo roleplay, if something doesn't make sense to me I change and pick another hint. You take it and ... You get a logical polimath and a coarse priest and you manage to build a story with such unexpected proposals from the dice. Really inspiring.

    Love the Map intro! I actually have both Wonderdraft and Dungeondraft. Worth EVERY penny!
    I have used Dungeondraft more because I didn't need much "major mapping" as in "regions/continents" and stuff for this current campaign. That being said, it's going to be much more in use during my next one! Very cool to actually see someone getting their map on your channel!
    These things help bring the story to life even more!
    I'm so divided right now... Part of me is very sad because I'm about to reach the ending of this story, but the other part is so excited about what's coming in the next ones! I'm very attached to these guys already. As my wife says when we reach the end of a cool series: "I'm already feeling like an orphan".

    Apologies for the double post, but something else occurred to me (4 days and counting, Trevor ...). Was Arne known to Ysabel and her men? If so and she made it back alive, Mannfred may have charged Arne with aiding and abetting a fugitive. Perhaps Arne is not as safe to wander around town as he thinks he is? There may also be proclamations posted with drawings of them all, including Edbert. Just a thought.

    I need to send another Thank You!, not just for making a great show but for highlighting so many cool tools and creators. I bought the Mythic GME and UNE a few weeks ago after watching a few of your episodes. While I have not yet had the time to get a Solo game going I did use both books to flesh out NPCs and some plot threads in my ongoing D&D 5e game last weekend. I had a great time using the random words as inspiration for things happening in my little world.

    Thanks so much for such a cool example to refer to for solo investigations! I know it's something that comes up a lot in the solo rpg Discord I'm in, so I'll try to remember to link to this video next time it does! (And maybe actually give a solo investigation a shot soon. I have been hankering for it.)
    Also:
    [You] (Detail the information gleaned from the investigation.)[Me] Sounds like it's someone who works for the soup kitchen. Likely one of the Lord's men.
    [You] Is it someone who works for the Lord? I don't think so - that would be too easy!
    [Me] But... that's what the evidence is pointing to, but fair enough! I don't mind a twist!
    [Dice] No twist.
    [Me] Aw. Well, that's what I think too.(later)
    [You] Does he catch up to the guy before he talks to the guard?[Me] No, because that would be too easy.[Dice] I agree.[Me] Heck yeah, dice. You and me. Why don't you agree with me when *I* play?[Dice] Because that would be too easy.

    Another thought - Manfred's son is the guard that Simon accidentally killed...

  • @Raul_MM
    @Raul_MM ปีที่แล้ว

    I assume his recently acquired phobia of long haired women was partly to blame for Arne's initial failed attempts to collect information about the serial killer, on top of his considerably unpleasant physical appearance. I imagine he had a tough time, considering he probably had to avoid lots of potential female sources of information. The brothel where Edbert obtained the first clue would've been utterly terrifying for the guy lol
    Also, the fact that this campaign has maps now is so cool! The Keighton map reminds me of Dwarf Fortress town street layouts, really neat.

    Another great episode. It occurred to me that early in the episode, you kept referring to the killer as "he." Hopefully, you will leave the gender to chance; because what I love about this show is the randomness that surprises us as much as it surprises you. Also, you should hire someone to turn these stories into a series of novels. You've got at least two books worth of material already. I'd buy them.

  • @luisguilherme45

  • @Mr_Crumbly
    @Mr_Crumbly 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I can't wait a fortnight! What am I going to do? A thought occurs to me. Were all the murdered beggars patrons of the same soup kitchen? If they patronised different ones the killer would probably be someone who had knowledge of the various locales and possibly visited them all regularly - but WHY did he or she stop killing for a year? Too exciting for words!

  • @matth9619
    @matth9619 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    28:58 - one of Manfred's men, eh? Perhaps his name is Quinn?

  • @AL-id3hb
    @AL-id3hb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Wait! There's no specific killing method or more detailed victim profile of the beggars killed. That could indicate a level of improvisation in the "who" and "how" by the murderer. Additionally, the murders were brutally executed. What contradicts this is the calculated elegance of "where" and "when." For half of the information to be so disparate from the other to a polar extreme, it could very well mean we aren't looking for *a* serial killer, but rather a team. The brains sets it up while the brawn carries out the kill once a victim ends up wandering into the trap. Something else that stands out to me is that once a scapegoat was identified (Simon), the murders stopped. Why? Because there was no *need* to keep killing.
    How elegant is it to plan the murder of a Noble's son as part of a string of killings? The Mastermind leverages someone's weakness against them as a way to force them to start killing a few beggars. This establishes a "serial killer." So when the Noble's son is murdered, the true motive as well as the fact he was the only intended target are obfuscated by the very circumstances under which he was killed. A few more killings cement this idea in the minds of the council until finally a perfect storm of circumstances landed an outsider in the right place with guards who have a volatile mindset. Not to mention Manfred's failure to bring this scapegoat to justice further undermines his lordship and seat on the council.
    Given the close-quarter nature of the murders, the victims were probably familiar with the assailant. That also supports the success rate of the murders. Additionally, one of the best ways to hide something is in plain sight. A priest meets both of these assertions. Furthermore, a personality capable of brutality seems consistent with course or unkept appearance. Huxley certainly sounds intelligent enough to hatch such a scheme and volatile enough to desire reprisal of such extreme nature.
    This gives us good narrative direction with just enough plausible deniability to resist railroading. It might also compliment some kind of timer or Chaos Factor cap set on the thread. The party will need to investigate carefully and/or quickly to restore Simon's name, else it becomes a permanent drawback for him.
    Most excellent work, sir! Your content is magnificent!

    watching for the 1st time here in 2022.
    at about 16:14 now, and I have a theory to share before a continue on to find out if it's right or not. I get the inkling that this killer knows manfred and maybe even works for him. he's trying to sabotage manfred for some reason and even targeted and killed his son. or the killer could have been sent by someone (maybe another lord) to sabotage manfred.
    will continue watching now and see how this turns out. *finger crossed*

    Great looking map.
    Now its a mystery what has me on the edge of my seat. I may have to steal this part of the plot, as I'm used to running mysteries in Call of Cthulhu and figuring out how to lay out the clues from this plot in such a way that my players would find them should give me a bit of practice before I try something completely original, which I'd really like to try my hand at because my youngest daughter loves mysteries. She's reading every Nancy Drew she can get her hands on right now, and I'm trying to get her to read my Sherlock Holmes collection. She did just watch the recent remake of Murder on the Orient Express, though, and enjoyed it. Hmmm.... I think I have the Peter Cushing Hound of the Baskervilles somewhere...
    Anyway, off track, great job as usual. I may have to stay up late and watch the next episode, too.

    Watching this late (July 2020) and I think Simon should have a split personality and he is actually the killer since he has been gone for a year and there has been no killings during that time. He is searching for himself and starts to have flashbacks of small memories of the killings.
