as a belgian I got to say that there is only one king I can say I am proud of and that was Albert 1, who together with his wife fought in ww1 alongside his troops
It's a sign of a good leader when they're willing to battle with those who they lead. Rather than having an ego trip and sending out their soldiers as victims because they have a bruised ego. Albert 1 was a very good king/leader based on this song, because he was willing to fight with his soldiers. Rather than sitting back and controlling them like a game of chess.
This song is about Belgium at the beginning of WWI, they flooded the river to stop the Germans from conquering the entirety of Belgium. The lyrics of this song eerily fall in line with what is happening in Ukraine.
Belgium flooded Yser in 1914. Ukraine flooded Irpin in 2022

King Albert was one hell of a king, standing alongside his men on the frontlines, kings that like haven't been seen since the Medieval times.
Damn good man and a damn fine king.

Song overall is about battle at Yser and flooding that river on command of Belgians king Albert I, who in that way wanted to prevent German troops from capturing all that was left from Belgium. Battle was the titular end of the Race to the Sea, which is a name given to the constant maneuver war that was happening on the Western front in 1914, with both Entente and German forces trying to outflank one another, constantly marching further north to the North Sea.
This song is one that gets lodged in your brain and you will find yourself absentmindedly mumbling the lyrics and doing a little headbang days after last hearing it.
I will admit that this song gets stuck in my head a lot and I do find myself humming the song all day.

“The Race to the Sea” is the name given to a series of flanking maneuvers performed by both British-Franco forces and the Imperial German Army on the opposing force, from 17th September to 19th October 1914 during the First World War.
Though the song is about the flooding of the Belgian coast, which happened during the “Race to the Sea.”

I liked this one, too. Have you ever reacted to any Majestica? Tommy Johannsen, the lead guitarist, sings lead for it. Their video to Above the Sky is insane. I had to check it live cause that is an incredibly fast bass line, but sure enough, yea they definitely playing it. Easier to hear it on official video though. Just a thought. Good to see y'all! XOXO

Glad you all are back…this song is super catchy (as are most of Sabaton’s songs). This battle was quite important for Belgium to remain a sovereign nation and the king at the time was fighting along side his army to try and save what they could of their country. That’s what the last part “kings and soldiers fighting shoulder to shoulder “ referencing. Thanks for making me go and revisit your song now on my autographed CD and count it out 😂. Also, does Bassist have an alter ego like ‘Twon, Taco Time, etc. 🤘

Beanie of Justice is it's common name. It has a mystery name that unlocks it's powers to see into the dressing rooms of metal bands. But you can't put that on TH-cam. Anyway it's super cool to see the band now at full force.

Sabaton waisted the instruments in the video. A set of instruments due for retirement, according to Joakim, probably destined to be video shooting instruments from now on. Cool but what a privilege to be able to do that with such fine instruments!
